Best deck in the Whiteshell. Friendly staff and consistently good food. Open all year round a real bonus for winter cottagers.

Great restaurant, open throughout the whole year. They also still operated with take out and pick up during restrictions.

**** Overall, we had…read morea very nice stay and would consider staying here again. We booked a king room with a lake view, and the room itself was excellent. It was modern, spotless, tastefully decorated, and had a comfortable armchair by the window that quickly became my favorite spot to enjoy my morning coffee while taking in the view. The bathroom was on the small side but was well designed, functional, and had a great walk-in shower. One thing to be aware of is the window coverings. The draperies don't extend all the way to the floor, so quite a bit of early morning sunlight comes into the room. If you're someone who likes to sleep past sunrise--especially during the long summer days in northern Ontario--you may want to bring an eye mask. My biggest disappointment was the lack of a restaurant. We were told it's been "closed for renovations" for about three years. For what appears to be one of the nicest (and pricier) hotels in the area, it's surprising that guests have to leave the property just to get breakfast or even a cup of coffee. The revolving top floor seems like it would make an incredible restaurant with amazing views--I hope they bring it back someday. Given the nightly rate, I expected a more complete hotel experience. The front desk staff were fine, but not particularly welcoming. We also received a rather odd phone call one morning asking whether a woman had been banging on our door. The employee kept repeating "good morning" before explaining why she was calling, which made for a confusing interaction. The outside of the property could also use some attention. The parking lot is full of potholes and definitely needs resurfacing. We also noticed people loitering near the entrance, which wasn't the greatest first impression. One other downside: we could hear guests in a nearby room coming and going after 11:00 p.m., which interrupted our sleep. The good news is that several restaurants and coffee shops are only about a 10-minute walk away, so there are convenient dining options nearby. This hotel has all the makings of a five-star stay. If they reopened the restaurant, improved the exterior, upgraded the window coverings, and polished a few customer service details, it would be an easy five stars from us.

**** This ended up…read morebeing one of our favorite spots in Kenora--we liked it so much that we came back twice during our trip! The first time was for drinks with six of us on the patio. We had such a great time that we returned the following night with four of us just before closing for pizza. Jonathan was our server both times, and he was fantastic--friendly, efficient, attentive, and just plain fun. He even accidentally spilled a glass of Prosecco on me during our first visit (luckily I was wearing black!), but he handled it with humor and professionalism. The fact that we happily came back the very next night says everything about the overall experience. On our second visit, we ordered the 13-inch Canadian NWO pizza (pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms, and mozzarella). As someone from the U.S., I'd never even heard of an "NWO" pizza! It was delicious, although the crust was just a little more done than I prefer. At around $26 CAD, it was a bit pricey, but we'd still order it again. The beer was good, though none of the ones we sampled really wowed us. Honestly, that hardly mattered because the atmosphere was so much fun. We loved both the patio and the indoor/outdoor seating, and the place had a lively, welcoming energy that made us want to stay awhile. We enjoyed it so much that we even bought a T-shirt before leaving. If you're in Kenora, don't miss this place. Great service, good food, a fun vibe, and a perfect place to relax with family or friends. We'd absolutely be back.

There are many options for both food and drinks. They have many options for locally brewed drinks as well. The sweet chilli wings were delicious but very spicy so be wary, but the portion was plenty. The burger and salad was also delicious, the salad was especially stand out with many mix ins. The ciders were also good, perfectly sweet. The vibe of the brewery was very warm and welcoming. Many screens going as well and I heard they have a projector for when games are playing. Overall a cozy and welcoming place with many options, I recommend if you're in the area!

Those who are observant will also notice that the other side of the parking lot was the location of the first air mail flight in Manitoba (1927). Look for the stone mini-monument. The inside looks like most other small-town pubs, with the dated wood paneling. The bar itself is on a raised area at the back. There is a dance floor as well, but it seemed like nobody used it. There is an actual mini-liquor store in the very back, around the back of the bar counter. Good to know as the local MLCC (government liquor store) closes early most days. The other thing to mention is that this hotel also has a Chinese restaurant, accessed through a side door next to the bar counter. See my review of Lake View Restaurant. On Fridays and Saturdays, there is a steak night. Seriously, you have to hit this up. I had the 16oz T-bone. This dish comes with onion rings and coleslaw by default. You can pick between wedges and fries (I chose wedges). The steak is one of the better ones in recent memory. No gristle or tendons, and a very decent cut. Served with sauteed mushrooms on top. The bun was meh, and the onion rings and potato wedges were also nothing special. I enjoyed the coleslaw though. Really liked how they didn't drown the thing in dressing. 4 stars for the steak, and 3.5 stars after factoring in the sides.

I started my meal with The Cornerstone Salad (mixed greens, strawberries, red onions, feta, candied pecans, signature strawberry balsamic vinaigrette). I was blown away by this salad. The greens were fresh, the strawberries were ripe, sweet and plentiful, the candied pecans were crunchy, and the signature strawberry balsamic vinaigrette brought all the flavors together perfectly. It was a lovely light and refreshing salad. For my main I ordered the Chicken Bacon Mushroom Carbonara (fettuccine, roasted chicken breast, applewood smoked bacon, sauteed creminis, garlic Back Oven sourdough). This dish was so rich and decadent - a heart attack on a plate - but delicious! The flavor of the sauteed creminis was enhanced by the creamy sauce, and the smoked bacon added a nice overall touch. Service was OK; I did takeout and it took much longer for the food to be ready than originally promised, but the wait was worth it. I also absolutely loved how all the takeout packaging was eco-friendly, no plastic at all! Street parking available. TLDR; good food, eco-friendly takeout packaging, highly recommended
