Everyone is so kind and welcoming. With a great diversity of people from all types of backgrounds. We all accept each other even if we are different. The worship is incredible and the service times make it easy for most people. I have been to so many churches in OC but none stress discipleship like Harvest. For those who get involved, you will be looked after, cared for, challenged to grow in your faith. The focus is prayer and discipleship. Spiritual growth comes from having close relationships with others like you who want to grow. Each person helps each other through love and fellowship. One of the other great elements of Harvest is our senior pastor Greg Laurie. Every week, we get the best messages. It is a blessing to be a part of this church.

Everything felt well organized and planned. The people taking me in took a minute to ask my name and connect. In the teen area check-in wasn't so organized- but there was a new system. The 3 "greeters" (all teens) were neither warm nor welcoming, but I was told everyone inside was quite welcoming. The teen message was reported back as one of the best ever before heard. I found the crowd to look pretty mixed and people looked like the average OC people that I encounter just about everywhere else around. The message was incredible and the guests message was equally inspirational. The thing that stood out to me was the message imprinted on me in a way that I don't feel happens other places. I didn't take notes, and yet I found myself able to recall the message well and access it through the week. While I'd heard the name Greg Laurie before, I didn't know much beyond that. I left hungry to know more about pastor Greg and his ministry, and constantly seeking out more of his messages. Parking wasn't the most fun I've ever had though. Save extra time to park.

    1) Don't attend this church if you have a physical disability unless you enjoy being treated like a…read more10 year old child. There is a 30's female that was a volunteer and attended this church for longer than I did, that has a physical disability so she can't drive to church, other than that she's perfectly able, normal, has a full time job, etc. However, once "Hospitality Pastor" Suzan started working there, she started treating this young woman like she had a mental disability or like a 10-year old child. I stood there many times when Suzan would literally come up to her and scold her for being at church past a certain time, as if she were mentally deficient and a child. Suzan also got multiple pastors/leaders to start treating her this same way: Pastors Kit, Ben, Paul, Josh, etc. among others. I can say it was very demeaning and it made me upset just witnessing it. I stood up for her many times, but finally they asked the woman to stop coming to the church, because she was disobedient for standing up for herself and not leaving when they demanded she leave. I also had a discussion later where Pastor Kit literally rolled his eyes and said "come on" when I said "this Woman is in her 30's" as if I should know that he sees her as a 10 year old. RH should consider itself lucky they weren't sued for ADA/discriminatory practices over this matter. There was another man in a wheelchair who had been attending for over a year that stopped coming after Suzan started working there, although I can't say it had anything to do with her, but the timing is a strange coincidence. 2) About 6 months ago, a new "Hospitality Pastor" named Suzan was hired at the church. I put the name in quotes because she is the queen of inhospitality. She is the leader over all the volunteers that greet people at the door and do other tasks. Since she started at least 70% of the volunteers have stopped volunteering or even stopped attending the church altogether (many were longtime members/volunteers of the church). I've heard from dozens of volunteers how overbearing and mean-spirited she is. She always is walking around with a smile on her face while simultaneously saying mean and disparaging remarks about how the volunteers are "doing their jobs wrong". I personally heard many of her comments while standing near the food table or talking to volunteers. 3) The staff and payrolls are extremely bloated. This is a medium sized church of about 2500 I would guess yet they have over 25 people on staff about 15 pastors with a payroll of $2.5 million or $100K a person, but that's the average. Financials are available on their website. I would guess their pastors are making $!50-$200K easily. Pastors work 20 hours a week: 10-3 M-Th (probably an hour lunch) + attend a Sunday service. It's a pretty good gig but doesn't convey the heart of being good stewards over God's resources. While it isn't a sin to collect a big salary, it makes me question the motives behind certain people being on staff at the church....is this a calling from God on their lives or a calling from their personal wallets? Would the still be working here for a more reasonable salary? I've been to similar sized churches on Orange County that had like 4 pastors and an office manager. With this massive staff + salaries you think they would at least be able to have one person available to answer phones (see 4). 4) Church leadership cares about the almighty dollar Much more than its people. Easy to prove this. Try calling the church and you'll get an automated menu with no way to reach a real human being at the church. Just for fun I tried all nine menu options. Guess which option was the only one that rang an actual line? Yup you guessed it "Giving". Everything else goes to a generic voice box that you'll be lucky to get a call back on. I did finally get a callback after leaving two messages, 4 days later, when I finally needed to call the church for the first time in years. You could literally be on the verge of ending your life and calling RH to talk to a "caring pastor" and you'll have to leave a voicemail and hope they call back before you end things. If you have a donation, don't worry someone will be there to offer full assistance. 5) Worship is really good but don't go to this church if you want strong Biblical teaching. It is a very doctrine light church. You'll get the milk every week but meat is not on the menu here. 6) No pastoral accountability. Pastor Kit was behaving un-biblically and I asked to have another pastor get involved and come over and join our conversation that night. Kit refused. There were other pastors there that night so why would you refuse to have another pastor offer his advice on whether this was Biblical or not? He then tells me to leave the church and call him later that week. Finally he calls me 10 days later and after being unable to come to terms, I also asked for the senior pastor call me and Kit refused. Left messages for Glenn and nothing.

We've been here three times since last year, and I can't believe I never checked in before this. Our first visit was during the 2017 NAMM show. We were fortunate to actually attend NAMM and found that an artist that we'd recently discovered (Antoine Dufour) was playing a set during the convention. We bought our tickets and drove from Anaheim to Irvine, to this little church in a strip mall. The space is welcoming and open, which you'd probably expect from a space that's normally a church. The thing that I loved about being here is that the pastor opened up the sets by explaining why they decided to do this: they have a passion for the arts and want to contribute to artists' successes as much as possible. I can get behind that! They have a good sound system, and no matter the setup (we've been to shows that have just rows of chairs lined up, and to a show where they had small couches mixed in with the chairs), you'll experience decent audio quality. I signed up for the upcoming shows mailing list, and it's interesting to see the acts they have coming through. Like I said, we've been three times, and I keep an eye on their calendar just to make sure we're not missing anybody. Definitely a great venue, and one we're always happy to visit.
