The Krishna Boutique came as somewhat of a surprise in the middle of Cleveland. The area is not…read moreexactly what I would describe as exotic, but here I found a store that stocks clothing inspired by traditional Indian designs. Not that all the items on offer are Sari ripoffs, but the beautiful materials used are similar. The best way to describe the Krishna Boutique is as a less mainstream version of Tree of Life. Mostly they stock dresses in many different styles, but they also have jewellery. It's a lovely little store, well worth a look if you enjoy wearing clothes made of gorgeous fabric, which I definitely do. The man working at the time of my visit, who I assume is the owner, was also very friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. A very pleasant little shopping experience. The store has recently relocated so it has proven difficult to get a phone number and therefore accurate opening hours. The opening hours listed are an estimate based on the hours of surrounding businesses.

Some of it is twice the price it is in the Valley markets. Maybe the rent is really high, but other businesses along Bloomfield Street seem to be able to keep a cap on their prices. I'm a shopper and it's not a good sign that to date I've never bought one thing from this store, when I have from practically every other shop in the street.

But I don't think so. I really can't express how positive my experience here was. Everything about this shop is adorable; the design, the vintage clothes, the atmosphere and the locally made jewellery. This is no ordinary secondhand clothing store. Everything has been carefully chosen and only the best items make the cut, so the store is not cluttered, but tastefully arranged with perfect clothes to space ratio. Not only are the clothes here unique thanks to their preloved status, but they are all in excellent condition. While the clothes are lovely, it is not that alone which makes this store what it is. The design compliments the shop perfectly; giving customers the feeling they are exploring a charming boutique. Perhaps my favourite thing about this shop was the locally made jewellery. I love supporting local artists and buying pieces like this not only ensures you do so, but also guarantees that you won't end up looking exactly the same as every girl that shops at mass-produced jewellery stores. Finally, when I visited, not only was the sales assistant extremely friendly, kind and a poor judge of age (to my immense pleasure), he was also ironing. I found this an enchanting touch. How often do you see staff in a shop ironing? It added such a welcoming feel to the store, and also assured me the people here really care about and take pride in their work.

They have handwritten protest articles written up on the door about stopping the palm oil industry. HANDWRITTEN! The owners are people who really do care about the state of our world. Their collection is humble, but immaculate. The threads they sell are all secondhand, in perfect condition, and I guess you would say that most of them come under the category of 'hippie clothes'. They've got all sorts of excellent bits and bobs around the place- there's some reused tetra pak bags there for sale, and some beautiful reused wine goblets. My favourite item was the lampshade made from natural fibres. This store is one of it's kind in the Cleveland area. It provides people with an avenue to have all the nice things they want without costing you or the environment too much.

We once got a 24 serve pavlova for $5 that wasn't anywhere near its used by date and was absolutely delicious. Some of the stock is getting close to the best before date but that just means you are going to get an even better special. Think Sarah lea cheesecakes 2 for $5. Peters ice creams were 3 for $5 when I was there last. So many different things every time I've been. Btw it's not just golden circle products. One of The best parts of this place is the fact they put bulk prices as well as individual and most times buying the whole box is slightly cheaper than individual price. Win win in my books, if you know you like the product you can get a great deal on a whole carton.

This is like the DFO of all food places. Golden Circle products are always in, most of the time Cadbury is in stock as well. As for everything else, do not count on it. This is the place you should come before you go to Coles/ Woolies to grab some cheap bargains, then fill in the gaps with what you couldn't snatch up at Golden Circle. This place is crazy good. Today I snagged a 'Marvellous Creations' block of Cadbury chocolate for $2.. usually you'd pay $6-8 per slab!! How great. You can get deli style meats, cake mix, drinks, pasta, rice, frozen foods, house cleaning products and i literally mean hundreds more items. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE A MISS FOR THAT REASON THOUGH. I am yelling because it is SO GOOD. If you want to save $$ (Students i'm talking to you) it is so worth the drive. NB. you need some gold coinage for a trolley and you need to spend over $10 to use eftpos. Also. A man with muscles should come with you to carry the slabs of ridiculously cheap drinks. (I got 24 cans of sparkling cranberry juice for $6) W.O.W
