I last rented a car from National Car Rental at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG)…read morenearly 7.5 years ago. This review is long overdue. I recently flew into YWG because my round-trip plane ticket was cheaper ($301) versus flying in and out of Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport ($1200). My plan was to fly into YWG and do a seven-hour road trip down to the Twin Cities, similar to what I did when I lived in Minnesota, but shaving off an hour from what I used to do going home to Rochester. With gas fill-ups, it was still cheaper. It was a time-money tradeoff. YWG is a small airport. Most National Car Rentals at airports have Emerald and Executive sets of lanes where you select your car, do a quick registration check-in, and leave. It's not the case here. You need to visit the car rental counter first. National, Alamo, and Enterprise are under the same Enterprise umbrella. I managed to get Jamar at the Alamo counter. He was personable, helpful, and friendly. He found my reservation. He let me know that Winnipeg has even more speed traps and photo radar cameras these days. His mom recently went over the speed limit by 10 km. A camera caught her speed and she had to pay $380. Yikes! We discussed what vehicles were available. I went with an SUV because I like sitting up high, which is a change from driving my beloved Toyota Corolla liftback. I rented a Volkswagen Taos, which I hadn't driven before. I got my keys and headed to the rental lot. I got another nice man there who directed me to aisle 4. I found my rental vehicle. I was pleased with its condition. I put my luggage, backpack, and me into the car. I was off and running. I drove a lot. My final mileage was 2,283 km. I absolutely enjoyed driving this vehicle. It was smooth and quiet. Android Auto worked well with my phone. What do I miss about this vehicle? The heated steering wheel. It's a luxury feature, but it means a lot when the temperature dips and you have a warm, hands-on driving experience. I fuelled this car a number of times. It was straightforward popping the gas panel with a button on the driver side and fuelling on the right side of this vehicle. Returning this vehicle was a breeze. You make a right turn just before the Courtyard Hotel. I got the nicest woman who made sure that I was happy with my rental experience. I returned this vehicle with a full tank of gas. I am fortunate to get a corporate discount renting vehicles with National. I had an excellent experience and am thrilled that my rental had unlimited mileage! (78)

I arrived in Winnipeg on Monday and had reserved an intermediate car from this Budget…read more The first annoyance was that there was no car available when I got there and I was told there would be a half hour wait. They knew I was coming, right? This happened when I rented from this Budget in August ... I had a wait. Plus I was told that because of many recalls of their cars, all they had available for me was a mini van. A mini van?! I said I didn't want a mini van as it's so big. I was told that I could either take the mini van or go elsewhere. I took the mini van but said I'm with Budget. The counter person gave me her manager's car and suggested I send an email of complaint.

I've been here numerous times in my life but most recently only just last week…read more The car rental counters in Winnipeg are across the arrivals drive from the terminal inside of the parking structure. While my Fast Break pick up was ready as ready can be and again the car granted was a Chrysler 300S (I just had one leaving Saskatoon) a couple hours before everything was as quick as quick can be on the pick up. Pickup was on a Tuesday and return was on a Thursday and arriving before 5 in the morning on return day basically there was nobody there at the returns or at the counter. At Saskatoon there was a chart to sign in with mileage and email address for the link to the receipt which was great but they didn't have that at the key drop box at Winnipeg. For Saskatoon I received the email link to the receipt pretty much when I arrived in Winnipeg basically just over an hour later (phone off in the plane) but I never received a receipt or link to the receipt in an email from this rental in Winnipeg. 5 days had gone by (Easter weekend) and I was checking my email to see if there was a receipt and still no so I ended up calling Budget in Winnipeg asking about that. I was told to simply get it off the website (which I'm familiar with) but I didn't know there was the option to get our receipts there but you have to log in to the RapidRez (website) to get it. That's fine I just found it sort of "not on the ball" like it was in Sask. Directing customers to get their receipt online well... seems kind of passing the buck to me. What if I didn't make the reservation as a preferred customer? I didn't even tell the person who answered who I was or give any information to them so they didn't necessarily know I had an online Budget account already. Basically I was being directed to the website to get something they should have been willing to provide to me which is a receipt for services. While for me it's simple and I'll most likely do that all the time moving forward, it wasn't the most polite way to tell a customer where to go to get what I was looking for. I like being a Fast Break member because it really saves time at every airport by being able to skip the lines and such and being loyal to Budget all these years has really worked out well but I truly believe if a customer is asking something especially something they are entitled to, please give them the time of day. Don't make assumptions of how savvy the customer base may be especially if you haven't even identified who you are speaking to. Pick up was a breeze, returning was simple enough, what little customer service interaction I had seemed dismissive like I was wasting their time. I didn't appreciate the feeling, just saying. Still, as a company Budget is great and the Fast Break program is definitely worth it. Between Toronto, Montreal, Quebec, Edmonton, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, San Francisco, Las Vegas and the list goes on, I've had very positive experiences with Budget as a whole especially in New York - LaGuardia (LGA) and Saskatoon (YXE).

**READ** (Second…read moretime posting this because I was forced to remove it by the manager Trinity McGuiness) Horrible experience, I would not recommend this place to anyone. Trinity the manager here is extremely disrespectful. She's rude, un-helpful, spoke bad about me on the phone (The male employee called her and had it on speaker phone.) She made me wait 30+ minutes while she was away from the store. When she got here she sped into the parking lot squealing her tires and abruplty parked. When coming inside she slammed the front door behind her, and stomped in behind the desk. She wouldn't listen to what I was asking and kept saying no without question. Super unprofessional and disrespectful. she needs a reality check on how to treat people. Part 2 (Second Interaction) I tried to re-enter the building to wait for someone to pick me up, Trinity came out the front door and the male employee locked it behind her. I asked if they were closing and she said no. I told her the door is not opening its locked, at that moment she confronted me about writing a negative review about her and called me a liar. (Both interactions are captured on camera.) She said she's not giving me a rental because I wrote a bad review about her and refused to give me a rental. She kept calling me a liar and escalading the situation. She continued to berate me about removing the negative google review. I was forced to remove it so I could be able to rent a vehicle. At that time she wouldn't let me into the building and left me stranded outside. During this interaction she called me untrustworthy, a liar and made me extremly uncomfotable. Never in my life have I ever had this type of experience with a manager. After the events of today I would not recommend anyone to do there business at this U-Drive. For Don Vito or the owner of U-Drive. The manager (Trinity McGuiness) at this establishment should not be in managerial position, she should be put under review and to be re-evaluated for her role as manager.
