This is most definitely not closed!!
This is one of the most unique tours in Philadelphia. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
The tour lasted for almost an hour. I don't remember much about the original owner who built the house except that he made a lot of money importing madeira. The next owner was a Dr. Physick who was a most fascinating person. The family seemed to intermarry with all the wealthiest Philadelphians and be involved in all the key activities of the day. Why he is not better known is a mystery. He was the father of modern American surgery. He was a clever inventor and invented a number of tools that are still used in surgery today with minor modifications. In a addition he was a friend of Ben Franklin and they along with a third person spent a lot of time together performing experiments. Physick was instrumental in a lot of Franklin's electricity experiments. There were many other contributions to the early US but there were too many to remember.
Besides the fascinating owners the house is impressive. It is the only free standing house in Philadelphia from what we were told. It is beautifully furnished and many are original to the house. There is so much history to this house that more people should see it, but YELP saying it is closed is a problem.
The tour guide turned out to be a decendant of the Physick family and was very proud of the house and the family. The only downside was that he spoke so fast it was hard to follow at times. He was willing to repeat if you missed something or elaborate on a topic.
The phone number is 215-925-7866. It is listed in the tourist pamphlet Beyond the Bell about places to see near the Liberty Bell as the Physick House Museum and Garden read more
