As a nomad golfer, I can't tell you how the little things add up. Friendly to strangers? Challenging course in good condition? Polite starter? Adequate spacing of tee times to ensure good pace? Good food and drinks at the 19th? Let's me walk on the weekend? This place got positive marks in all the right places (at least for me). $85.00 for a round of golf here (surely not) - to play on Hawk. Shocking 9 holes. Other 2 9-hole course are good. Rudest guy in the club shop ever. Got to pay for a cart too since hawk is about 67 miles from the clubhouse. read more

I think the course itself has got great potential, however the online booking system doesn't accurately reflect what's actually available. I also wish that they offered pricing specials. One other thing is I wish the snack and bev cart went to all of the courses. I also wish that there are other 9 hole course options aside from the Hawk on the weekend. read more

Worst golf course around. I know we are in a drought but this is unreal. $75 for this is nuts

Played here today and the course was in terrific condition. The tee boxes, the fairways and the greens were all in tip top shape. The course is a nice test of golf and you will use every club in your bag. The greens are good size and offer a wide variety in speed and undulations. Make sure you rent a cart because the course is very hilly. I definitely recommend Far Corners. read more

Just spoke with Phil at the pro shop and he was the rudest person I have ever came across when trying to book a tee time. Basically told me that I needed to pay for 4 people to secure a tee time for a solo walker, told me that it wasn't worth it for him to Book me since it wasn't a group. This is a good golf course. In full disclosure I played here during the week in a driving rain so I can't speak about pace of play. There are 27 holes set in farmland in Boxford MA. The course is broken down into three nines, the Fox, the Herron, and the Hawk. I played the Heron and a couple holes on the Fox. The pro shop was better then I thought it was going to be . They had a large selection of decent quality golf gear and clubs. The gentlemen working the front desk was nice and laid back. He checked me in and sent me on my way within two minutes. There is a grass driving range and decent size (about 6 holes) putting green directly in adjacent to the club house. The practice facility isn't expansive but it gets the job done, and it's hard to beat grass tees on the range. They send you out in gas carts, another plus in my book. The Herron does a nice job playing with elevation. You are often driving the ball up hill and then hitting your approach shot back down. Most holes are surrounded by woods and about half of the course feels very secluded. There is a lot of wild life, mostly birds, on the course and overall it has a country vibe. The changes in elevation give some great views, making this a great spot for fall golf. The conditions were decent. Some beat up fairways here and there but overall good. The greens also rolled true and were in good shape. I was actually surprised at how nice they were seeing the course has a bit of a muni vibe. I would recommend this course for anyone in the Boston area, with the same caveat that I can't speak to pace of play. It is about a 50 minute drive north of the city. I don't know what gives with all these low scores; these people must be smoking more than cigars on the links. Far Corner is a collection of three 9-hole courses name "Fox," "Hawk," and "Heron." I have played both the Fox and the Heron and let me tell you, the Fox kicked my ass. I shot my worst 9-hole score there. But, even given my frustration that day, I could admit it was a very nice course with great variation between holes and, obviously, a hearty challenge. I walked the Fox and it was a bit of a hike, but not too bad. Today, I played the Heron. Let me tell you, that is not a course I'd want to walk. It's up and down and up and down. However, this creates a great deal of variety and challenge between holes and some spectacular views. The Heron didn't beat me down like the Fox did, but it certainly was no cakewalk. (Especially on some of those challenging greens.) In fact, I'd say the Heron is just about the most perfect 9-hole course I've played. Maintenance on the Fox was very good, the Heron was a little bit more beat up. If a few divots and a little (read: very little, I'm not trying to bash on the overall maintenance of the course, which was at least above average) dead grass really grind your gears, I suppose I could see a low score for this place. But I personally would much rather have a course with a lot of character that is maintained well than a course that is immaculately maintained but 18 holes of repetitive boredom. And character is something Far Corner has in spades. read more

Enjoyed a round here today. Course maintenance is OK but definitely could be better for the price. Most of the trouble was with the sand traps--lots of sand in the grass, and very uneven sand-grass borders. Some of the fairways are as wide as air fields, and a few are tight. There is a lot of water to play over and around, making it really pretty, and fun, depending on your game, of course. There are some nice views from the tops of hills, and there are some pretty big hills. This is a fun, interesting course, and I think it was worth the drive from Medford. read more

I thought the course was in good condition and was a great level of difficulty to accommodate both novice and more experienced players in our group. the staff seemed very nice, especially at the grill. the tee times were a bit behind already by 8:30 AM, and we often times were running into the group ahead of us with the one behind us right on our tails. read more

Friendly staff , very challenging course thats always in decent shape. The grass driving range makes for a great warm up area. The only negative is the new 9 they built about 10 years back is horrible. The layout is awful i avoid this 9 at all cost Give far corners a try. Played here plenty, avoid the "Herron", play the "Fox" if anything. I just stopped going, you can kind of get a good feel for a golf course by the way people act in the club house. Course is very hilly, bring your hiking boots. Rates are expensive for the condition of the course. A fair amount of blind pin locations. read more

Friendly people and relatively easy to get tee time but the last two times we've been there we played over well over five hour rounds with no sign of rangers doing anything to speed up play. Maybe the folks there are too nice but I can't stomach another five hour plus round at this course on a weekend. Might be better during the week but if you enjoy golf better when played briskly I'd skip playing here on a Saturday or Sunday. read more

Played here a few days ago and thought the course offered a pretty good golfing experience. Arrived early enough to hit a small bucket on the range and was told in the golf shop that if I headed down to the first tee a little ahead of my tee time, they would probably get me out on the course ahead of schedule. However, when my playing partner and I arrived at the first tee on time, we found out that the they had already let the other twosome that we were paired with go out (and apparently the starter had let a foursome hit their tee shots even before that twosome got to the tee). It should also be mentioned that there were probably three or four foursomes waiting at the tee when we got to it, and the starter was beside himself when we showed up. He definitely tried to make it seem like we were at fault, even though we were on time. So if I can offer a suggestion: make sure you arrive at the first tee a few minutes early (at least on weekend mornings) or your round may begin with more stress than it should. Onto the course itself.... I played the Fox and Heron and found the Fox to be in better shape overall. The greens on the Heron had clearly been aerated within the last few days, but for the most part they didn't roll too badly. It would've been nice if they knocked a few dollars off the cost of the round considering that -- I know most courses offer discounted rates immediately following an aeration. There were a couple greens on the Fox course, however, that were in rough shape and likely would need to be completely reseeded to be fixed (think closely mowed crabgrass in some spots). You should expect a fair amount of elevation change and water hazards (some guarding the green and some just beyond the tee boxes). The fifth hole on the Fox is the hardest hole that I played. It's a dogleg left that played into a strong head wind. All shots into the green are severely uphill and the green itself is very difficult with a big ridge that cuts through the center of the green and smaller undulations that are hard to pick up. The hole is a par 4 and plays 472 yards from the blues (again, at least half of that distance is all uphill). In my opinion, the hole would still be incredibly difficult even with a benign putting surface. Par is a fantastic score on this one. There are also a handful of holes that require an approach shot to an elevated green where the putting surface can't be seen from the hitting area. This is neither good nor bad; just something to consider if you go mad at the thought of an approach shot that rolls down the slope away from the putting surface after landing only a foot or two short of the intended spot. Contrary to what others wrote, I didn't have a problem with the layout and given that it's a well-trafficked public course, you have to expect to find a fair number of ball marks on the greens that need fixing. At $46 on the weekend and $41 during the week, the greens fees seem to be inline with the overall experience. You'll want to be in good shape if you plan to walk the course, but for those looking for a faster round, the extra $18 for a cart is a necessary investment. read more

Fox and Heron are great courses but avoid Hawk. It seems like a design afterthought and was laid out on very hilly terrain. For the price of play course maintenance is not up to par and there are never any rangers out promoting a reasonable pace of play. My last 18 hole round here took 5 hours and 32 minutes! Completely unacceptable. read more

Far Corners is by far my favorite Public course in M.A. With a challenging 27 holes, and good distance at 6700 yards. Value is superb, with great regular day rates and after 3pm discount specials. There really are few things Far Corners is lacking, but there are one or two annoying holes where unfriendly bounces are common. All things considered, its a go-to. read more

Played there for the first time and looking forward to going back. Its a great 27 hole layout and the course conditions were excellent. We were able to play all three 9s Fox/Heron/Hawk and found each hole challenging but fair. We also found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. dont waste your time or money. The 27 hole layout is a joke. Played there for the first time and will not be going back there. played fox and then hawk. fox was in ok shape but the greens were absolutely terrible. i'm used to playing new england courses where greens arent always rolling true or are in prestine shape but the greens here were bumpy at best and no one fixes there ball marks. As for the layout, there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to how they designed this place. driving around in a cart you have to guess as to where the next teebox is. no signs posted, rarely if ever, any signs painted on the cart paths. you have people driving around and thru your play when trying to find their way to the next 9 (hawk). we almost drove into the tee shots of our next group after finishing #5 and heading to #6 where the tee box was on a hill where you have to drive into the teebox and then make a U turn to face the #6 fairway. The over grown bushes were completely blocking the teebox and we couldnt see the next group hitting their teeshots and alsmost drove into a wayward drive. again, no signs to warn of players hitting into you. no bell. nothing. Now to pace of play, we had a 3 some in front of us and a 4some in front of them. the 4some was fine. but the 3 some ahead of us were dilly dallying the whole time. they never had to wait for their next shot yet still took forever, hitting multiple mulligans, taking their time strolling to their ball, hitting their shots and taking their time to chit chat with each other after every shot before driving off. meanwhile were waiting on every shot as they take their time. 2 hr and 45 min front 9 at fox. then we head to hawk, which we figured out after several minutes that we had to drive thru hole 1 and hole 2 of fox to get to #1 for hawk! again no signs no nothing. we figured it out after remembering we had players driving thru 1 and 2 when we were playing it. and now we were driving thru as others were playing it which was annoying. we get there and the 3 some who was in front of us was no longer there. great right?! NO. we get there and theres 2 groups already waiting there! the first group about to hit was a 5SOME! with 3 out of the 5 of them walking!!!!! awesome. it took us 35 min to finish #1 at hawk. by the time we got to the next teebox of course were waiting again for the gorup in front to finish teeing off. we sat there for another 10 min before i called the clubhouse to inform them that they had a 5some out there and pace was ridiculous. They sent someone out there but didnt break up the 5some. pace did NOT improve. after another 25 min we finally finish #2. over an hour to play 2 holes?!! i had plans after golf so after hole 3 at hawk i just left knowing that i would never finish in time to make my plans esp after the ranger didnt break up the 5some. went into the clubhouse to return the cart key and told the guy it took over an hour to play 2 holes with a 5 some on the course. he was matter of fact about it and dismissed it. awesome. the rest of my group finished all 18 in 5 1/2 hours! 1 hour after normal pace??? dont waste your time here unless you have 6 hours to spare on a golf course or you live near there. far corner....stay far far away read more
