We had plenty of time, so we looked around the Mercantile. I was a bit disappointed in the merchandise that was displayed for sale. It was also, very expensive. We then went upstairs to the bakery. I purchased a couple of cookies for my husband which he said were good. When our lunch reservation was available, we were seated quickly. The service was a bit slow after being seated, considering the place was not packed with people. The biscuits and jelly that were brought to the table were delicious. Unfortunately, that was the best part of the meal. We ordered soup and a grilled cheese. I choose the tomato soup which was not soup. It was the consistency of tomato paste and tasted like it had been poured from the can, with a little bit of sherry and cheese on the top. Not only was it bitter, but it was also cold. One of my friends asked to exchange her tomato soup for the chicken tortilla soup. She said it had no seasonings and was cold. As for the grilled cheese, well it was not good at all. It had no taste to it, and it was not hot at all, which made it dry. I had to put salt on the outside to give enough taste to the sandwich in order to eat it. I was so disappointed as I had been telling my friends how wonderful the place was going to be. Would I return?
