Came home on Tuesday from a long day of working (exploring more coffee shops!) to a terrible smell…read morein my apartment. It smelled like burning plastic...or a major electrical problem. Scary stuff for sure! Called the BF - he was equally concerned, but was in a meeting all the way in Chesterfield. Wouldn't be home for an hour or so. Called the landlord and he sent someone over to check. We examined every appliance in the apartment and couldn't find the source of the smell. And it was getting worse... So he called the Fire Department. Before you know it, three fire trucks descended upon our little apartment on Cherokee Street. Fifteen fire men examined our apartment, top to bottom. One of them even had a handy dandy heat detector that sees through walls to determine if there's a fire about to happen. They didn't find anything, but I give them credit for taking the time to do a thorough exam. They certainly could have ripped up our hardwood floors or dry wall, but that seemed a little silly since we didn't know where the smell was coming from. After about an hour, they left. But before leaving, they assured us that it was OK to call back at any time and they'd be there in minutes. It was a scary night for sure, wondering if our place would burst into flames. We had our winter coats, a fire extinguisher and a change of clothes near our bed, just in case the smoke alarms went off. But the smell seems to have dissipated and it made us feel better to know that professionals had examined our apartment and thought we would be OK. Happy to know that our tax dollars aren't going to waste in the City!

Every year during fire prevention week, they have an open house where they invite the community in for food, bounce house, face painting and more. They are so great about teaching fire safety to children in a way that makes them understand. I could not feel more lucky and safe to have such an amazing fire department protecting me. Thanks so much guys!!!

Good ole Eugene. You ever been to a town where you just wonder what happened? How is that building…read morestanding? What did that cow just eat? How many tires has this road popped? Eugene is one of the finest. Market St will lead you down a pothole filled road past some structures that look like they'll fall down at the next strong wind. Eugene has some of the most run-down houses and beautiful house right beside each other. If you drive around Eugene, you'll see many picture perfect images. Surrounded by bluffs, rivers filled with old cars, cow pastures and the party high schoolers are throwing, Eugene is a picture perfect old town.

I called them asking when we could set up an appointment and the person I spoke with encouraged me to come up whenever we wanted. Five minutes later, we were in the car, ready to go. It took them approximately 5 minutes to install it securely, fill out the necessary paperwork, and inspect it. They worked quickly and were friendly throughout. I hope I never have to call upon them for the services they're really around to offer, but I'd feel pretty confident if I had to. Only complaint (and this is just because I'm a freak about this kind of stuff) - on the website, on the Contact Us page there is a huge typo. It says "If THEIR is an emergency, please call 911." Yikes. Get that fixed. People who are saving you from burning buildings should know the there/their/they're rule.
