(4th review of 2022) Wifey & I love this park! It's wide open & paved trails around the lake. People that frequent the park are nice. We laugh every time we go there when it's freezing cause we see all the rocks scattered on the top of the ice on the lake. I guess people try to toss rocks on the frozen lake to find out how big & how far they can toss the rock. Hahaha. I'm kinda tempted to try that the next time. They do have an area by the entrance of the parking lot where you can pile up real Christmas trees after the holidays. Not sure what they do with them afterwards, but it's cool that they have a drop off area. When we dropped off our 2.5' tree there was at least a 5' high & 15' wide pile. I was laughing cause our dinky lil tree was so manini (small) compared to the others that were about 6-8' tall. Aside from the trails & Christmas tree drop off, this is a perfect parking lot to learn to drive in snow... as I found out the hard way. Hehehe... nervous giggling. Super pretty. There's a lake, golf course, disc golf, sports courts, and plenty of walking trails. Plenty of shelters, well-maintained bathrooms, and trash cans that are hardly ever overflowing. Got to even attend a wedding ceremony here which was so fun being next to a little pond and playground so you get kids could have a little more entertainment. read more

Heritage Park is pretty great for a variety of reasons: it's HUGE, it has tons of walking/hiking paths, it has a massive soccer complex, and honestly there is likely even more I haven't explored. It's pretty far south, so plan to drive even if you live in central JOCO like me - it's a solid 25 mins. It's convenient for me to visit when I'm out near my parent's new house though so that's a perk and has been what brings me here on occasion. A few years ago we also did soccer here and honestly I'd recommend doing soccer elsewhere. Parking is horrible and it's kind of a cluster. Overall the park itself is nice and fun to explore, but up to you on if it's worth the drive. read more

This is specifically regarding the Dog Park at Heritage Park: Recently renovated, so it's still a little muddy in spots, but overall a great dog park with tons of open space for pups to run. The new paved sidewalk around the park is a nice upgrade, and there are plenty of doggy bag stations and trash cans (just wish more people would use them). There's a retention pond that dogs love to splash in, though I've heard it may be removed soon. Bathrooms are decent, and there's a water fountain for both people and pets. I also like that there's a separate, fully paved area just for dogs under 25 lbs. Most of the owners I've met here have been friendly and attentive, which makes the park feel safe and welcoming. Overall, a solid spot that keeps getting better with each update. read more

I spent a weekend here for a baseball tournament. It's a neat, sprawling complex. The ball park sits in the back of the park, and you cross over a dam to enter the complex. There are four fields, and there are NO BLEACHERS! That is just crazy for teams traveling, there are no places to sit, except a couple picnic tables. There is hardly any shaded areas either. I will say aside from the bsaeball area, there are a lot of places to play, and the walking trail around the small lake is beautiful. Don't speed! We saw two cars get pulled over by some park police. read more

My favorite sister-in-law told me about this park. I think all of the parks I've been to in KCK are great, there's nothing like them back home, but this one is my favorite. I like that it's easy to find, has a nice path around the lake for exercise, a golf course, a lot of places to reserve for parties, sports fields, electric vehicle charging stations, and the off the leash dog park. The people who come here are friendly and for the most part clean up after themselves and their dogs. read more

Bring Luke here 4-5 x a week. Great space, not overcrowded, and only experienced one aggressive dog. Used to go to S.M. Park dog park when I lived over there, but last time I was there, it was insane! Way too many people/dogs, and several aggressive dogs that the owners were letting behave this way. So glad to have Heritage Park right down the street from me! Only downside is the pond. It is just stagnant water. read more

This is a great place to run, walk, stroll, etc. it's easy to access and there is always plenty of parking. My running club meets here occasionally and there is a lengthy asphalt trail that leads in and out of the park. I've never had a bad experience here. always felt safe. read more

I love this dog park. It's huge and can accommodate every type of dog - those who chase balls, those who want to explore and hunt animals and those who enjoy the water. It's huge and can take 30 min or more to do a full lap if you take your time. The park was recently closed for two weeks to do updated to the pond (see photos). They tore down a lot of beautiful vegetation and did fix the major problem, the muddy entrance to the main portion of the pond most dogs use. The rocks they added are also pretty jagged and large - I fear it could cause damage to some pups and was not as positive of an improvement as visitors would have hoped. However, the biggest negative are the humans who come to this park. Many don't pay attention to their dogs and more than I can count fail to pick up after their dogs. In fact, on more than one occasion I've watched people observe their dog taking a dump and keep right on walking. I believe they think this is ok, and are too oblivious to pay attention the the dog bag holders or trash bins. Most likely they don't realize that it's there specifically for THEM to use (because it's really for someone else). I just don't understand, although this seems to be the running trend for dog parks in the greater south Kansas City area. Note to the humans: please pick up after your dogs wherever you are. read more

Wow!!! They have done some work to the dog park and I have to bump it back up to 5 stars. So far this year we have not encountered any issues with owners who have dogs that shouldn't be at the park. We do try to avoid the dog park during peak hours for this reason. Some people just don't get it. The have added much needed trash cans around the walking path. Previously they only had them at the entrance areas. I your dog left a little poo, you had to walk around the park with it. I think this left people not so willing to do the right thing and clean up after little Fido. Now with cans placed throughout the park, this should make a difference. One more would be great at the southwest area of the trail. They added a new bench about half way around the walking trail from the entrance. This is a great stopping point for anyone needing a break while taking a trip around the huge park. The new fence line is well maintained and holding up greatly. My experience here is mostly with the dog park. The few times visiting other areas have always been nice. This is a young park with trees that have yet to mature and plenty of open spaces to enjoy some frisbee or football. There is a nice little pond that people are always fishing at. I am not sure what the fishing is like though. They have ball parks and a golf course. It is a nice park to just go for a nice Sunday drive through. If you have a dog check out the dog park here, still the best I have been to. read more

It is hard to find a good park with natural wildlife and fauna in Kansas but this one is great. This park has one main trail around the lake with several trails that off shoot the main trail. There is an island in the middle of the lake that you can walk to and have a picnic on or just look at the lake. Birds, turtles, fish, bats, and other wildlife is prevalent through out the park. Several activities are abound as well, like playgrounds fishing and paddleboat rentals. I highly recommend this park if you are in the area. read more

I love this park. Let me just say, I didn't actively look for a house near this park, but the house we ended up with had major bonus points for being less than a mile from here. I come here at least twice a week. I have a six mile loop I run with 3 of those miles through the park. The traffic is very bike and pedestrian friendly. There are lots of cops driving around, always friendly to me, make me feel safe. The lake is big, about 1.25 mile circumference around it. The roads are nice and well maintained. The playgrounds look like a lot of fun. The disc golf course is great. The dog park is great. It is huge. I like it better than Shawnee Mission Park because the people seem friendlier and the park is one huge field, with about a .80 mile circumference to walk around. My wife and two dogs visit the park once a week. The pond is not that great. Dogs always smell like pond water. If you're looking for a great water spot, then I would recommend SMP. If you want to just let your dogs run and play with other big dogs, Heritage is your place. The dog poop isn't out of control either. That's nice. read more

So I would've given 5 stars but the concession stand closed. Our second game was at 3pm and the heat index as in the 90s. I understand we have Covid 19 going on and it's hard to plan anything with things constantly changing but drinks would keep. So the kids are playing a hot game and we couldn't go to concession stand to get cold water or Gatorade. Would've been nice it they would've stayed open to sell drinks even if the food was out. read more

Pond water gave my dog Giardia & Hookworms!! I LOVED this park because it is huge and my pup had so much room to roam free. Cannot come back now because after drinking a couple sips of the dirty water, had to take a trip to the vet! Please be careful if your dog swims! If you go just stay clear of the pond, and experience will be great!! read more

This is a rating for the Dog Park only. I can understand how some could be frustrated with the size of this park, especially with a dog who struggles with commands, but I find that to be one of it's great assets. In so many communities, a dog park is nothing more than a fenced in rectangle with simply room to run. We are very lucky in JoCo, that the dog parks are more than that. They are large open spaces, with natural surroundings that allow for exploring and adventures, in addition to the typical socializing for our canine friends. This park has a very large gravel path circling the entire park, but also several smaller trails through the wooded areas, through small creeks, and dense woods. The addition of the water fountains and bathroom facilites have only improved what was already a great place to burn that doggie energy, and big enough for good human exercise as well. Be sure to really check your pooch for ticks after playtime, as they seem to be particularly thick this summer. read more

I'm only reviewing the dog park here. So if you're looking for a review of the rest of the amenities, you won't find it here. In a city with very few fenced in dog parks, Heritage park is king. Yes, it's pretty far out there but wow. Seriously. This place is huge. There's a nice walking trail that'll take you around the perimeter of the park. And there's a small pond on the north end for those water-loving dogs. Mine doesn't like the dew on the grass in the morning to touch his precious paws, so the pond is not on our list. This is the only dog park I've been to in KC that has virtually no mud. It can get a little bare around the entrance gate areas because of the water fountains, but other than that it's all grass. Also, because it's so huge, during peak busy times you still have plenty of room to roam and run without stumbling into a dog pack. And there are bathrooms! For people! Real bathrooms...not Port-a-Potties! One small warning as you walk around the path on the pond side. There are a couple of eroded away areas that drop right into the pond. My dumb dumb dog wasn't paying attention and almost slid down into the water. Which would have been a catastrophe in his eyes. Is it bad that I laughed at the look of panic in his eyes when he thought he was doomed? This dog park is amazing. I couldn't ask for more. p.s. Make sure your pooch has flea protection. Mr. High Maintenance comes home sometimes with a few stragglers. But since he gets regular flea medication, they don't spread and are harmless. read more

Nice layout, greens were smooth and fast. Fun course to play. Late in the season so the fairways were dormant but still easy to hit off of.

This review is for the dog park only. Coming from LA and DC, I am in love with this dog park. It is seriously huge! And for those who may have mentioned that it's hard to keep a dog under wraps in a park this size, I'd like to make an observation: The large size makes the dogs get along phenomenally. If I could bold, highlight, and italicize I would, but it seems yelp has wisely not added those features. We have been several times to this park and have found the owners to be attentive and the dogs to be well-socialized. It is a great place to take your dog for positive interactions with other dogs, to wear them out, and to get a bit of exercise yourself. Sure, there aren't a ton of trees, but wear sunscreen, a hat, and bring some water and you'll be fine. Also there is grass. At a dog park. I have never seen this phenomena before, but I like it! One last bit (and the reason it's a 4-star review), occasionally we'll see small children at the dog park. While I can understand parents wanting to bring children, in a large dog park like this, where the dogs can and do wander far from their owners, it is likely not the best idea to have children under five tottering around. Don't get me wrong, the toddlers are super cute, but cats are cute too and you'd never bring one of those to a dog park. Parents, you do not know whether or not all of these off leash dogs are tolerant of children, so keep the kids at home, or, at the very least, contained in a wagon like I've seen some smart-thinking parents do. read more

This park is LARGE. No doubt. However, the lake wasn't very impressive. It looked man made. I didn't see any paddleboats or rentals. The fishing seemed limited. The guys fishing there said it used to be good, but was overfished and now there isn't much to catch. Wildlife. Didn't see anything other than lots of bugs. Didn't see any birds or squirrels even! There was one trail which was in the "woods" and had some shade. The rest of the park is open to the sun and has few trees providing cover. On a typically warmer/bright day, more cover is appreciated. The park seemed to have a lot of shelter/picnic areas or where you could have your pickup games. The football area was large and this abuts a golf course. I wasn't impressed at all. Is it good for walking, biking, or running sure. However, it seriously lacks trees. It's far too open. Odd thing though, we drove all around it and walked quite a bit. Never found anything that matches the photo on this review. read more

Beautiful, large, park with paved trails and a big lake. There are pavilions (at least 5), so it's a good place to host an event. I was here for a 5K and I had relatively little trouble finding the correct spot to register and run. There was a biker there, too, so I assume the trails go pretty far. I'm glad I went out of my way to come here, I will definitely return! read more

This is a great dog park. They keep it well maintained and the folks that go there are friendly. There is a walking trail that goes all the way around, with several path to choose from. For bigger dogs, there is a lake and seating area by the lake. In the summer warmer months, they offer fresh water to the animals. There are bathrooms at the park, which are usually clean. read more

This is one of the area's larger dog parks. It's 30 acres compared to 55 acres at Shawnee Mission Dog Park. This is a nice park with a gravel walking trail that goes around the perimeter. However, unlike Shawnee MIssion where there are lots of wooded trails, there are very few trees. It's more of a large field. Also, if your dog likes to swim, the dog beach at Shawnee Mission Park is better. Heritage Park's pond is small and typically has a green scum layer on top. But as the area's dog parks go, this is large, open, and well maintained. read more

This review is about the dog park only which is HUGE and has plenty of room for your four legged companion to roam. We have an English bulldog that we take here quite regularly and about one lap around the park and she is ready for bed! I really like the different areas of this dog park as well. There is an area of wooded trails to walk, a wide open area to the big dogs to play fetch and also a small pond for the retrievers to swim (Our bulldog likes to watch the other dog splash in the water but she never goes in). Usually busy but never crowded this is a great place to spend a Saturday morning while getting your dog and yourself a little exercise. read more

My dog loves this place. It is huge. She gets a workout when we go there because the perimeter is .89 miles. I love it because it is well maintained. The people here are very friendly. I also enjoy the fact that it has a pond. If it's hot out, she can dip in and cool off. It's wide open. Definitely worth the drive! read more

This is a great park. we recently moved here from NJ. I love the dog park. Yes it is large, but a responsible pet owner works with their dog to get them to obey commands. We have a young scent hound and it takes repetition and reward to get them to understand commands. Yes, there aren't alot of trees, you are in Kansas. read more

We love this dog park! We take our chocolate lab puppy to Heritage Dog Park at least 3 times a week. Everyone is very nice and they keep the park well maintained. My kids love running back on the trails with my dog. I'm so glad we only live 5 minutes away. Fabulous place! read more
