They sent my hip pocket wifi unit as expected on the day I reserved so I had it without stressing before my trip. The unit initially wasn't working but a phone call put me in contact with like "my own personal agent" who emailed me an instruction sheet on how to reset it. This was a little complicated but as soon as I figured it out, unit worked perfectly the rest of the trip. The agent followed up like we were conversating in a normal chat via email to see I got it working. The unit is very effective for multiple users to connect devices to and was light for travel. Key thing was to make sure you charged it daily. The return process was super easy as well and they provide everything, mostly. You just have to print the return label at the end. read more

We traveled through Europe with a hippo modem for a summer vacation for 20 days and this is my honest review. I rented a modem with unlimited traffic and I am aware that they would limit the bandwidth after 10GB per day. Both my wife's and my phone have google photo which syncs automatically all the photos and videos and my son is also has a Nintendo switch and plays online games and watch youtube videos. Our usage is usually between 10-20GB per day but during our vacation I received multiple emails from Hippo stating that we have used more than 10GB per day and our bandwidth was throttled significantly. When they limit your bandwidth it means you are basically cannot do anything, no streaming, no gaming and even google maps had difficulty give us routes to drive. I cannot say this is not a good deal because it is still cheaper than buying the roaming data package. But be aware of the limitation and maybe choose a cheaper package that fits your usage and avoid paying much for the unlimited package. read more

Used device for hiking trip in Italian Dolomites. Device was sent out for delivery well ahead of my arrival, which I thought was odd, but hotel refused acceptance initially. Rep from Hippocket contacted me and hotel to get issue resolved and my device was waiting for me when I arrived. Device came packaged with everything I needed, including emergency SIM (which I did not use). Device worked well, held charge and even worked on many trails we hiked. Return was super easy with provided packaging. I just had to drop in a post box at the airport (pro tip: look up location of post box location at airport before you go!). Overall I was very happy with this service and it was more economical than turning on phone for international plan and allowed multiple users. I know SIMs and hotspotting are more popular these days, but I love the convenience this device provides. I also make it a point to turn off my calling capabilities when away from work. Ordered this for a year in hopes of receiving a reliable connection in Sweden, didn't like it from the start. Unreliable connection and bad customer service, always had to switch sims to stay connected and had to switch them as they pleased no direction was given prior to ! All those google reviews are fake only trust yelp, the company are making it impossible to review them after you've had their service! I've decided to keep the device I was suppose to sent back since they caused me so many inconveniences! Anyways for 95£ a month so bad internet it's not worth it, but a sim for your phone 3 times less the cost and use that instead ! Just saying ! read more

July 2023 We booked a 10 day unlimited data plan with Hippocket Wifi when we traveled to France. It worked fine for the first couple of days after we arrived in Lyon, France. The third day we received an email alerting us that we have exceeded our data limit of 8gb in 24 hours. That's when we have learned may surprises with hippocket wifi 1. The unlimited data plan is NOT what they advertise. Read the fine prints hidden in FAQ section. 2. You are only allowed up to 8gb in 24 hours. Not unlimited as advertised. 3. They use SFR network which is the cheapest and slowest in Europe. Most of the time, you do not get the speed they advertise. If you exceed the 8 gb daily limit, they will slow down your internet speed to a crawl or stop the signal all together. We were not able to use the device starting day 4 of our 10 day plan. The device either did not connect to our phones and when we were able to connect, the speed we tested was about 240 kbps. On our fourth day, we have to travel by car from Lyon to Aix en Provence using rental car GPS to navigate. No pocket wifi, not working. Due to the problems with internet, we had to plan our trip ahead of time by using hotel wifi, save the trip with Google Map to use offline. Just imagine that you are in a new town or country and you have no internet to navigate your ways around. I contacted hippocket wifi via emails, after several emails back and forth, Hipppocket wifi revealed to me that they have another plan and we need to increase our daily to 20gb a day if we need the unit to work as expected. And they want to charge an additional 25 euros for the next 5 days on top of 100 euros we already paid for the unlimited plan. We decided not to go with it since we felt that we are being ripped off by this company. Please read the fine prints when you sign up with Hippocket wifi. Stay away from this company if you want a smooth travel without internet hassles. read more

Process was easy. Wifi unit gets delivered to wherever you want. You land in your destination country, turn it on, log in like any Wifi network. Signal was great in France/Switzerland/Germany. Great little device. Kept us connected even going over the Pyrenees mountains into Spain. The only time we lost connection was when tropical storm Kirk knocked out the whole southern region of France. Highly recommend this company. I purchased this service for 18 days of travel. It did not hold a charge so that in the afternoon it was not working (so no GPS or Uber use on my phone). Sometimes I could not get on at all. It worked best when I was at a hotel, but I could have used the hotel wifi instead. When I reported the problem and asked to use the emergency backup SIM cards that were included, I was asked to troubleshoot the problems with a page full of questions. I had no time or patience to correspond with Hippopocket and so was not allowed to use the emergency SIM cards. All in all a big waste of money. Don't bother. read more

This was and continues to be a terrible experience! I traveled to France (pick-up location), Spain and Italy from the United States. All was well in France, I had no issues (was there for literally only 19-hours). Service did not transfer over when I arrived in Spain and I literally spent 1/2 a day of my vacation re-booting the device for them as they walked me through it! By the time I got to Italy my iPhone was glitching like crazy! I could no longer use my camera as it would crash as did most other apps. Internet service was spotty, there were a couple of whole days it did not work at all. I have been back in the States for a couple of weeks and now I need to get a new phone. My phone had ZERO issues before and now nothing works properly. I am not a political person, but this device was Huawei and I absolutely believe my phone has been hacked as it continues to have problems. I can only attribute it to using this wifi exclusively as did not have these issues before. Beware. read more
