I started going to Higher Health Chiropractic about a year ago, and after approximately nine months, I ultimately decided to stop going. As someone who suffers from chronic migraines 15-25 days a month, I was initially hesitant to try another chiropractor, but I was hopeful that I might finally find some relief.
The staff was always incredibly kind and welcoming, and I want to acknowledge that. Unfortunately, my experience with the effectiveness of the treatment was very disappointing.
During my initial visits, I was told I would start by coming in three times a week and gradually decrease to twice a week and eventually once a week. There were posters throughout the office explaining their approach, and I trusted the process. However, after three months, I had experienced absolutely no relief. In fact, during those first three months, I ended up in the ER for migraine medication for the first time in a couple of years.
Whenever I expressed frustration about not improving, the response was generally that things sometimes get worse before they get better and that I needed to make sure I was doing my exercises. The problem was that I hadn't even been clearly informed about which exercises I was supposed to be doing. When stretches were eventually recommended, I developed a migraine the very first time I tried them. I explained that I couldn't tolerate them and asked whether there was an alternative, but I never felt that my concerns were adequately addressed.
Around six months in, I was frustrated enough to consider stopping. I was reminded that if I stopped coming, I could lose the progress I had made. That made me hesitant to leave, even though I wasn't experiencing any improvement. I continued going because I was afraid of losing something I had invested so much time and money into, despite never actually feeling better.
There was also an adjustment involving my upper neck that resulted in excruciating pain. As someone already dealing with frequent, debilitating migraines, this was an extremely upsetting experience. I struggled to understand why a treatment intended to help me was leaving me in that much pain.
By around month nine, I had reached my limit. I was paying a significant amount of money out of pocket and still had no relief. I even gave the office another 30 days to see if anything would change. During conversations about my lack of progress, I felt that responsibility was often shifted back onto me, including comments suggesting that certain areas should have been adjusted earlier but hadn't been because I had experienced pain or migraines with previous adjustments. From my perspective, that was frustrating. I was looking to the providers for guidance and a treatment approach that took my symptoms and reactions seriously.
I understand that chiropractic care may not work for everyone, and I never expected a miracle cure. However, after nine months of consistent appointments, I had hoped to see some improvement or, at the very least, have a more meaningful discussion about whether this approach was appropriate for me.
The staff members were very nice, but kindness alone doesn't make a treatment effective. My biggest frustration was the repeated reassurance that things would eventually get better when I had experienced no relief after months of treatment.
Ultimately, I decided to stop going. As someone living with chronic migraines, I know how desperate you can become to find something that helps. I would encourage anyone considering treatment to ask questions, understand the recommended plan, discuss what happens if symptoms worsen, and regularly evaluate whether the treatment is actually helping them.
Unfortunately, based on my personal experience, Higher Health Chiropractic was not the solution I had hoped it would be. read more
