They've rebuilt a 4Runner rear differential that a different local shop botched, and they've installed several CV axles, also in 4Runners. As a loyal Toyota owner for almost 40 years, I've learned to use only OEM Toyota parts, which I purchase from authorized dealers. WT is the only shop in Idaho Falls that I can find that will install these parts. So I use WT exclusively for driveline work (which is all they do). Prices are reasonable, and the work is done well. Randy, the knowledgeable fellow at the front desk, understands the OEM part issue I face as a Toyota owner, and has been accommodating. Western Transmission has been better than any dealership shop I've used in four decades.

I was greeted by several staff members as i walked the many levels of the site. Several staff walked by as i looked at T-Shirts, made eye contact and offered to help. It look like they have a wide selection of accessories, and a selection of clothing. But the T-Shirts were dealers name & HD logo, not regionalized with images of the local landscape (mountains, farms, prairies - like so many other dealers) The only other "negative " is they Perhaps 5 parking places for cars & more for motorcycles parking. Considering all that parking space is taken up by showroom & repair, they probably made the best decision.

They said the battery was dead and they couldn't do any further testing without a new battery. They send me an invoice with several parts that needed to be replaced. I was confused so asked for clarification-- on one hand, they said they haven't done any testing at all, on the other, they wanted to replace several parts - total bill $2300. I ask and they reiterate that they need to replace the battery to do the testing. At the same time, they admit that they aren't sure if all those parts need to be replaced, but still asked for me to approve the work. I authorize the battery change and testing on their online app assuming that they'd replace the battery and we could continue with the testing... I did NOT approve the part replacements because they made it very clear that they weren't sure what needed to be replaced. A week later, I've heard nothing, so I text them back. They closed the ticket because I wasn't a good fit for them -- I guess asking questions about your vehicle is too much for these guys to handle. End result - we've been without a car for a week. Texts included.

When asking some basic questions about the diagnostic work that had been done, I was told by the mechanic himself working on my truck that he was "not that familiar with Diesel trucks." Took me multiple phone calls over multiple days to get a solid answer on what they had done to diagnose my truck. After I was quoted an astronomical amount to do a simple job, I paid for the diag service and I decided to have the vehicle towed away from Ross Diesel. I asked to have the truck locked while outside because it was going to take a couple days (over a weekend) for me to get to it. When I arrived to tow the vehicle, the truck was indeed left unlocked with thousands of dollars of tools inside. They were not thorough while putting my truck back together after disassembly. My fuel bowl was left partially unscrewed, air filter hose was slid onto the turbo but they forgot to tighten it, was just slid onto it. Air filter alone could have cost thousands of dollars in repairs if it had not been caught. I spoke with Ross personally. I understand mistakes happen, and I wanted to attempt to let him know the poor experience I had. If it were my name on the shop I would want to know so I could improve. After being told that I would have had to pay for them to reassemble (an air filter and fuel filter lid?) I was told by him that my truck being in the shop wasted their time, (likely because I elected to not pay the high price tag for a simple repair) and that if I didn't "trust their work, don't come back", and then was hung up on. I would highly recommend taking your vehicles to a shop who can communicate better and do a thorough job.
