He loves to go outdoors in the natural play area. Recently, he showed off his ability to add "really big numbers" and how he's now sounding out words. CMC lives up to everything Montessori should be--hands on, self-guided, and collaborative. Now, as a 5th grader we have transferred him to St. Joe's and we are sending my younger son (3) and step daughter (7th). I can't say enough about the teachers, the staff and the community of parents. They have welcomed us with open arms and we look forward to many years ahead. In his initial weeks at summer camp my son came home exited to learn for the first time in his life! I, like an idiot, assumed that Columbus being a far larger metro area than where we moved from, would have many Montessori options. Mistake. So, my research begins, and I call St. Joseph Montessori with high hopes. I explain that I have two children I am looking to enroll, one whom is Autistic and a little slow to learn some things but has always been able to keep up. They are happy to meet with us so I schedule a visit. We toured the school, met with some of the teachers, and discussed some of the differences between the Montessori we came from and their program. They even met with the kids one on one and talked about how sweet they both were. Now, let's keep in mind some things - this school is a) a MONTESSORI...founded on principles of Maria Montessori who famously taught those who were cast off by society. Her methods were meant for EVERYONE. And b) this Montessori is affiliated with a CHURCH. "Love thy neighbor...well, not THOSE neighbors..." After I explain to those I had met with that my son is Autistic, the vibe changes. My child, who 5 minutes ago was "so sweet and funny...really creative!" was now getting pity eyes and the stare. Then, the decision... "Well, now that I look at our enrollment, we are already committed to too many kids in your [Autistic] son's grade and sometimes make exceptions but in this case we just wouldn't be able to accommodate him. (Interesting...you had room when I called to set up the appointment...hmm, that's a mystery) But, we would be happy to take your typical son." I think y'all need to read that Bible again. While you're at it, look up Maria Montessori and what she stood for - THE REASON YOU EXIST. I'll say a prayer for you.

The student-teacher ratio is perfect, and the Montessori approach to learning has been wonderful. Our eldest entered Kindergarten confident and ready. We will be so sad when our second child finishes this school year at MCH, but she is well prepared to move on to Kindergarten! The teachers are also all extremely caring and all receive Montessori training, all of which have contributed to our son's growth and his love for attending school every day. We only have experience with the toddler program so far, but the same seems to be true for the infant and elementary programs as well.

To be clear ahead, my poor experience was with the administrative staff and not with an enrolled…read morechild. I scheduled a tour online and called to confirm relevant information. The staff member who I spoke to on the phone stated (and insisted) that the school does not require vaccines "because that is not permitted by law" and that simply an e-mail would be enough of a waiver, not even a dictor's notice. This is false in many instances. First, according to Guidepost Montessori Parent Handbook, "Guidepost requires that all enrolled students be vaccinated in accordance with the recommended state schedule.". Lastly, private daycares are allowed by law to enforce vaccine requirements and even be more atruct than government requirements, and a quick google search could have prevented this staff member from spreading misinformation. It is very concerning that staff will misinform potential customers and also clearly state the unit does not follow the franchise's handbook.

They do have some teacher turnover, but unfortunately that happens at every single daycare. When it does happen, it's been communicated to us and a replacement is there almost immediately. I feel very comfortable leaving our little girl there. She really enjoys it and is starting to really bond with her teachers. I've never doubted the level of care or compassion each of the teachers has displayed. They've helped me along as a first time mom on what sorts of things to bring in and when. They don't bat an eye when I've asked silly questions or when we have forgotten spare clothes for the second day. I honestly can't say enough nice things about them.
