The fist thing that struck me was how big it is for saying that I never knew it was there. A huge open golf course area (which is not your usual fancy pants golf club - dog walkers were very welcome), a children's play area and a beautiful wooded area. There is also a cafe but we didn't try that out. The paths are well kept and there are many dog waste bins. I didn't spot any dog mess on the ground - clearly it's a park for well behaved dog owners!! I was also struck by how well kept it is. The people who care for the park obviously take great pride in the park. There are some lovely sculptures and boards showing the history of the park. Absolutely loved it and it's now on our regular dog walking rota! I've deducted one point because the car park is tiny - we visited in February and it was very full so I imagine that in summer it's a nightmare. It did look as though there would be decent street parking around re area though.

When compared to public courses the greens here are ludicrously fast and take a fair bit of getting used to - this is surely down to the extra care and attention these greens get. They are fast! In addition to the pace of the greens the holes are really well protected by bunkers, making this a tricky course for the first time visitor. As this is a private club there are certain rules of dress and etiquette that may catch you out. I turned up once in white socks - this is a no-no. I also once made the mistake of walking into the bar wearing a hat, and then making a phone call - both of these are also frowned upon. Thankfully these were the extent of my transgressions and I was invited back by my fee-paying friends. If you get the chance to play here then I would jump at it. It's a different ball game to the public courses and, if you're like me and have no intention of ever joining a club, this is a rare chance to see what the inside of a golf club looks like.

The service is to a high standard, though at times I felt a little uncomfortable as the waitresses were more like servants. The staff are friendly, a little too friendly at times from the perspective of someone who doesn't know them - but they know others with me very well and are like old friends to them, which to me just looks so very clique. It is 'faux-posh' in that they insist on smart dress (strictly no jeans I'm told, though almost all aged under 35 - very few - were wearing jeans). The reality however is revealed by the fact they have a big screen TV with sport on, and no doorman or valet, which any actually upmarket place has. It is good to maintain a high standard and good quality, but I just find the strict dress code here to be patronising.
