They really do have a great shop here - a pretty large gift shop featuring all things rocks and gems and then a sluice area for anyone wanting to do some "mining." If you've done the gem mining thing with your kids before, the difference here will be you just get so many more gems and rocks for your buck here, given that NC is a gem-rich state. The kids had a great time and came away with some pretty solid treasures with their ultimate buckets (2 for $50) and we all enjoyed the very circuitous and windy road in and out. You will pass up several waterfalls on the way out here and they do offer a waterfall map at Jackson Hole as well, so if that is your thing, plan accordingly as there will be a few that you will want to stop at if its just adults in your group. All in all, a fun outing with the family and just another fun way to see these enchanting woods.

John, the employee at the sluice, was incredibly helpful, approachable and friendly. The owners, Tom and Ginger, are warm and welcoming. The restroom at the shop is clean and tidy. They have an amazing variety of jewelry and cut stones in the Our party, including my 76 yr old mother and two boys (11 and 13), had a fabulous time. Everyone found more than one ruby. Several of them were really good sizes! We've been to lots of local mining venues. This was by far the best. The cost for the day was $40 for adults, $20 for kids and under 6 yr old are free. We are already planning to go back and take friends!

The experience consisted of digging up two buckets of dirt from the pile that was recently hauled from their Smokey Mountain mine, and using the provided equipment to sift through little by little. The DIY dig touts "non-salted" buckets, which was important to me, giving us as close to a real boots on the ground mining experience that a family of all ages can expect. The pictured peach moonstone was my favorite find of the day, and I also took home some really unique and reasonably priced pieces from the gift shop. I've done a few "dig & sifts" across the states and I was especially impressed with the staff helping to identify the material found and packaging up and labeling for later. The extra few minutes spent was so appreciated. Special shout out to Miss. Nancy for making my family's visit extra special!

The selection is diverse and interesting. The gentleman behind the counter was friendly and answered several of my questions without hesitation. He seemed to have been at this for a long time! The prices are fair for what you get. They have an interesting mix of crystals and cut stones. I could have spent a lot more than I did. It's not too close to me, but if I was ever driving that way back to Asheville I would definitely stop again.

I was so excited to do a little mining to remember our trip by before heading home. I picked the largest bucket, which was $50. Small was $15 & Medium was $30 if I'm not mistaken. We found many large pieces but, no rose quartz. As pictured, you can see some of our findings. Even if you're not there to mine, the store has a variety of gifts to look see. There are some handmade items to find as well.

We stopped here over the weekend to buy a Christmas tree from their lot at the rear of the store…read more The ladies that work in the store are very nice and helpful, however the young man selling the trees was the rudest person I have every encountered in a retail environment. He basically told us he didn't care if we bought a tree or not and that he was completely over loading trees onto the top of SUVs. As a side note, the trees were brown in the center and had not been trimmed into shape throughout the summer. We took our business elsewhere and found a gorgeous fir at the OSAGE farm a few mile down the road. I hope in the future the nice ladies in the store will find a nicer person to sell their Christmas trees.

Was greeted by Jen. I was overwhelmed with all the beautiful things, but my eye went straight to the singing bowls. She was knowledgeable and patient as showed me how to use them and the different vibrations they made. I walked out with one. This will always remind me of my trip to the Highlands area.
