My brother wanted to come here for breakfast on Sunday. He and I sat at the bar given the limited number of tables and trying to be nice to other patrons with larger parties. There were seats available at the bar but we had to ask a couple to shift in order to sit together. I'm on a bodybuilding diet and found the menu choices limited. I can eat lean meat and vegetables, neither of which there were for breakfast. I'm unable to have eggs and the whole menu seemed to be eggs, fatty meat, and bread for the most part. I ended up getting the Western Omelet which is essentially eggs with vegetables. It came with a side and I asked if vegetables were available only to be told beans? I got the potatoes and a side of sausage to go with the omelet. Not to say it was a bad experience, but the healthier options are definitely lacking. The coffee was good. I play Hickory Hill Golf Course a few times annually and have always enjoyed the course. It is always in terrific shape and was indeed the last time I played a few weeks ago. The course is a good length, not too long and not too short. There are some challenging holes especially on the back nine. It is a fun public course. All golf employees including the pro shop, the starter, and the dreaded rangers have been helpful and cordial. The clubhouse offers a number off lunch items. It is clean and the servers have been pleasant. The only negative I have is their requiring full payment a day before the reserved tee time. Most courses ask for a credit card to hold the tee time but do not charge until check in the day of play allowing all players to pay themselves. If I reserve a foursome I have to instruct them to either contact the pro shop to pay their slot, otherwise I end up having to chase my fellow players for reimbursement as my card is charged. It's a headache. Hickory Hill is a very nice public golf course for golfers of all levels. read more

There is nothing fancy about this club house BUT if you want excellent service to serve you delicious food that is very reasonably priced then I highly recommend it! Give it a try you will be back I'm sure! read more

The reason for the poor review was the ranger who hounded us on the 6th and 7th holes. We were with an elderly couple that they paired us up with and one of them was new at the game. It was a hot day and they were walking, too. The ranger asked us to try to catch up to the group in front of us, but we were on pace with them, teeing off when they were walking off the 1st green (a par four). We said, "Sure," the first time, and were polite about it, but when he hounded us the second time on the 7th hole, we weren't too pleased. If they were in a crunch, they should have told us so before we teed off. I've golfed at Hickory Hill for many years. It's a shame they have this ranger who felt the need to put pressure on us. We weren't holding anyone up. When paying decent money for a round of golf, and finishing 9 holes in 2 hr and 15 min, I don't need some guy giving me crap and telling me to "play fast." We let him know that we'd continue to play at a normal pace. Aside from the ranger, the course is nice. read more

Used to love Hickory, but it has fallen way off from its glory years. Super slow greens, several of which of which actually looked like the lunar surface-just totally bombarded by hundreds of unfixed ball marks/craters. Its just gotten shabby- deep uncut patches of rough, crappy cart paths, and huge areas of hardpan. See ya in another 20 years! read more

We didn't golf. Stopped in with Ward's Mom (Nana) today on our way home from a doctors appointment for lunch. Clubhouse has a very nice view of the beautiful course thru big windows. PRO - Nice waitress, ended up chatting with her about people we jointly knew. She was on the ball, kept our drinks filled & brought the food & menus quickly. They updated the menus since we've been here last. Fewer panini's & I was happy to see several salads. But Nana & I both wanted a burger & we got the basic Hickory Hill one. It was excellent, juicy & cooked the way I (& Nana) wanted it. Fries were good too. CON - I got nothing, which is weird. SO - Even if you don't golf, Hickory Hill offers a very good lunch menu. Nana has been for breakfast with her "ladies club" & says the breakfasts are very good too. So if you are in the area, don't be afraid to stop in. read more

Very disappointed with the customer experience recently at this golf course. Hickory Hill managements expect you to call the day before your tee time and prepay for the round which is not the generally accepted way of doing business. If you don't prepay, they shame you in the pro shop and blame you for all of the "no-shows" they have experienced in the past. Wouldn't you keep track of the "no-shows" and not take their reservation in the future? Why punish all of your paying customers for the actions of a few? None of the other golf courses require prepayment to hold a reservation, so I am not sure why they have this policy. Other courses provide an incentive to prepay such as a discount for buying 5 or 10 packs. It's disappointing that management at Hickory Hill is unwilling to listen to their customers about this unfriendly reservation policy. There are a lot of golf courses in the area in the same category and price range. This poor customer experience will certainly lead to many customers taking their business elsewhere. read more

Have played here many times over the years. The course is almost always in very good shape. The greens are among the best that I play. You get to use every club in the bag on this course. The complaints about the course rangers being a pain in the ass are accurate. But I still give Hickory Hill 4 stars. It's a very good, well kept golf course. read more

The course was in better shape than I thought based on recent reviews. The lousy review is for the starter/ranger who let way too many people on the course. Every hole was backed up. We ended up quitting after 14 holes as we were on track for a 5 1/2 hour round. Ridiculous and I won't be returning. read more

The good: course is nice and very well maintained. Check in was very easy. Now the Bad: had the rangers up arse pretty much from our 4th hole till nine. I was golfing with my 74 yr. Old dad, who was keeping up fine. Also had to high school kids, nice kids decent golfers. We weren't shagging balls in the woods or putzing around. Ranger on hole 6 decided to gather us together and lecture us on the need to speed it up. He was nice about it. I told him we are all out to enjoy the day and the game. The last thing I or anyone in my group needed was to feel pressured to speed up. The last CD 3 holes were not enjoyable. I am an occasional golfer, been golfing for 35 years and have never been told to pick up my pace. Will never go back to that course again. read more

I like golfing at Hickory Hill. Course is always in great shape. There are some tight fairways, but at the same time, there are some wide open fairways as well. There are some nice scenic tee shots too. Hickory Hill is a good value for the conditions. Giving this a 4 our of 5 only because a 5 star rating from me means it's the best around. Hickory Hill is definitely in my top 5 however. Give it a try, you'll be glad you did. read more

The course is very nice and in great shape. Especially the front. The problem is with the staff and rangers. I have been here multiple times and been harassed a majority of the times. I have been golfing over 20 years, playing bogey golf, and no one was behind us nor in front of us when harassed. The ranger has been rude multiple times to people for absolutely no reason at all, follows you around, etc. I won't be back and neither will the people I golf with. read more

It's been 10-12 years since I have played this course. I had forgotten how nice a parkland course this is. Great shape, nice food and service in the pro shop and grill room. The starter was terrific in managing my round as he maneuvered me through a tournament and some year end high school matches. I had the same experience as Rodney F. I have never experienced anything like this before at a golf course. We went out last Sunday and we were immediately told by the starter that if we fall behind we would have to skip a hole. I assured him that wouldn't happen. We were then monitored by old grumpy men every few holes. Half way through the back nine we were stopped and told we were a hole behind but that couldn't of been further from the truth. We had to wait for the group in front of us on several holes and we also had to wait 15 minutes because they were watering the green. As you can imagine, we were extra ticked off being told were a hole behind when that couldn't of been further from the truth. We really felt harassed all day for no good reason. Overall good course, great condition like most course in the area thanks to the rain. Front desk personal lack social skills, never a smile or have a good day coming from these grumps. When I was checking in I only had $65.00 cash, price was $69.00, attempted to pay the remaining by American Express was told they do not except that card and slide it back at me like it was sitting in Ebola all day. My wife was part of our foursome and I went to and got her visa, upon giving me the recent he thanked me calling me by my wife's name??? Mistake or being a jerk? After my round I made the mistake of asking if there was a prize for a near hole in one and the front desk person asked me if I was being a wise guy! Absolutely a beautiful golf course. Well maintained and very nice greens. I'm active duty military and most of the courses in this area don't offer a military discount which strikes me very odd for this region of the US which prides itself on historical patriotism. However, I did get offered the senior green fee rate which was acceptable. read more

Located in the Hickory Hill Golf course in Methuen, this little restaurant is surprisingly a great place to have lunch. My grandmother lives on the road where the Hickory Hill is located and after decades, I finally discovered that they have a restaurant. I've eaten here for lunch about five times and it's been a good experience each and every time. Their sandwiches and salads are inventive and delicious. It is obvious that whomever is preparing their menus has some training and is not afraid to be creative. If you work in the area, this is definitely a place that is worth a visit. read more

This is a really nice course and the club house has good food and great service.

Played here on a recent Sunday in the afternoon. Course was in great shape for mid July and we completed our round in 4.5 hours. We were a foursome and after the first few holes we really didn't have to wait as the marshals kept people moving. No complaints at all and although the course is a bit short it was in great shape and the greens were pretty good too! read more

Nice course. Check-in was quick and easy. Carts ready and in good condition. Front nine is wide and long, "grip it and rip it". Back nine is a bit tighter and hilly. Fairways are in good condition, some hard pan on the edges on the back nine. The greens were in great condition and rolled true. Challenging, great conditions, a fun course. The club house restaurant serves good food and drinks. I know people who don't golf that come here just to eat. read more
