Then they didn't serve us our dessert until we asked for it a second time because they thought we were too full (I suppose Norwegians normally order the right amount of food, and maybe it is not normal to save leftovers). After spending the day looking at naked statues, appreciating Nobel peace prizes, and walking on the opera house rooftop, Jamie W. and I were tuckered out and didn't want to venture too far from our hotel. We just walked across the street and found a table quite easily here even though it was obviously quite popular with young Oslolites (...is that what they're called?). We were pretty famished since it was a long time since the complimentary breakfast buffet at the hotel. Not a bad thing just lots of dark wood and dark leather chairs. I ordered the steak Smorgasbord, which I now know is an open face meat sandwich. It was great. It was not too large but the perfect size for lunch and not wanting to get bogged down while walking the tourists sights. The steak was tender but properly cooked. Smothered in onions and gravy and accompanied by a small salad. Delicious and filling. A definite comfort food. The waiter/bartender was very helpful and super friendly. Fluidly switching between English Norwegian and German, that I heard. Seems to be a mix of locals and tourists. However, the restaurant does holds true to the grain free and gluten free concept of paleo. Food was very good. Additionally - a side of beets was served for the entire table which was also part of the meal but not on the menu, so pleasant surprises. The food was delicious, everyone licked their bowl clean. The prices are to be expected in Oslo. I bought a bottle of wine, a starter, entre and dessert for $130 ( everything was for one person). Note - this is not a set menu but there are options for that. There is also an English menu - forgot to take a picture of it. Service was great, our waitress continually checked in on us and even though it was closing time, she still asked if we wanted another bottle of wine. Due to the good experience with dinner, we decided to come back for the breakfast buffet which I highly recommend. That may technically have been their interpretation, but it was completely different from the recommendation we had originally received. We honestly felt trapped into paying far more than expected.
