The store is absolutely SPOTLESS with good clearly labeled, prices visible , shelves dusted, stock rotated. Ample selection of teas, coffees, variety of basmati rice, nuts, sweets and a refrigerated section included halal meats. Oh... AND afghan and Pita bread ! They also offer some European cookies- my husband is British and this is where we buy our McVities biscuits! You can also purchase beautiful coffee and tea sets and other unique and decorative goods. The owners are on hand to answer any questions, make suggestions and are very customer focused. They accept SNAP and offer delivery to customers. If your curious about experimenting with food from These cultures, go in and explore! I highly recommend the cardamom tea and the Afghan bread ! The prices are very fair, and again, the cleanliness of the store and variety of goods is beyond compare ! It's part of my regular shopping rounds now!

Backstory: I've been shopping at another market just a few yards down the street, where the family has been incredibly friendly and carry Iranian groceries. When they opened, they called their small market Star Bazaar and the female owner was always so incredibly kind. Although she's not Iranian, she would always joke with me and help me practice Farsi while I shopped for food to make my partner. She was always curious about what I was cooking and shared tips and tricks. Fast forward to this month, and I realized she had fewer products and very little business. I was told a new market opened down the street, and not only is her customer base switching there, they basically took their business name! I had to investigate, so I drove seconds down the street to this business, Super Star Bazaar. Now, while I will mention this market is new, recently remodeled, and carries many of the same products...it definitely doesn't carry the same level of customer service or friendliness that I experience at Star Bazaar. There wasn't an attempt to speak to me although we were the only ones in the store, and the products were priced higher than the items I buy down the street at Star Bazaar. Overall, I was able to find a product I really needed for a dish I was making today and I did purchase it, but felt guilt in the process. They do carry Sadaf Brand and hard to find items. Owners, please consider changing your store name. There are dozens of options.

So I'll give fair warning, I'm a cultural tourist at these kinds of places, obviously not their…read moreeveryday market. That being said, Jerusalem Halal Market is awesome! There is a glass door directly in from House of Hummus so it's as if you're being compelled in the entire time you are eating "Cooome! Come look at the shiny things!" Okay, okay, I'M GOING! Being that I came in from House of Hummus side I was directly distracted by the tea and coffee pots, and the cafe sets. Really beautiful! The back section of the store is more of a home goods section where one can buy rugs, scarves, cookware, and various decorations. In the middle there are consumables such as spices, teas, dates (dates for days!), sauces, rice (really big bags of Basmati!), and the like. To my surprise they had what I think of as more British specific goods, such as HP sauce and Mars Bars. To my joy Jersusalem Halal Market carries my favorite brand of small pita, and big arse ones which are delivered freshly baked twice a week. The freezer and refrigerator cases are well stocked- so much cheese! And lamb! And goodness! The best thing I picked up on the day I visited was the mint tea. It's very simple but is some of the best mint tea I've had for a while. It was like heaven in a cup once I got home and made some. Appearance the store is well lit, has good space between the aisles, and is clean. Most of the labels are in English and the goods are competitively priced. I will happily revisit!

Having just moved to Hertel, Jerusalem Halal has been part of a fun voyage of discovery for us…read more It's chock full of Middle Eastern standards (fava beans, couscous, lentils, whole cumin, etc.) things that may or not be standards (these truly delicious wild cucumber pickles, olives in hot sauce), and then cool things like silver tea sets and shisha pipes that I'll enjoy looking at but probably never buy. You could, of course, get better prices on the beans and grains by going to the big box stores, but c'mon, where's the fun in that? If you prefer a funky neighborhood standard next to a hummus joint (almost certainly owned by the same folks) to the comforts of the international foods aisle at Wegman's, and you want your flatbread a whole lot fresher, JHM is the place to be. I like it and I'll be back.

I really needed Indian food ingredients and ordering online is just not nearly as fun. So I went. Couple points I will agree with~ - some of the items are "expired" and some - not majority-- of the produce items were likely not something I'd get unless I was cooking today. With all that being said you'll see I still chose 5 stars and here's why. - everything I needed to make 3 Indian recipes they had. And it was all within date range by a year plus. One item (aamchur) I had to check a few different bags to get one that was definitely within date but it was there! The prices were fantastic. I couldn't find one ingredient- Asafoetida powder- so at checkout I asked if by chance they did have it. The woman behind the counter was extremely accommodating. She looked for me, acknowledged there was a block version but she didn't think it was exactly right for me and told me she'd request it on the next order and told me to come back 3 days later and they'd have it. I loved that. I would highly recommend goIng. They have other varieties besides strictly Indian cuisine ingredients and if they are out of something they're willing to get it in quick.

Produce: limited, shriveled, old; seemed like they got produce that were going bad from other grocery stores; disappointing. Each aisle had an assortment of ethnic items. There were a lot of middle eastern products, as well as, some Asian products. I didn't know what a lot of things were. However, I think it you're going to cook an ethnic meal, you'll probably find something you need here. Refrigerated Section: the most random things were in here. there was one big container of coffee-mate, two cartons of eggs, some beverages.....I honestly wouldn't trust buying anything from the refrigerated section They had frozen chicken with the skin on in cardboard boxes.... They also have a "fresh meat" section, but it wasn't set up yet. On the left side when you walk in, there are 3 aisles filled with an assortment of household items, cleaning supplies, DVDs, and silverware. The store has a feel of a run-down Asian market. I asked the lady at the register if they are new, and she said, "Yes. We opened 2 weeks ago." It's always cool to check out new businesses that open around the neighborhood.
