Meeting Carlos re-affirmed my belief in the basic goodness of humanity. No joke. Due to a crazy turn of events in my personal life, I had a rental I needed re-painted, like, YESTERDAY. I'd seen Carlos' reviews on Yelp before, but I'd always thought a dude that good would be booked out for months in advance. So I never bothered reaching out, figuring it was a job I could tackle on my own. Ah, the folly of youth. Finally, drowning in desperation as the deadline loomed in just a few days, I called him. Here's how the awesomeness unfolded: 1. Thought I'd get a voicemail: he picked up right away. 2. He tells me he's in the middle of a kitchen remodel ... then asks me what I need done. (Yes! Doesn't shut me down right away!) 3. Thinking out loud, he realizes he can fit me in to his schedule without affecting the schedule on the remodel. (Not going to lie: I was super impressed how important it was to him to stay on schedule. Even when it's not YOUR job, that speaks volumes for the guy.) 4. Meets me RIGHT AWAY to check out the scope of my job. The dude does not play games. 5. I have an initial proposal via text within the hour, and a fully-developed proposal in my inbox by that evening. Number 5 is what truly made me a convert. As a single chick, different craftspeople I've had come out for various jobs here in Kenosha have been REALLY BAD with their proposals. Almost without fail, they've either turned in ... 1. half-assed proposals. (I had one dude give me a "proposal" for flooring by pulling a number out of the air and writing it on a business card. Then, telling me he'd need 1/2 up front , he actually wrote 1/2 the amount twice on the card ... as if worried my tiny womanly brain would struggle with the concept of dividing by two.) 2. STUPIDLY high quotes. (Another painter in the area -- we'll call him "William" -- quoted me over $3k for this small 3-bedroom mid-century home. I've had paint jobs done before; I know what the price range should be. This was over $2k MORE than Carlos' offer. And the job was OFF-SEASON. Simple. And did I mention, SMALL?) Carlos could have turned me away at multiple times. Instead, the guy was punctual, knowledgeable, and industrious to a fault. He CRUSHED the job. Thanks to him, this place shined up like a new penny. He did it on time and at the proposed cost. AND he ended up helping me with a couple adhoc tasks that came up at the end. He didn't have to AT ALL ... but I think he recognized the need, and bent over backwards to help a person out. This dude is good people. He's the real deal: YOU WANT TO WORK WITH THIS GUY. read more

He offers suggestions to keep within budget, but is not pushy or out of line. I've been putting off getting my sump pump fixed, in part because I didn't know who I could trust to do the work. I read Carlos' awesome reviews, and contacted him through Yelp. He contacted me back right away, and came out to assess yesterday. He was thorough, showed me what I would need, and gave me options as far as which pump to buy. Because he was concerned about the rain starting again today, he took time out of his busy schedule to come back this morning and install the sump pump. I found Carlos here on Yelp and couldn't be happier. I have a rental property in Wisconsin and have gone through several different handymen to fix issues around the house. Carlos B. was the third handyman I contacted about tackling a list of jobs I needed done, including repairing and painting a fairly large deck, sanding and painting the front porch, installing new shutters and outside light fixtures, and repairing a tear in a gutter. Because I had been disappointed with the first two handymen I spoke with, I wasn't overly hopeful when I contacted Carlos. However, I was immediately relieved when Carlos promptly returned my initial text to set up a time for an estimate. Upon meeting Carlos, I was impressed with his professionalism and courtesy, thoroughness and expansive knowledge base. Without being pushy, Carlos offered input and suggestions to the projects I was looking to have done. An example of this was when Carlos asked if I wanted to have a tree stump removed that was enclosed in the deck. When the deck was put in, it was built around a very large tree that was eventually cut down leaving the unsightly, rotting stump. I had never even considered the possibility that the stump could be removed until Carlos suggested the idea. He took out the stump and added planks to the deck floor covering the hole where the stump had been. The result is a beautiful, clean looking deck! Even though much of the work I needed done involved tedious hand painting on deck trellis and railing and on porch spindles, Carlos' took the time necessary to achieve an outstanding result. Carlos replaced our sump pump last year. And recently we noticed water dripping from our water heater. Over the phone he advised us how to drain it. Then came out 2 days later and replaced it. It was a complicated job because our water heater connection is behind our furnace and next to the crawl space. Carlos figured out how to get the old one out and the new one in.
