The initial phone call was very simple and I was able to schedule an appointment for an initial visit and cleaning and they also emailed the documents to complete prior to my visit so that I could be prepared beforehand. When we arrived, there was plenty of parking available outside. We were greeted by a friendly woman at the front desk and were able to quickly check-in and hang over our paperwork. The kids were able to play with the toys and they lit up once they saw the gaming space (one tv had Minecraft and the other had a Super Mario game.) Every single dental assistant and hygienist was VERY friendly and just so sweet and welcoming. They were so kind to my 3 year old daughter who joined me for the appointment and even included her (she has never been to a dentist just yet). Dr. Shoemaker is awesome! So bubbly and friendly, he came in and greeted us, started chatting with my son and instantly made him feel comfortable. We never once felt rushed or out of place. It was very warm and happy experience for both of my kiddos! My son's cleaning and exam was successful, then they allowed both kids to pick out a prize and even gave them balloons. They were ecstatic! Check-out was very simple and I was able to schedule our next appointments. They provide both text reminder and email reminder about appointments. Absolutely recommend 10/10. What a wonderful dentist office!

Great Expressions Dental Visits Below is a timeline of my…read morerecent experience with the Kennesaw office. Sunday, June 28, 8:00 a.m. I received the following text message: GEDC Dental Info: William Travillian has an appointment on July 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. at the Kennesaw office. Reply YES to confirm or NO for rescheduling information. Monday, June 29, 5:18 a.m. I replied: YES I then received a confirmation message stating that my appointment had been confirmed. Thursday I received another reminder stating that my appointment was scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. On Friday, July 3, I arrived at 7:45 a.m. and waited until 8:30 a.m. The office never opened, and the elevator was locked. I sent the following text message: I arrived for my appointment at 7:45 a.m. and waited until 8:30 a.m. No one showed up. Great Expressions responded with: No appointment found. I attempted to call the Kennesaw office several times but was unable to reach anyone to discuss what had happened. On Monday, July 6, I visited the office and spoke with your new office manager. I showed her the text messages that I had saved documenting the appointment confirmation and what had occurred. She explained that Great Expressions had experienced some scheduling problems and assured me that she intended to correct the issue so that it would not happen again. I was understandably disappointed by the situation. However, I was impressed with the way the office manager accepted responsibility and sincerely apologized. I will never fault someone for making an honest mistake if they acknowledge it and work to correct it. She rescheduled my dental cleaning for Tuesday, July 7, at 11:30 a.m. I arrived on time and had an excellent visit. I have nothing but compliments for the dental hygienist, dental assistants, and the dentist. Everyone I dealt with was friendly, professional, and competent. I could not have asked for better treatment. There was one remaining issue involving an unexpected $11 charge from a previous visit. The office manager explained that it appeared to be related to an insurance issue and said she would resubmit the claim to my insurance company. I always make it a point to pay any balance before leaving the office. If my insurance does not cover a service, I am normally informed during the visit and asked to pay the remaining balance before I leave. While requesting payment in the treatment room feels somewhat unusual to me, it does help ensure that accounts are paid in full before patients leave the office. Because of that process, I was surprised to learn that there was still an $11 balance from a previous visit. Since I always verify that my account is paid in full before leaving, I believe this was most likely an insurance processing issue rather than an unpaid balance. Hopefully, resubmitting the claim will resolve the matter. To summarize, I believe the dentist, hygienist, and clinical staff are outstanding and deserve recognition for the quality of care they provide. I believe the front office has room for improvement, but I am optimistic that the new office manager is taking the necessary steps to improve office operations and customer service. Overall, I would rate this office 6 out of 10. The clinical care is excellent, but the scheduling and administrative issues significantly affected my overall experience. I hope this evaluation is helpful. Thank you, William Travillian

We prioritize dental care and have consistently maintained regular visits and hygiene for our children since their first teeth appeared. However, during the visit, I was surprised and uncomfortable with comments made by the dentist regarding our family's infant feeding choices, especially given the fact that my son was well past the infant feeding stage and had/has no known oral hygiene or development issues. Specifically, I was told that formula feeding from a bottle was "unfortunate" and that "this practice likes our babies breastfed". While I understand there may be clinical reasons for discussing feeding and oral development, the delivery felt judgmental and inappropriate given the context and timing. I hope the practice considers a more sensitive approach when discussing personal family decisions with patients and gets a complete medical history from parents before making them feel ashamed for their feeding decisions.

DON'T go to Great Expressions Dental in Kennesaw if you can help it! They have recently changed…read moremanagement and they are totally disorganized and inefficient. In March 2024, my husband had an implant and a crown put in. Two weekends ago the crown fell off. They did not have an appointment available until today (7-10) because the only dentist they currently have was on vacation. We had a 3pm appointment and they called us yesterday to ask if we could make it at 2pm instead. We moved our schedule around and got there at 1:30, but didn't get to see the doctor until 3:10! What's more, all we wanted was to have the crown re-glued in. After all, we had paid $1682 above what our insurance paid! But, they said his real tooth had been filed too far and it broke off, so now they wanted to do another procedure which was going to cost us another $1,300+. I think this is ridiculous, because they should have figured out that the crown wasn't going to stay put in March before the procedure they performed then. We initially went to them because they are a provider for Kaiser DMO., but when they found out we also have Delta Dental PPO which paid them more, they wouldn't accept our Kaiser coverage. They also sold me on a different cosmetic procedure than what wanted because it was going to look better and be more economical, and after the work was done, they sent me an additional charge which ended up costing more than what I originally wanted and I was still unsatisfied with the results. Most of their staff and all the previous dentists and their assistants have left. The only general dentist is a Dr. McKay he and his new assistant are as rude as can be, and don't have a clue of how to treat patients. The place looks empty and desolate; as if they are going through financial troubles. As for me, I will never set foot in that building again. If you choose to do so, I hope you have better luck than we did... but I doubt it!

I am giving this office one star due to concerns regarding due diligence and billing integrity…read more After checking my daughter in for a routine cleaning, I was informed that there was a $51 balance remaining from her previous visit for a sealant. I explained that I had not been told at the prior appointment that the sealant was not covered by insurance. Because the receptionist was new, another staff member stepped in to assist. I was initially told that insurance companies sometimes list services as covered on their websites when they are not. I was then told the $51 was part of my deductible and that my insurance only covered 80% of the sealant. After receiving multiple explanations, I requested to review the actual paperwork to verify the information being provided. Once the paperwork was printed and reviewed, I was informed that the previous information was incorrect. It was clarified that the office is only permitted to bill my insurance a certain contracted amount, and the sealant was, in fact, covered. Had I not asked to see the documentation, I would have paid a balance that my insurance had already covered. Additionally, I never received a copy of the paperwork I requested. I strongly encourage parents and patients to review their billing statements carefully and request documentation when there are discrepancies. Transparency and accuracy in billing are essential, and patients should not have to advocate this hard to ensure they are being charged correctly.
