I have been a patient of Dr. Emily Wang for about a year and I have grown extremely comfortable…read morewith her because she is an amazing doctor. I could not recommend her enough. But I was supposed to have a trigger point injection appointment with her on July 30. Write from the beginning When I walked into the appointment in the Reception was blaring music to the point where I couldn't hear her and she could not hear me took about 10 minutes for me to check in And when I finally checked in another 10 minutes for someone to come and get me to take me back originally, I thought it was just a nurse to go over my vitals and what not she then proceeded to tell me that she would be doing my injections with another doctor observing her. I expressed multiple times that my appointment was supposed to be with Dr. Emily Wang and the response I kept getting was well I'm gonna be doing the injections not her. I then proceeded to tell this person that I had questions for Dr. Wang and that my appointment was supposed to be with her. They told me to hold on they would double check. They then came in and said well we're gonna start with the injections and if Dr. Wang has time she will come in and speak with you. I was very uncomfortable with this scenario, but needed the trigger point injections before I leave for a trip because I usually have muscle spasms on airplanes. I proceeded to show the injector where I usually get the injections and it was just overall an awful experience. It seemed like it was her first time doing these type of injections. It also didn't help that she seemed to have either long nails or acrylic nails that dug in my back when she pinched my skin, I ended up having nail marks on my back (and still do) Where she would squeeze the skin for the injections. It also took longer than normal, and she was not injecting the spots where I Had shown her. I understand Beth Israel is merging with Leahy, but that still does not give them the right to not inform patients that they will not be seeing their regular doctor whom they booked the appointment specifically with. I did not want to see someone new nor did I want someone new doing these injections me and Dr. Wang have built a relationship where I feel extremely comfortable with her then to experience this gave me extreme anxiety and panic attacks. After the injections, I asked again if I could speak to Dr. Wang, which the Doctor Who is observing the injector said oh let me see if she's off another call because she's seeing other patients. In reality, I was one of the patients she was supposed to be seeing. When she did come in the room, it was not just her and eye the injector ended up coming in the room as well where I did not feel comfortable speaking or discussing what I wanted to discuss with Dr. Wang. The whole situation was very un nerve-racking and disappointing. I was never informed that I wasn't going to be seen by Dr. Wang prior to my appointment. I can't stress enough that I booked this appointment specifically with Dr. Wang and nobody else so I don't know why I as a patient got moved around to people who don't know my case and who I have never seen nor talk to you before. They should not have happened. I should have had my appointment with Dr. Wang in the first place.

Two years ago, I was mysteriously felled by joint pain that left me unable to do more than walk…read moreslowly. I went to several doctors, and after several blood tests the results came up nil. "We don't know what's wrong with you. Let's take yet another blood test that isn't covered by your health insurance!" Why I didn't go to acupuncture immediately as soon as any and all major chronic illnesses were ruled out, I don't know. But finally I did, to the very capable and easy going Dr. Hou. He is a very lovely and kind man, with a gentle demeanor that almost belies his vast expertise. He is a medical doctor of both western and eastern persuasions, teaches at Harvard Medical School, and has a fervent fondness for his home town of Shanghai, hence the name. I was in chronic, terrible pain for two month's straight, and after two weeks of lying on Dr Hou's table with needles sticking out of my forehead, ears, and shins, I started to feel better. Within a month I was back to my old self. I received a student discount, with each session being $45, back in 2006. The rates may have gone up, but this seemed reasonable to me, particularly since I'd spent $500 on blood tests that produced no results whatsover. Also, he had very, very flexible hours - he can meet you very late (like 7pm) or very early, whatever you need. I would highly recommend Dr. Hou. Check out his website for full details on all the ways he can help you.

I've been going to Shanghai Acupuncture for the past 3 weeks and I really like this place…read more I was being treated at Dana Faber cancer institute and my oncologist suggested I visit the Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies to make an appointment to start acupuncture treatment. When I did, I was informed that the first available appointment for a consultation was 3 weeks away. The receptionist gave me the names of the 3 acupuncturists who practice there and suggested I google them to find out where else they practice in case I could get to see one of them sooner So this is how I came across Dr Hou whos practice is close to Coolidge Corner, across a Green Line T stop. Being new to acupuncture I wanted someone who has specialized in treating cancer patients, and the endorsement doesn't get much better than being employed by a cancer clinic. I started my treatment 3 weeks ago and I'm close to finishing my first course. In my experience Dr Hou is always courteous and efficient and goes out of his way to accommodate your schedule and needs. I can't say yet whether the treatment is working or yet but I've decided I'm going to continue going and have a second treatment course The only problem is that you have to pay out of pocket and get your medical insurance to reimburse you. I haven't had any money back yet so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will but to be fair, this would have been the case had I been treated at Dana Faber. Some medical insurance providers don't have many acupuncturists on their lists I haven't tried his herbal services so can't comment on that

However, during my appointment and after listing all my symptoms and how gynecologists have told my I have suspected endometriosis, I was told by Kristine that I don't have that during muscle testing. I was shocked at such a bold statement ONLY because it went against the "I am not a doctor" statement I was told. I convinced myself this woman had a strong intuition until my chronic pelvic pain did not subside from the tinctures I was given. Which ... they weren't supposed to. It was only something western medicine could handle. Here I am two weeks post op with all endometriosis excised from my bladder and deep from my pelvis. So, Yes. I did have that. But the point of this review is that I was told I didn't have something..... when I absolutely did. It did not align with the " I am not a doctor" which I was told twice. If you are not a doctor, then how come I am being told I don't have something? Everything was very speedy and rushed... but I am assuming that is all because routine is the same for every person. Listen to symptoms, muscle test, and send home with 2-3 tinctures/ vitamins. Waiting for the western medicine and natural path world to align and become one instead of being so separate from each other!!! Hopefully one day. I see reviews that this practice is a scam, I think it is in some ways, but for some people (especially when their symptoms are mental, body is low in vitamins, contains parasites, etc. ) it could really help but it seems to be an expensive guessing game that is for sure.

I have to agree with another recent reviewer that this is a scam. The entire process was strange from start to finish in terms of what she does to check the body energy. None of it makes sense and you can watch her video on Yelp to see what I mean. I have chronic gastritis and came in for help with that. What she found and the drops given did not help me. Actually a very natural remedy did recently, but nothing that was done during this appointment or following. I am not sure how what she does helps people with digestive issues and I don't think she should be advertising that she can help with that. I also don't think she should be ripping people off with such a high initial price point when there are no guarantees and what she does is pretty hard to believe as legitimate. I really wanted this to work but I warn people to not go and use your best judgement. As desperate as you might be, this is too good sounding to be true and effective.

I'm honestly not someone who usually writes reviews, but my experience with Marisa has been so…read moreimpactful that I felt like I had to share. I drive over an hour each way to see her and it's been so worth it. I originally went to see Marisa for extreme anxiety and ongoing sleep issues, after trying what felt like every modality out there: somatic exercises, journaling, therapy, BIT, meditation, breath-work...you name it. While many of those helped in their own ways, nothing truly moved the needle for me the way hypnoacupuncture with Marisa has. From my very first session, there was an obvious shift. Even the people around me noticed. After that first session, the tension in my shoulders decreased, and the only way I can describe it is that everything (physically & mentally) felt like it had been taken down a notch. Since working with her, my sleep has completely transformed. I went from having an extremely hard time falling asleep and waking up almost every hour, to now pretty much sleeping through the night. If I do wake up, I can fall back asleep easily, and I'm even dreaming a lot which I take as a sign I'm finally getting deep, restful sleep. I've seen such drastic improvements that I genuinely feel like I have a new baseline. I feel so much more in control of my anxiety now and honestly like a completely different person than I was just a few months ago. It's been truly life changing. I honestly wish I could see her weekly. The closest way I can describe how you feel leaving a session is like you just had a massage; you're so relaxed, grounded, and at ease. Marisa has truly touched my life. She is genuinely an angel. She listens, she cares deeply, and she is incredibly dedicated to her clients. If she doesn't have an answer right away, she always follows up, whether by email or the next time you see her, which says so much about the level of thought and attention she gives. I don't feel comfortable around many people, but there's something about her energy that is so light and reassuring. She creates such a safe, welcoming environment, and it makes all the difference. I'm so grateful to have found her and truly can't recommend her enough.
