The best part is the Drill and Play is with Coach Meredith. She's a truly excellent coach. It's a small session, limited to 12 players. You have to sign up through the AGAPE website. These Drill and Play sessions are set up so higher skilled players play one week, lower skilled players the next. The first hour every session is spent practicing a specific skill. Coach Meredith is a gifted teacher. She always breaks down the skill into bite sized chunks so it's easier to master. Like, for example, first practicing just the footwork itself, no ball or paddle. Then adding them on one at a time. After allowing adequate time to individually practice whatever skill is being taught, we play games the rest of the first hour without keeping score. Not worrying about the score gives one the opportunity to practice skills not yet fully mastered. The second hour is regular play. Coach Meredith circulates continuously, pumping everyone up with her positive energy and emphatic vocal encouragement, all the while providing further insight and/or instruction where necessary. This is a really beautiful park and wonderful place to play pickleball. Someone mentioned that the courts were recently resurfaced. Nice! Mikey C says: did I mention the adequate parking? Pitts Ranch Park has it!
