Definitely worth getting a group of you together as you get a discounted price of £36.50 per person (includes train travel and 4 course meal). This might seem quite pricey seeing as it doesn't include drinks but worth every penny for the quantity and quality of the food and the amazing service! I went last year as part of my monthly curry club so we were in a group of 12. Our escort was easy to spot dressed in fantastic 'Raj' Indian attire adding to the authenticity of the journey! As you arrive in Corbridge the restaurant is literally accessed from the platform. The food was ample and absolutely delicious....never before had this group of greedy curry fans been defeated by the plethora of nans,rice and sides. That said we all have a separate dessert stomach and took advantage of the many ice creams on offer. On our return journey home we were a quiet bunch....needless to say we had been adequately fed and were enjoying our temporary food coma's!

We found the staff helpful, the station easy enough to navigate, etc... I was glad that we arrived early to find which platform our LNER train was on (#3) and then figure out what area to board based on our prebooked tickets. I didn't realize until it was too late that there was a designated warmer indoor area for us to wait. Bummer! Our train departed on time but did hit a delay on our route... clearly that is not the fault of the Newcastle Central Station, however. I'm not sure if/when I'll be back, but if you find yourself in the area, this is a beautiful station to come into or out of. Safe travels!

The station opened in August 1850, as part of the then Newcastle & Carlisle Railway and York, Newcastle & Berwick Railway. Now it's a Grade 1 listed building located in the city's Grainger Town area, to the west of the Castle Keep. The station was noted for its complex set of diamond crossings to the east of the station which facilitated access to the High Level Bridge and northbound East Coast Main Line and was said to be the greatest such crossing in the world. The crossing was the subject of many early-1900s post cards, titled The Largest Railway Crossing in the World, photographed from the castle (towards the station), or from the station towards the castle. Trains cross the River Tyne on one of two bridges. The older High Level Bridge, south-east of the station, was designed by Robert Stephenson opened on 27 September 1849. Its location meant north-south trains had to reverse in the station to continue their journey. The King Edward VII Bridge south-west of the station opened on 10 July 1906 allowing north-south trains to continue without reversing. The two bridges enable the trackwork north and south of the river to form a complete circle, allowing trains to be turned if necessary. The former Gateshead depot next to the connecting tracks on the south side of the Tyne, mirrored Newcastle station.

Courteous and efficient, our representative here was all we could expect! The station itself was clean and laid out in an appropriate manner so that travel in and out was easy. Bit of a walk to Durham city center, it's mostly downhill so no worries leaving. Walking to the station was mostly up hill. We had a lovely stay in Durham!

I had to travel to Penrith from Preston for three consecutive days to attend a course. I have to…read morehighly praise the platform staff for their excellent customer service, especially on Wednesday 9th July. The young lady asked me what my reserved seat number was, told me where to stand and literally the door was right in front of me when the train arrived. All the staff greeted the passengers on arriving on the platform. One man helped an elderly gentleman with his cases and it genuinely was a pleasure to be on the station. It was also very clean and tidy with a lovely display on Platform 2. Other stations take note. You could learn a lot from the staff at Penrith.
