There is a…read morequality of restaurant to be found in Belgium that can't be found in the US (at least not at a comparable price.) We used to regularly frequent one in particular, until it got a Michelin star, which was good for them, but not as good for us as we could no longer afford to go there. Luckily we have found a replacement in the Fleur de Sel and I urge you to enjoy them before they too get a Michelin. I would say the quality of food at the Fleur de Sel is even better than our last favorite destination. Every plate is a beautiful work of art to the eye and a small symphony in the mouth. Within each course, every forkful is different, a variation on the theme. To keep with the theme of a symphony, this bite may have more violin, or that bite will have more brass, but each is a perfect harmony of flavor. We enjoyed a 6-course dinner with wine parings. Each wine was presented in both Flemish and English, with detail as to why it was the perfect pairing for the next course. The courses were presented with detailed introduction so we could enjoy the complexity of flavors we were experiencing. The experience was four hours of complete gastronomic bliss. I'll be looking forward to my next trip to Belgium to do it all again.

A lunch for 2 is about €60 and dinner for 3 was about €110 (just 2 glasses of wine, no bottle). Bottle of water was €8.50. Service is normal. The chef is friendly although his face-expression does not give You that impression at first. The blond woman who serves is not unfriendly but could do better.

Well basically the…read moreAbbey doesn't brew the beer anymore, so the draught beer isn't any better here than elsewhere. Food was just very basic (a lot of deep fried Dutch style). Had a cheese and salami plate but was def not the Abbey cheese. Not really much to recommend it other than the nice location (part of the Abbey) and the wine garden which is probably nice in Summer. Can't say it's worth a side trip.

A lunchtime crowd mostly enjoying their soup of the day, a very generous portion of mussel soup with all the accouterments, for an astonishing EUR 7.50 (take my word for it that make it a bargain anywhere in the EU). I ordered an ordinary omelette and got so much food I wasn't sure I could finish. Friendly staff and extremely pleasant dining room as well as an outdoor cafe (well... it is Europe after all, so maybe that is expected). So if you are in the area, stop there!
