If I wanted to I could prop my feet up and not have to leave the boat. The couches are so comfortable! The captain is a great guy and apart of the new management. Worst charter trip I've ever taken…read more Last week I chartered the VI (Southern Sports Fishing Inc) with nine of my friends. I should have known something was up when the captain arrived at the dock 2 1/2 hours late. After we boarded the boat and unpacked, the captain told us he was having engine trouble and had burned 20 gallons or oil in a two hour period. We were scheduled to leave biloxi at midnight but was delayed again because the engines wouldn't start. When one of the crew members realized the reason the engine wouldn't start was because the boat was in drive and not in neutral, we were finally underway. Trying to remain optimistic, I kept reminding myself that as long as we made it to the Chandeleur islands safe that we would spend very little time on the ship and three full days out on the water catching fish. Day 1: Arrived to the Chandeleur islands an hour and a half late and missed the morning bite due to engine problems. Lost another hour and a half due to engine problems on three of the skiffs. Unfortunately had to tow one of our buddy's skiffs behind us to go wade fishing so he and his son wouldn't be stuck on the mothership. By lunch, only two out of six skiffs were operable but still had fuel issues on the two. During lunch the ice machine on board broke. The second half of the day we fished near the mothership due to skiff engine problems. Day 2: Was told by the captain that the crew stayed up all night working on the skiffs and that everything was working great. By 2pm we found out from a neighboring boat (because our skiffs were not supplied with radios) that three skiffs were stranded and broken down. The captain took off in a skiff to try and fix the three stranded vessels. While the captain was gone, the owner tried to relocate the mothership from new harbor island down to the pelican so we would be closer to our friends that were broken down. At this point, we had issues getting the anchor up bc of problems with the anchor winch. After the anchor was up, a component in the engine room broke and started flooding the engine room. After the captain returned back to the mothership, he informed us all to constantly pump the fuel lines on the skiffs while driving or "jiggle" the fuel tanks to keep them running (you can't make this stuff up). By 5pm, all but two skiffs needed to be towed back to the mothership. We told the captain we were very unhappy and demanded to cut our trip a day short and go home. The captain apologized and eventually agreed to give each of us a partial (1/3) refund. After arriving back at dock, the captain went back on his original offer and only refunded a fraction of his original offer. This captain has no business being in charge of a boat, crew or guests. We never once felt safe on this trip and should have been given full refunds. DO NOT use Southern Sports Fishing.

The "Captain" told us how bad he was feeling when we arrived at the dock. It took an hour to get engines fired up, almost made it to the head pin on the way out but had to turn back for fuel. Captain took us to throw one baited line and a jigged line at three different day markers then we trolled rusty old spoons for remainder of trip. 2 jacks and some Spanish mackerel later we returned to dock. No bottom fishing on wrecks, no site of a oil or gas rig just tourist bull crap boat ride.

Once we got there we boarded the boat and fueled up. We left about 7 ;15 am. It took us 1 hours to get to a point were we could fish. Captain Brian and Deckhand Jesse talked like we were going to catch some fish. Long story short, we fished for thirty minutes in 10ft of water and it started to sprinkle. Captain said we got bad weather coming and we need to get in. Now there was at least 4 other boats in the same area, that didn't leave. So we headed in and made it back in about 20 minutes. Once we dock he says we owe him $650 of the $850. Now we were on the water for 3 hours top on a 8 hour trip. I told the captain that was not right but he insisted we pay $650. after talking to Donna i Believe, we ended up paying $550, which was still a bit high. I will never use them again. I fish down there at least once a year and this was my worst experience with a charter company. After coming back home I posted it on my Facebook page and a Korean gentleman said he also had a bad experience with this charter. Fish on Charters is terrible. if any questions I can be reached at 601-906-7084. Can provide numbers for people in my group and also the Korean gentlemans group.

Within a call and a couple texts Sabrina had everything broken down for us in easy to understand terms even included some shipping charges for a ballpark weight of fish to North Dakota. I felt this was over and above. The pricing was clear as to number of hours 4-6-8 number of people in increments and the ability to mix and match the numbers to communicate with our group to decide what we wanted to do. They even allowed us to change number of people the morning of the charter do to an illness. And to our surprise I took the information she originally gave me plugged in the numbers length of trip final number of people and total cost and it matched perfectly the we paid. The mix and match numbers from weeks ahead matched with no penalty. We limited out on shark had to release a red snapper (out of season) and had plenty of Spanish mackerel and jack fish (hope I got that right) They only asked for a small deposit which was handled with a credit card and final balance we had the option of paying cash or credit card with a savings for cash. The fish were cleaned filleted bagged frozen and labeled as part of the deck hands pay which was an unsecured amount based on the tip if any he also did all the baiting and casting of rods unsnagging any of our miscues and netting and storing the fish on ice. He definitely deserved much more than a suggestion of 20% tip based on the charter price. I hope we exceeded the 20% as he certainly deserved it. They also had tee shirts and tank tops available at a reasonable price which I'm still wearing my tank top but it's certainly covered with layers considering the temperature here in North Dakota now.
