The center downtown is excellent and I was surprised how it appealed to the geek in me. My first impression was the cost of parking in the museum garage, it's pricey but otherwise you have to get lucky with street parking. Inside the building for the first time required a few minutes to sort out the menu of options to visit with each priced separately. You can select what interests you outside of the main permanent exhibits. You want to dedicate several hours to really explore the vast displays on multiple floors. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable offering incredible details and science behind many of the exhibits. The Houston Museum of Natural Science is certainly one of the best when compared to any like museum, anywhere.

Something to add to your list if your in the area or willing to drive a few hours (DFW), it's worth it. I do see people mentioned the food is pricey... there are so many places close by if you want other options. Staff seemed pretty happy to be there, they are big on pitching the souvenir photo sales.

One all-day ticket was a little over $30. I went midweek, it wasn't overly crowded despite being a Summer day. You can get your picture taken as you enter, the photos are available for purchase upon entering. I saved the samples on my phone, there's watermarks, but I'll make My experience of witnessing the collection of NASA astronaut suits, prototypes, and rockets at SCH will forever stay with me. I took a free tram tour to the astronaut training facility on the NASA campus and saw a few projects in development. Afterwards, I went to Rocket Park and observed the Saturn rocket. It's MASSIVE and incredibly impressive. I made my way back to SCH's main building and picked up a cold brew at Grounds Control a cute coffee shop inside a NASA food hall. Next, I saw a film called Moonwalkers inside SCH's large screening room. The room was filled with wall-to-wall light effects and imagery! Lastly, I bought loads of NASA merch like shirts, hats, magnets, and pins. The front lobby has incredible medallions, I bought one of each.

I usually go with friends or family, and it's always such a nice experience. I love the atmosphere. There's something about walking around, taking your time with the artwork, and just enjoying the space. I've also randomly met some of the greatest and most interesting people while we're all just there checking out the art. Whether you're really into art or just looking for something enjoyable to do in Houston, MFAH is absolutely worth visiting. It's one of those places that reminds me how much Houston has to offer.

The Frida collection was extremely popular and that's where most of the museums visitors spent their time. Overall I really enjoyed my experience here and wish I had more time to explore. They do have several dining options at the museum including a Michelin star French restaurant, Le Jardinier. The menu looks great and looks like they had a lunch 2 course option there for $45.

The artists had no boundaries as they sawed designs into the body of the house: through door frames and into the floor, ceiling, and bathroom. It is really quite a site to behold. It no longer has regular open hours, so to visit you will need to contact inquiries@cherryhursthouse.com. I just happened to contact them the day before they held another open house, so I was lucky enough to see it the very next day. Be warned, there are a few fans but if you visit in the summertime it is HOT! I heard they may not open back up until August because of this, but I'm really not sure on that front. Very cool spot that makes you think outside the box, or "house" in this case!

So here's the thing, I'm really torn on how to rate this place. This is my conundrum: I'm all about…read moresupporting local historical landmarks (especially when I know they're run on peanuts). I see immense value in the upkeep of these places and I know they bring value to the community. The problem with this place is it just kind of sucked as a "museum". There was really no rhyme or reason to the "artifacts" it was a motley crew of random odds and ends that locals had donated. Even the woman working (although I bet she just volunteered), didn't have a lot of info or insight on the displays. There were some random tea pots, a display with some NASA posters, an old Chinese robe, and some ceramic buildings. According to the plaque outside this spot had been the location for a pretty cool archeological find but I didn't see that very prominently displayed inside. The high point was probably just walking around this old church which had been built in 1901 (I'm pretty sure on the date but could be off). It was really gorgeous for being so tiny. There's a small chapel to the left as you walk in and the right is where the displays are, in what probably served as a hall. The building can be rented out for events. Price of admission is free and donations are accepted. If you're even mildly interested in history and old buildings and you happen to be in the area I'd definitely recommend stopping by for a few minutes (trust me, a few minutes is all you'll need). Just keep your expectations semi-low and you might be pleasantly surprised.

A few more crazy people like us came after awhile and eased our nerves. It seems most people give a quick walk around the tower and then leave. Unfortunately, there was no battleship on the property as some other sites and reviews mention. That was a bummer, I would have gladly paid to take a look at that piece of history. That was kind of the ticket I used to get my family here, so once they figured out there wasn't a boat here, we packed up the car and left. Still a great piece of history that holds a special place in the heart of Texans (and the nation) everywhere. I most appreciated the logistics of the space -- ample parking, well-maintained bathrooms, working A/C, clear indicators of where all the booths were located, and even clear annoucements letting us know when the mechanical bull was ready to be challenged! The subtle interior design was a mix of an industrial concrete playgrounds meets adult Nickelodeon with fun, frenzy galore and highlighting community artists generously. I am so happy I finally got around to visiting and look forward to returning to attend one of their community workshop classes!
