The bartenders were friendly and when there is an open bar, that always adds a sense of happiness. The view was nice overlooking western Brunswick, Ohio. Although there was a trailer, a tractor, and other homestead items at the bottom of the hill in the back, which was clearly visible. If you're looking for a place to get hitched and have a reception immediately following your wedding ceremony, this could be a decent option. There was a fair amount of parking available and a paved lot. I wouldn't call the venue glamorous, but it is definitely functional.

We had croissant sandwiches with a variety of fillings, along with tortilla wraps and tomato soup. We also had a variety of salads (tossed, macaroni and potato). The lodge is a medium sized venue that fits just under 100 people. There is an outside grassy area that is slightly hilly but can be perfect for stepping out for a summer event or a summer wedding. It isn't a fancy place but it does the job well. I believe the venue provided the food and the wedding party brought their own music and entertainment. The food was a nice dinner of a starter course (salad, I think), a main dish (meats), and a dessert (I forgot what was served for dessert). Drinks were provided to from non-alcoholic to alcoholic. The entire staff made the planning process so easy and were always available to answer our questions. They truly captured our vision and made our day feel incredibly special. The highlight of the space is the spacious Great Hall, which can accommodate up to 400 guests (according to the venue website) --ideal for large gatherings like wedding receptions, fundraisers, or corporate gatherings. I attended fish fry at this location hosted by the Cleveland Field Kitchen that was hosted in the Great Hall. The Great Hall is very spacious, has a stage, and remnants of basketball hoop. It is very minimalistic but very spacious. I did not interact with any of the venue's staff while there (only unaffiliated event organizers) so can't comment about their service. There are other amenities that I've noticed while onsite including a kitchen, nature/walking trails, two playgrounds, and plenty of parking. Whether you're planning a business meeting, youth activity, bridal shower, or private party, the Family Life Center seems to be a good destination. I would recommend this venue to anyone interested in a scenic hideaway.

Since the moment we contacted Vell's through the days after our event, this venue did everything they possibly could to accommodate us. They worked with us on dates, they gave us so many menu options, they kept us up-to-date of all the restrictions going on in the state (we were planning from states away.) We changed a few things on them and they could not have been nicer about it. The food was amazing and the venue was beautiful. All our guests had everything they needed and everything went off without a hitch. Not only was it an amazing and beautiful event but it was also very affordable. We told them our budget and guest list and they gave us an option that worked for us. Also, everything was super clean and we have had no problems with the virus since our event. The only thing that really made me happy that the bar actually took credit cards! Like they won all the awards because of that one. There are so many reception halls that only accept cash when it comes to the bars- but when I could purchase my drink with my card- I was one happy woman! A late September wedding and it was really chilly on the water, but the views are quite lovely. The holiday event was really nice and drew a large crowd. We didn't wait to see Santa, but we did enjoy some cookies and punch and we also got to spend time with the sweet animals there for the nativity. There were some school choir performances that we heard a little bit of. I will say that both times I've been here, the bathrooms were either closed off or very hard to find. Where are they? Does anyone know? No one had an answer either time I was there. So as long as you don't have to go potty, it is a great event venue. They also had a couple food trucks there during the recent event and the chili was really good. They had some interesting baked potato options too. My son and I enjoyed visiting the Tudor House and I thought the December event was well orchestrated.

Not being very familiar with the Portage Lakes area, I had no idea what to expect. It's tucked away in a residential area, so not some places you would stumble across unless you knew it was there. I thought my GPS was leading me astray as I pulled up to the cul-de-sac out front, before seeing the signs. It was an outdoor event so I didn't get the full experience of touring the inside of the house, but I can't say enough good things about the yard, the views, the setup, the food. The house/mansion backs up to the lake and the view is spectacular. There's ample parking but the overflow lot is a bit of a walk. My only criticism would be that the drive leading up to the house is very dark and narrow so it could use more lighting for night time events. This is an awesome place for an outdoor wedding if you're willing to chance the weather in northeast Ohio!

They have a large selection of house wines as well as other brands. The server was kind but didn't seem very knowledgeable about the wine. All the dishes are enormous and meant to be shared. We shared the goat cheese with blackberry preserves and a Genoa flatbread and even with the three of us, we had a lot to take home with us. The duo and the flatbread were both incredible. The flatbread is actually two whole flatbreads and the dip was the size of a dinner plate. They were kind to get us an extra loaf of bread to go with the dip because we ran out. Their kitchen closed at 8 even though they were open until 9. That was about annoying because we considered ordering an additional dish but worked out fine since the dishes were so large.
