I moved into one of the apartment complexes managed by Heritage in 2014. My property manager, at the time, was Robin. She was great if there were any issues with the apartment. She retired and then the company went consistently downhill after that. Their website quit working, so you couldn't file a maintenance request on-line. Tenants had to call the office to report a problem. The managers, after Robin, went from bad to worse. One property manager tried to charge me a late fee on my rent because she was too stupid to understand their own bookkeeping system. I lived there for 10 years and NOT ONCE did I ever pay my rent after the first of each month. I had to pull copies of the checks and go to their office to show that idiot I always paid my rent on the first. Usually, I signed a one year lease, up until this year. By signing a year's lease, they would raise your rent every other year. Last year, when I signed my lease, I had a $25 per month increase. I had planned to sign another year's lease this year and normally, would not have another increase. But, my property manager, Denise, didn't give me the option of signing another year's lease. I was only given the option to sign a month to month lease with an increase of another $50 per month. She made the "assumption" that I wasn't all that happy living there and could move out, if I wanted to, without being tied to another year lease. Having just retired this year, I was planning to sign another year's lease. When I went to their office, she lied to me about the lease (or lack thereof) and the increase in rent. In the years I lived there, I installed a $150 oak medicine cabinet in the bathroom since there was no place to put daily used items. I replaced the light fixture in the same bathroom because their original fixture was old and kept burning out light bulbs. The fixture I bought was $80. I bought vertical slats for the living room blind since two were missing when I moved in. I put new knobs on the closet doors since their cheap plastic knobs were broken. I also paid for a gallon of paint to match their walls so I could fill any holes I put in the walls when I hung pictures. I left that there. Needless to say, I had had enough of their poor management and lack of upkeep of their apartments, so I purchased my own place once I was retired. I paid rent through the month of August, but moved out by 8/11/25. I spent one day cleaning the entire apartment and will be expecting my full deposit no later than 9/30/25. Otherwise, I will see them in Small Claims court and will charge them for the improvements I made during the time I lived there. I would never recommend renting any property that this company manages. read more
