The best part is the Drill and Play is with Coach Meredith. She's a truly excellent coach. It's a small session, limited to 12 players. You have to sign up through the AGAPE website. These Drill and Play sessions are set up so higher skilled players play one week, lower skilled players the next. The first hour every session is spent practicing a specific skill. Coach Meredith is a gifted teacher. She always breaks down the skill into bite sized chunks so it's easier to master. Like, for example, first practicing just the footwork itself, no ball or paddle. Then adding them on one at a time. After allowing adequate time to individually practice whatever skill is being taught, we play games the rest of the first hour without keeping score. Not worrying about the score gives one the opportunity to practice skills not yet fully mastered. The second hour is regular play. Coach Meredith circulates continuously, pumping everyone up with her positive energy and emphatic vocal encouragement, all the while providing further insight and/or instruction where necessary. This is a really beautiful park and wonderful place to play pickleball. Someone mentioned that the courts were recently resurfaced. Nice! Mikey C says: did I mention the adequate parking? Tons of room for a big dog to run under and through the trees, as well as an enormous open field without trees. The best element of this park is 1. The size which allows space for you to have your own area to yourself. For instance, I like to have my dog run large spans to chase the ball, but the park is frequented by other dog walkers, yet thanks to the spaciousness they can easily keep a great distance and have their own area to play without our dogs' play areas overlapping. Or overlapping with people playing a game of soccer. The 2nd best element is how well maintained the park is. This is the first park of its size that isnt covered in huge dirt and mud patches for my dog to get filthy in. Nice and grassy. And not crowded. Quiet and shockingly private. The equipment is new and I love that it is covered by a huge umbrella shade so that the apparatus doesn't get too hot. They do have a funky swing set which took me a while to figure out, but basically it's a 2-person swing where the baby sits in one seat and the adult can sit in front of the baby vs having to stand and keep pushing. There is also bathrooms and picnics tables on site (can be rented) which makes this a nice place for parties. There seemed to be an organized dog training class here on Saturday with a good group of dogs and owners and orange cones set up.
