Avoid coming to HHLA at all costs. Not only are there no retailers here anymore, but we came to watch a movie at Cinemark and they don't fully validate the parking. It's $2.80 for parking if you watch a movie. And the movie theater seats are not very comfortable. Pay to watch the movie and then pay to park to watch the movie. There are several things I dislike about this mall: 1. The map does NOT have a "YOU ARE HERE" symbol! 2. Signage directs you into The Backrooms complete with exposed piping and rat traps! 3. Misleading GIGANTIC Dave and Busters sign! 4. Muhammad Ali Experience opening 2023 has not even painted over the Sneakertopia experience welcome sign. 5. It's easier to find your way into the Delivery door of the Islands restaurant than to actually find the restaurant. 6. NO SAMPLES AT BEN AND JERRY'S AND TOOK ME FOREVER TO FIND IT. 7. Unfortunately this place is still a joke after all these years! Not enough shops, quality shops and they still want you to pay for parking. They are stingy to give extra time or discount for the theater validation. 20 CENTS off for parking with the theater's validation. LOL! That's an insult. They are renovating and it's very inconvenient. Park at the structure but yet have to walk out to the street to enter the shopping center and theater through the streets. Word of advice to the management; you should not make customers that are willing to come Shop and eat here pay a parking fee in this ridiculous inconvenient mess!! Yet, you do and expect customers to come back? If it's not for the free movie pre screenings at the theater, I will never step a foot in your center, especially now with Nordstrom Rack gone and moved to Westfield Culver City mall down the street. Pretty cool mall, it's just always under construction. The parking garage is under ground, there's two entrances- one at each side on the main road in front. We mainly come here for the theater- which is clean, not too many people, and cozy seats. But there's other activities here like a color me mine and a Dave and busters. For food we've tried kabuki which has good sushi and the hummus factory is tasty as well. We always hit the Ben and Jerry's if we can! But there's ton of stuff to try and I'm sure there will be even more when it's finally finished. A bit hard to navigate due to all the cones and scaffolding and tape and walls but follow the signs and you'll be fine! read more

Go here often for mani pedi and shopping. There are tons of stores, and lots of fast food and restaurants (some good, some not). It's never very crowded, except on Saturday night, and during the summer there are free music concerts on the plaza. (They cover over the fountain and make it a bandstand.) Lots of business people here for lunch from the surrounding office buildings. Parking underneath is a little weird -- sort of a long, narrow space. If you end up parking way at one end, you have quite a walk to the central area. There is also a very convenient valet underground. read more

Since opening, the Promenade at Howard Hughes Center appears to be in a perpetual state of decline. The tale of failure is a lengthy one of restaurants and businesses accented by the closure of Callendars' Grill, Borders Books, On the Border, Jamba Juice, Truxton's Bistro, the Bridge Movie Theater (now opened under new management/name), Jodi Maroni's, and a half dozen other small restaurants/shops. Nordstroms Rack, the theater, and a corporate lunch crowd doesn't seem like nearly enough to sustain financial success over any length of time. A major draw or attraction is needed if Howard Hughes expects to compete with the improvements made by the nearby Westfield - Culver City Mall (about 3 blocks away). Here's a list of the restaurants that remain at the Howard Hughes Center: Islands, Souplantation, Kabuki, Rubios, Wild Thai, Johnny Rockets, Subway, Star Chicken, Stefano's Pizza, Starbucks, and a couple other small places. Do any of those sound like a place you would drive out of your way to visit? Would you pay for parking to eat at one of them? Given the neighborhood, $2 or $3 for parking is likely a turnoff for many potential visitors. Since I regularly work within walking distance of Howard Hughes, it is a place I'm at several times a week for lunch. I'm glad it's there, but wish desperately that some real improvements are made to attract better businesses and therefore more customers. My friend and I had some time to kill before meeting another friend so we decided to stop by here (it was my idea by the way :-( to stop here since I've seen it many times as I've whizzed past it along the 405) and do some shopping. We get into the parking structure and were immediately confused! There were 30 min parking or 2 hr parking and it was just crazy! I couldn't understand why the maximum parking time was only 2 hours but then, when we actually got INTO the shopping area itself, it made sense. There was NOTHING there! There was a Nordstrom Rack, Borders, a movie theater, a bunch of eating establishments (not nice ones either) and that's it! After wandering around the Rack we decided it was time to go -- and OMG, we weren't even there that long, but had to pay a buck for parking. The first 30 mins are free. UGH! This has got to be one of the worst shopping places I've ever been to. Now that I've been inside, I'll never come back again! read more

Sooo...I'm not sure why one should pay for parking while "shopping" here. Actually, there really isn't any stores (even Nordstrom Rack is moving to Westfields Culver City) and the only thing it has is the movie theater and a smattering of eateries. I feel really bad for the businesses here since the parking fee (no matter how small it may be) doesn't help attract people to pick this place as a viable dining spot. We only stopped by here because of Ben & Jerry's and luckily, we were able to get out in 30 minutes (free parking for 30 min, $1 for 30min-1hr, $2 for 1-4hr) but we cut it pretty close since we were at the mercy of the slow cars in front of us! I don't know who designed this place but really they seriously messed up on the design of this building. Parking is a cringe that I seriously don't ever feel like going here. The elevators sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, so many stores just close down because it is pretty much a ghost town. In the future, when deciding where I want to go eat, do you really think I'm gonna pick the chain restaurant with $4 parking over somewhere else? Even the Beverly Center isn't that bad. So much potential and promises but this is a center that failed to deliver. I remember coming here a few years ago and there was a good amount of restaurants, but now mostly fast food places, and not even the good ones. Islands, Kabuki, and the newly opened Souplantation are the standouts at this place and that's the only reason I would come to this center to eat. Starbucks? Only if I had a class or worked near by. Shopping-wise, if you have kids or need gift, Color Me Mine is a good spot. There's also a Nordstrom Rack, but it's a small one. Not as much inventory definitely hurts this location when compared to others. Also, $2 for parking. No validation or anything. The only good thing about the $2 flat fee is that you can park there for the whole day for just $2, but if you're just grabbing a meal or looking to check out a store, it's annoying. Many empty spaces. Management needs to figure out a way to bring business here to this quiet center. read more

Errrrr...... First it's $3 parking and there's only validation with a movie and I believe you still have to pay $2 something. So with paying for parking, my family was expecting a great mall....no. It's a beautiful structure, but they just don't know what stores/restaurants to put in. When my parents and I were walking around...we just laughed, we couldn't believe we paid $3 for nothing. There were SO many cars...but where were all the people?!? We're guessing the theaters, but who knows! The reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because it's extremely clean (maybe because of the lack of people). This mall is awful but I come here all the time. There are places in it that I love (and have reviewed separately), but the structure and their inability to retain businesses is another issue altogether. I pretty much only go to the movie theater, Nordstrom's Rack and Kabuki. And The Rack is most likely moving over to Fox Hills when their Rack opens in Spring of 2013. Then that won't be here either, and we'll pretty much only come for the movie theater and the occasional dinner after a movie at Kabuki. If there was a real IMAX screen pretty much ANYWHERE else within 5 miles, we'd skip the movie theater in a heartbeat, too. The parking situation is beyond ridiculous. You should not have to pay for something so backwards and unaccommodating, and in cash, no less. It's only $2, if you come after 4pm on, i think, Mondays-Thursdays. Otherwise it's by the duration you're there, with the first 30 minutes free. You have to drive up to the Brown level to park to access the upper level of the mall properly. People end up playing speed racer circle games trying to get up there. Pedestrians beware. The food places are constantly changing and mostly crap. The bathrooms are in a weird spot (odd hallway next to either of the Nordstrom's doors - just walk in there and you'll see them eventually... it's a long hallway), always freezing cold and never very clean. read more

I have been to this movie theater since about 2008 the service by the staff here is always nice and professional. I have never had a problem with the quality of service provided by the movie theater or the movie theater staff at this location. I have been coming here since it was the bridge theaters and now it is rave however I feel the experience of going to the movies here actually improved. My problem however is not with the movie theater or anyone that works here my biggest concern is with the people that go and watch movies here. They are rude, loud just plane inconsiderate. I don't believe that one can enjoy a cinematic experience on the first weekend the movie comes out because I have been bothered by the crowds that I've come here to see the movies on many occasions. If you are a weekday movie goer or perhaps a Sunday evening movie watcher I would suggest coming here other time to snow that you'll be sitting next to some very rowdy people. read more

I come here pretty often and every time I do I just go for the movie theater. The center is quite lonely and there is not much to do besides have something to eat or watch a movie. They have a variety of restaurants but no shopping stores. So, I would suggest coming here to watch movies not to go shopping. The theater is not too packed and often has a good list of movies to choice from. The staff is friendly and the place is quite clean. The theater rooms are not always full so there are a variety of seats available. The ticket and food/snack prices are the same as any other movie theater. Sometimes they have performers on the little plaza located on the first floor. Usually they have Jazz players performing, which you could hear throughout the entire center. I would suggest coming here on a date if you don't plan on spending a lot of money since all there is to do really is watch a movie or eat at a restaurant. read more

The Promenade has so much potential because of its location. The parking is easy and it's a gorgeous little spot to hangout away from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. I like to get my Starbucks here and just get away from people. Now, it's really struggling for visitors... Basically, I came here (like most) for the movie theater or Nordstrom Rack (apparently its no longer there). And when I lived in Westchester, it was either here or the Westfield Mall Culver City. Had I lived in another area of town, I probably wouldn't have made a special trip. read more

We had driven by this shopping center a bunch of times when we were on the 405. My husband and I had a few early morning errands one Saturday morning and we wanted to catch a movie on our way home so we stopped by the Howard Hughes Center. We arrived at 10 am and parking was not an issue at all. The garage was just about empty. Our movie didn't start until 11:15, so I was even able to sneak in a quick pedicure before it began. The movie theater was overall a pleasant experience, but then again, it was quite empty at 11 am. We enjoyed grabbing a quick slice of pizza for lunch before leaving. read more

I came here when it was empty... :D Because we were shooting a scene for Modern Family at 6am in the morning. It was the Flash Mob scene in 'Manny Get Your Gun'. So we got there at 6am to practice and then performed it when it started becoming sunny. This place is pretty. The fountain was nice and the theater was pretty! The theater is huge (2 story) and IMAX. We couldn't watch anything but we lounge in the lounge area and that was nice. There aren't many stores. Gamestop... Nordstrom... ok... what else? We were there for twelve hours and I couldn't find a store I liked to shop, but I was there to shoot so it was fun. The place has potential to be a great shopping area. Yikes, this place is the pits! I actually opt-out when friends suggest going here for... well, anything! There always seem to be some type of construction/repairs taking place. Parking can be a nightmare with the TINY spots and inconsiderate, BAD drivers. Valet is inconsistent. The movie theater is disgusting/ghetto. Dave and Busters is one of THE worst I've been to... Buffalo Wild Wings is groady. Mrs. Field's cookies are sometimes stale. Wetzel's Pretzels, Souplantation, and Johnny Rockets are OK. My wife and I have lived in Fox Hills for nearly twenty years. We have frequented The Howard Hughes Center pretty much since the day it opened because of its close proximity to our home. The other night we went to take our children to the movies and what a terrible experience we had. The construction which has been going on for the last six months is a separate issue, but it is related. Because you chose to remodel the entire complex at the same time, you only have a tiny corridor for customers to travel since most of the other entrances to the theaters (and really the entire complex) are closed. You also chose to open Dave and Busters, an incredibly popular destination on this side of town, shortly before beginning this construction. Last night we came out of the movies and as we came towards the front of the center through the only narrow walkway available, with our small children, we came out to the front of Dave and Busters to find nearly 100 people choking the walkway. There were people openly smoking marijuana, people that appeared to be inebriated after having left Dave and Busters, and as I tried to keep up with my children, who could move through the throng a little easier, a man actually grabbed me and threatened to punch me. My children were terrified. This is an incredibly popular destination, at an incredibly popular time of year for graduate's celebrating, and yet there was not a single security officer on site, no provision for crowd control, and no one safely directing foot traffic. All of this to be said, I will NEVER bring my family to an area that is unsafe, where drugs can be used in the open, and where the property owners are clearly unconcerned with the well being and experience of their patrons. I will take my family and my money to one of the many other venues on the Westside who treat their customers with the proper care and concern they have earned and deserve. I truly hope you resolve these issues, as we are sad to no longer be able to frequent a destination so close to our home, yet that is unsafe and whose ownership has clearly not learned from security issues in the past. I tried to send the administrative staff a message through their customer support tool, but it was broken, and remains broken several days later. I sent the administrative staff a message on Facebook several days ago as well, but have heard nothing from them. If you come on a weekend evening you will want to run screaming from all the Hooligans running around, especially since there is no longer a Borders to take refuge in. The Howard hughes promenade was the place to watch movies when i was in junior high. It had a number of great stores that you could explore (nordstrom rack, borders, etc) and a wide selection of restaurants to eat at before of after a movie. The movie theater has changed and is now a cinemark theater. The movies are really cheap...especially if you have a student ID. I paid $6.50 last time. The restaurants have changed but currently there is an Islands, souplantation, johnny rockets, dave & busters, stefano's pizza, and buffalo wild wings. The stores have mostly disappeared but if you want dinner and a movie, howard hughes is a good place to go. read more

Great spot for a movie, shopping at the Rack or grabbing a bite to eat. The movies are a bit pricey, but the theater is super clean and the sound is pretty great. The 2nd floor has a bar , so what more can you ask for? Their IMAX theater is also pretty awesome, so when you feel the need to splurge, go here. The biggest problem with this center is that the management thinks they are in downtown LA and need to charge for parking, yes the parking is not that substantial but the center is dying, to keep the center alive you need to offer a reason for people to come, if you eliminate the parking people would come here for something other than the movies and dinner once a month. Stores are empty, restaurants don't validate for parking, the car detail guy is standing around with nothing to do, The parking garage is empty. It's a ghost town, get into the 21st century and help your brick and mortar stores survive, eliminate paid parking and keep people from shopping online or this will turn into the Hawthorne Plaza read more

Everything about this place is awful, the design, the construction, the parking layout and parking prices, the lack or restaurants and stores, the scary crowds that loiter here. Almost every restaurant and store has closed up in the past 5 years - Johnny Rockets, Star Chicken, Stefanos Pizza, Rubios Mexican Grill, Thai restaurant, soup plantation, Bay Club. And NONE of these locations have been replaced with anything - its literally just empty store after empty store. I'm not surprised every restaurant left either - the building and management seem like a joke. Overcharging people for very poorly designed parking, overcharging tenants for rent, not maintaining a safe space. There is no demand for anything here other than young kids going to D and B. This place is dangerous, I have felt my life in danger just from the types of people hanging out here, not to mention the numerous crimes and hostage situation that has taken place in the area. Tenants, customers, everyone, stay away - this poorly run garbage strip mall thinks that some renovation can change their permanently stained image and horrible reputation. The one thing that this Promenade has is the IMAX at the Bridge movie theater. It is a real IMAX with a huge screen (6 stories tall). There are some new multiplex IMAX screens (like the ones at some AMC theaters) that are noticeably smaller. I recently saw Iron Man 2 at this IMAX and it was a pretty good movie theater going experience (big screen, crisp picture, great sound). I was not a huge fan of the movie though. In the past, I've seen some impressive IMAX showings at The Bridge including The Polar Express (3-D), The Dark Knight and Avatar (3-D). Spider-Man 2 (though it did not take full advantage of the IMAX screen as those other three movies) was also pretty impressive. The picture quality was so good that you could actually see the outlines of Tobey Maguire's contact lenses (considering that his superpowers eliminated his need for corrective vision, I guess that was a case of the picture quality being too good). The other screens at The Bridge aren't bad, but the movies tickets (especially the Director's Hall) are expensive and legroom can be limited. The 1-2-3 Go Box for $7 includes a small popcorn, small drink and a bag of regular M&M's (not a bad deal for movie theater concessions). Food choices are limited to chains (and not even great chains). Chains featured here include Islands, Subway, Rubio's, Marie Callender's Grill, and Johnny Rockets. For stores, the primary draws are Nordstrom Rack and Borders. The Borders is pretty big and has a nice selection, but considering that there are a lot of Borders out there, it may be hard to justify coming here just for the Borders since you have to pay for parking. With the summer movie season coming, my visits to the Promenade will increase, but I only come here for those IMAX movies. I haven't found another strong reason to visit The Promenade At Howard Hughes Center. And since the stores and restaurants have stayed pretty much the same since it first opened, I think I will continue to come here only for the IMAX. The IMAX is 5 stars; most of everything else is 2 stars. Parking is typically $2 (no discounts if you go to a movie). Most of the time, it is pretty easy to find a parking spot. During peak times, it can take a little longer and can be quite frustrating. I use to frequent here for Dave and busters and Buffalo Wild Wings but I was assaulted here tonight by a group of teenagers. I was shoved incredibly hard and knocked to the floor while I was entering the elevator to get to my car and when I turned I saw a teenage girl who then proceeded to call me provocative names. Behind her was a mob, yes a mob(about 30-40) up to no good teenagers whom seemingly looked like her friends laughing like like it was funny to mess with a stranger and as if they were expecting me to chase after them to lead into an altercation. I no longer feel safe coming here so I will take my business elsewhere where there is security monitoring the premises. read more

A sprawling concrete and glass complex that faces a cluster of tall buildings on a main drag where the sun only seems to shine at high noon, The Promenade at Howard Hughes Center soars high on my boycott list. My first brush with Hughes Center, as I call it, was for a knee examination at Kerlan-Jobe. To avoid garage fees, I parked at the top of an adjacent Westchester hill, walked down to the office and back. I was young, driven (by myself to the aforementioned hill), and determined to challenge my body. The body has since taken command and has been calling the shots for untold years now. Hughes Center was built with the promise that it would be a good neighbor to its surrounding community. Freeway on- and off-ramps were a leap forward from the old 405 southbound exit on Sepulveda Boulevard, across the street from Dinah's. Before the Promenade, the din of private helicopters using the Sepulveda corridor north of LAX was dispersed after a lengthy-but-successful campaign by Westchester residents and their representative and then-City Council president, Pat Russell. Most ensuing aircraft noise has come from police choppers hovering above various incidents at the 69-acre complex and freeway ramps, completed in 2000. My second visit was a Sunday brunch at Souplantation, which is admittedly convenient after the one at Marina Marketplace closed. The parking lot was mostly empty that morning. The mall was quiet and, in more ways than one, pretty vacant (a la Johnny Rotten, not necessarily tenant Johnny Rockets). So, thank you, Promenade at Howard Hughes Center, for the useful and cool freeway access to Westchester and south Culver City, but the acreage within your perimeter was more inspiring as unimproved wasteland.
