The Inselhopf is maybe the best Helles lager I've had in Germany and I have tried quite a few. We had the Brägele mit Münsterkäse überbacken which was delicious although the münster cheese was a little bit more pungent than I am used to getting back in the states. A little bit closer in flavor to Swiss cheese but very good. We also had the quarck with herbs which, if you've never had it, is close to a cross between ricotta and sour cream or Greek yogurt but with onion mixed in. It came with bread and onions and it was excellent as an appetizer. I also had the fried Nürnberger bratwurst which was on special and it was some of the best Nürnberger sausages that I've had on this trip to Germany. Highly recommend this place!

This came as a recommendation from my coworkers as a great place for beer and food. In my short…read moretime in Freiburg, I stopped by twice by myself for a large beer and some quick food. I can't judge the food all that much since I only ordered a weisswurst and pretzel but it seemed okay. Compared to some other places, the prices were quite reasonable. It gets crowded but you can often find a spot at the bar. If you want to sit in the beer garden, you can swing by the main restaurant to get pretzels. The beer is light, crisp and refreshing. It was slightly sweet and citrusy for a great hydrating drink. I'd definitely stop by again. Cash only.

This was exactly what we were looking for so we made the journey to the restaurant. When we arrived the place was pretty busy. We were seated at a community table with another couple. This is very traditional in Germany to share a table with other people. They have a traditional German menu and they also have an English menu and it looked like maybe a menu in French and Spanish as well. I always love when restaurants do this as they help us out a lot. Martin's Brau brews their own beer! We decided to get the beer of the month which was an Oktoberfest beer. It was really good and had great malt flavors. We did the half liter which was plenty. The inside is a traditional german restaurant. The food we ordered was amazing. I got the Schnitzel! It came with 2 giant pieces and it was pork and was amazing. It came with 1 side and 1 sauce. For my side I got, the spatzel which were small potato dumplings and the mushroom sauce. The mushroom sauce was gravy with mushrooms and it was so good. I poured the mushroom sauce over everything and it made for the perfect bite. I also asked for a side of sauerkraut and they gave me a giant bowl of it. I think they only charged me like 3 Euros for the sauerkraut and it was amazing! This was one of the best German meals I have ever had in my life. It was so flavorful and rich. We ended the night with a giant piece of Black Forest Cake. It was a great way to end our meal! I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for traditional German experience in Freiburg. It was great, the beer was fresh, food tasted amazing, and overall it was a great dining location.
