Reliable, efficient, polite, not too busy. Easy in and out. Near to everything. Needs fuel overflow containers available.

    Harbor Island West Marina

    Harbor Island West Marina

To the Karen at Harbor Island West Marina:…read more My husband walked me to the showers at Harbor Island West Marina. After I finished showering, I was drying off my shower shoes at the first sink in the women's restroom. A Caucasian woman suddenly walked in, chose the sink right next to me--despite several others being available--and aggressively threw her keys or badge near my area. I found it odd, but tried to brush it off. I walked outside and told my husband, who had been patiently waiting for me. She followed shortly after and walked toward the dock area. Before we left, my husband went to the restroom, and I waited. As we approached the parking lot, I noticed her walking toward me again. Before she even spoke, I had a feeling I knew exactly what was coming--like something straight out of the "Karen" TikToks and Instagram videos I've seen. She rudely and aggressively asked, "Do you have a slip here?" I was caught off guard--shocked this was actually happening. She asked again, as if I didn't hear her the first time. I turned to my husband, unsure of our slip number, and before we could even explain, she escalated her tone and said, "Well, I thought it was weird that you were taking a shower and he was waiting for you. Then he goes into the bathroom, and now you're leaving. I've never seen you here before." My husband (a retired police officer), was waiting for me because there was only one badge for entry between us, so it was not weird at all. We told her that yes--we do have a slip. My husband has actually been staying here for nearly three weeks. She continued to insist that our presence was "weird," and said, "I watch out for this place." As a Filipino and person of color, I have never experienced racism so directly. The way she treated us--her assumptions, accusations, and tone--made me feel deeply disgusted and unwelcome. If this is how she treats strangers who don't look like her, I can only imagine how she treats others.

Very strange of the City of San Diego Permitting Process not to require this simple but necessary requirement for tenants not getting a break from the slip fees, the extended stay fees (this Marina's current word salad for Live Aboard Fees), other fees fees fees, etc during the renovation.

What a neat lil treat to enjoy gorgeous views and quick bites!…read moreWe walked our dog from the front part of The Dana and around the hotel- never knew Dana Landing was just around the bend! Our visit here, came a few days later! Dana Landing is such a popular spot for many recreational users and folks just passing by (like us!). Great selection of sandwiches (breakfast style available too). Pre made sammies are available for those in a rush! Just check the refrigerator. We walked up to the deli counter to place our order. I asked staff if they could sell sliced turkey by the pound bc we have our dog with us. One of the gals said, sure. But, one of the fellas just wrapped up a huge chunk of it in plastic wrap and said, no worries. I was surprised by the kind gesture and had to pay it back. I placed a $5 bill in the tip jar that sits on the counter. I ordered the: #4 The Skipper Italiano. $13 Italian Roll, salami, mortadella, capicolla, provolone cheese, pepperonis, Italian dressing, w/ the works (lettuce/ tomatoes/ onions). I opted for sourdough bread instead. Totally forgot to have it toasted. But, every bite- the sourdough was soft. I love mortadella so much and there's no skimping on deli meats and cheeses. I figured Kettle's Honey Dijon chips are best paired with my sandwich. Pay for your order at the cashier counter. Many tables facing the marina. We didn't wanna over stuff our doggie with all the deli meats- so we gifted another person walking by with his rucksack and beautiful dog the rest of the meat. No shortage of parking and bathrooms are across the launch ramp.

We've been coming since we were kids and have the best memories of visiting the pugs that used to roam the store and watch us while we ate. I love the #1 sandwich on rye bread and it's consistently good. They also have a great selection of chips and drinks. The staff is always super friendly and helpful too. A bonus is getting to see the nearby sea-lions!

MARINA LOVER (4 stars)…read more Crossing off another Marina I've sailed out from! My list continues to grow: - Glorietta Bay Marina (Coronado) - Embarcadero Marina (downtown) - Safe Harbor Marina (Harbor Island) - Seaforth Marina (Mission Bay) - Sun Harbor Marina (Point Loma) This is not the location where my sailing club is and not the marina I usually depart from. It's actually my first time at this Marina, departing, and docking. Well, you learn quick... wasn't familiar with parking and parked at LOT I for my car and my own safety as we'd be returning from the Ocean in the evening. Ample parking but it cost me about $20 bucks to park here for the day. But had i known just a short walk and the next lot over have cheaper parking for $5-6 for all day parking. Maybe I should have kept that to myself so nobody discovers that. :: SAILING ADVENTURES :: The Marina houses hundreds of yachts and sails (majority owned). Each dock has a security gate so no randoms can come in. We decided to sail out to the Pacific Ocean (usually i stay in SD Bay with my non-sailing friends) but I was with my sailing friends who are all experienced and certified and we took out a larger sail from this marina, 30' Sloop and depart from this location since it was easy to get to the Ocean. Love that this marina is close to the entrance/exit of SD Bay but this area is busy with narrow real estate for us to quickly pull up the main sail after we leave the docks. Sailing in the ocean requires a little more and a large vessel compared to sailing in SD Bay. But I loved every moment of it. Hmm maybe I need to switch sailing clubs. lol

Good service from the landing, easy check in and since my annual Mexican fishing license had expired the H&M tackle shop was able to renew my annual Mexican fishing license on the spot. Trip price was great, $705 including meals for a 2 day trip. Even better was that I had some gift certificates that H&M offers each year before the holidays that give you $100 value for $80. So I used 2 gift certificates and brought my trip price down to $505 out of pocket. I'll fish out of H&M landing again in the future.

For example my rod tip eyelet came off after I boarded a multi day trip on the Relentless. This was going to be my main rod for the trip. I took it up to the tackle shop and pleaded for help. It was 15 minutes before closing. This young punk said he was the manager and told me they would not do it. The incredible Danny Wade fixed it for me anyway. Down on the boat some guy came running down, all in a panic, saying the manager was demanding $7.83 for the repair. I gave him $50 and told him to give the change to Danny Wade. I killed it that trip with that setup. When I got back in, I asked Danny if he got the change money. He did not. Grrr!
