    Avoid getting on this shuttle from airport.

    Beware you will be required to purchase their insurance at the counter before you can pick up a car. This same company offers Hertz, Avasa, Dollar, Thrifty, and Firefly car rentals. Prices for coverage are posted using a laminated flyer available for your review ONLY at the counter, so you can't even shop around ahead of time. Cheapest is $70USD/day for lowest coverage. THEY DO NOT ACCEPT insurance from your credit card (Amex, CSR, etc. which is what I usually use and have never had a problem getting accepted). Furthermore they want you to pay w a debit card otherwise you incur additional charges when paying them w a credit card. Booked and confirmed reservation for our rental fully online. I am told at the counter the insurance coverage offered online would not have been accepted anyway. Basically, YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF YOUR AS* AT THE COUNTER. We ended up abandoning the reservation in favor of a smaller local company recommended by a contact. Surprise, surprise: the same exact reservation came out cheaper than the total cost of Hertz insurance alone. BTW, calling Hertz is useless. Their best advice was to ask at the counter for them to place a note on the reservation to refund the insurance costs later. Not a snowball's chance in hell that's happening. Also witnessed three other parties go through the same dispute at the counter. Two caved. One of these did not receive the vehicle they'd reserved; they got manual instead of automatic. They get one star for observing COVID-19 safety precautions.

    Last December (2018) I reserved a SUV and they didn't have it, we ended up in a small Jetta with bags in our laps and they told us they will do a price adjustment , well they did it but charging us more !!!! I try to return the car and they keep saying that the manager was going to fix the rate ( I'm sure that the manager was the same dumb ass that was telling me that) . Don't rent here , insurance is doble that the car rent and doble than any other place ! They will rip you off !

    Worst place for a rental not only we got a different car from the one we picked. It was the only one . Bad service lots of paperwork to sign and they told me no need to bring the car full of gas. We charge you for the service, I was like awesome. Car they gave us didn't have power steering. Hub caps where with tie wraps which one few off with the storm this weekend. Brought the car back 3/4 of a tank and they still charge us extras. Another charge was made because the mat had sand. My rental was $200 pesos daily used it 2 days and I end up paying $535 u.s. that's insane I do not recommend this at all

    Firefly is a subsidiary of Hertz.  We had a terrible time with both companies.

    Worst experience ever. They will try to sell you insurance you don't need and they're ill trained on want the insurance actually covers.

Diego and his team were timely, reliable, efficient, cost-competitive, friendly and personified great service. They have my highest recommendation. The good service started when I contacted them just a few days before our trip. At first, Diego said they did not have any sedans available. But a cancellation opened up a rental later that same day, he promptly emailed me to let me know. Once we were in Merida, he brought the car to our hotel (the Hyatt), patiently and efficiently explained the details of the rental agreement and answered all of our questions without any rush. His English is not absolutely fluent, but certainly more than good enough for our purposes. The vehicle performed fine. Upon the completion of the trip, back at the Hyatt, he returned to the hotel to pick it up. The only minor glitch we had was that the GPS system for the car didn't always work great, with a couple of problems along the way. (We thus used our Googlemaps GPS on our phones more often; it was better, though not perfect.) When I mentioned this to Diego, he took the charge off of our bill. I wasn't asking for this, but appreciated it nonetheless. Two other minor matters were that the website does not seem to have an English option, though Google Translate works pretty well on it, and that it wasn't immediately clear whether a rental request using the online form was actually sent out to Unirent (though they replied promptly, either that day or the next, obviating that difficulty.) But really, these are trifling items. I wouldn't hesitate to rent from Unirent again, and wholeheartedly recommend the company.

She said to come the next morning and she would have 1 ready . I did a reservation with Expedia , went the next morning and she still said she did not have an auto available when we arrived . Someone was returning an auto as we were there and she still did not offer the vehicle . She just had a horrible attitude did not care at all . I had to call expedia to cancelled and went next door with national car rental . A much better service .

They lure you in with a very reasonable rate (remember the "too good to be true" adage then when you get there the spring the ridiculously expensive insurance. But it was late and we'd already paid for the car so . . . . what can you do? We just wanted to get our vacation started. NOT SO FAST! As we are driving out of the parking lot we notice the CHECK ENGINE light is on. When we pull back in the try to convince us that it was like the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light and just didn't get turned off when it was serviced. Called BS on that and they got us another car, albeit one with almost no gas. At least the told us we could bring it back that way. (Took a picture of the guage just to be safe but it was fine when we brought it back.) Drove it to the hotel with streetlights above us the whole way. (The previous sentence is important.) Was driving back from Uxmal a couple of days later we learned that the headlights were pointing so far down we had made 20 ft or so of visibility without the brights on. Fun! We didn't venture out of the city at night after that. We seem to learn at least one big lesson every vacation and this one was to always go with a well known car rental company . . . . even if we see what looks like a better deal! That being said, have a wonderful time in Merida. We did!

Once there, they made us wait 15 minutes. Then showed us that some supplementary coverage would be mandatory. The additional cost was around USD 50 per day. We decided to not take the car, and use Uber instead, which turned out to be much cheaper that way.

Most of the times we've had very pleasant experiences, and we even got an complimentary upgrade before. But this time, we had an issue with returning. We always returned our car at night to save 1 day rental. But this time we needed the car till late so we drove it to the airport before leaving Mérida. As the business hours indicate it opens at 7am. Our flight was departing at 8:10am. So we came to the main office at 6:35 am. (Which was even pushing) Of course no one is here except a security guy who knows nothing. He said we can leave the car and drop the key in their mail box, but how do we get to the terminal?!?! Not to mention we had my 75year old mother-in-law with us who walks slowly. So after checked in, there was an employee at the counter so we told him we brought the car here. His answer was we have to return it to the office. (Already 7:05am and still have to go through immigration.) He kept saying rudely "This is not a return location." How do we make it to our flight then? This company is a world wide company and should know how flights work, 24/7!!! We saw Avis already open when we drove by. The employee considered no deviation. So we paid the parking and just gave him the key, and told him to take care of it. When we got to the gate, they had already started boarding. We barely made it!! This is not the way to treat your most loyal customers. They used to give us a pass to leave the car at the terminal so why no more?!?!?! Just not acceptable. So we wanted all the people to know before you make a reservation with National here. Also last time we went to their office at ADO station on Calle 60, they were closed over 30 minutes before said office hours. Pretty much local way, but they really need to polish their business manner here. It was such an unnecessary stress to start our trip.

These scumbags (besides the shuttle driver) are true con artists and honestly should be investigated heavily not only by Budget but the police as well. I cannot wait to get home and absolutely sink this establishment and go full Karen on corporate. I rent cars often and in many cities, I have never seen anything like what these crooks try to pull. The two women who run this joke of an establishment should be ashamed of themselves. Quite honestly, I do not know how they sleep at night. Save yourself a headache and rent from a reliable company like Enterprise (fantastic experience there). Budget - do not even bother to attempt to respond to me on here acting like you will do something. I have contacts that you don't even have (pretend owner responding to other reviews) and I plan on using them to help any potential new customers you have. When I arrived, I was told it was inoperable and that I would have to rent something else. I ended up getting a Kia SUV at the rate of $100 per day The vehicle was great and the service was wonderful at the budget rental center. They were all very nice people. I ended up spending a lot more money than what I intended to and ended up wishing I had rented from somewhere else. I don't appreciate bait and switch!!
