We were celebrating my father-in-law's 100th birthday and we filled out the form on the milestones and sent it in. As we reread the article that we wanted published we noticed some spelling errors. We called the Herold journal twice and got no answer, we left messages both times. Some guy finally called back and was one of the rudest persons I've ever talked to. We told him we had sent in a milestone and that we needed him to disregard it because of some spelling errors. He said he would and said to send in another and write what day we wanted it to run in the paper. We did all that and got the paper on Saturday November 17th and low and behold no 100th birthday milestone was in the paper. We waited until the following Tuesday thinking that it would be in then but no such luck. We went down to the Herold Journal to talk to someone but the building was lock up tight and a sign that read call this number for an appointment. Called the number and no answer. The Herold Journal is one of the most worthless pieces of print that I have ever read. I would not waste my money on this paper. read more

Not worth the hassle. Had them before when they delivered by paperboy. Hardly ever got them. Decided to try them again since it's delivered by mail now. I received 1. Not worth $15. I subscribed to this paper because I wanted access to local news and I wanted to get my children reading the newspaper. I got the local news, and I got my children reading (somewhat), but I also got a leftist rag. Other than letters to the editor, most of the national content was decidedly left of center. In addition, I tried four separate times via email to cancel my subscription over the course of four months. The first two times were from an email they may have not had on file, the second two times were from the email they had on file. I finally called in and cancelled (I think) and complained. They claimed they don't send email responses because they're trying to protect a person's private information. I find that hard to believe, especially a simple cancellation confirmation. I asked for a refund for my last payment and they said they probably couldn't give refunds under $10. read more

DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THE HERALD JOURNAL!!! I got roped into signing a contract with an old man outside Lee's marketplace. He never mentioned a contract and practically begged me to let it charge my account three times. I had thought about getting the paper before so thought nothing of it. The charge came and went and I NEVER RECEIVED A PAPER. About two weeks later I called to complain and quit my subscription. I called three or four times and they explained that I signed up with a "kiosk" representative so I was in a minimum three month contract. Although frustrating I understood it was my fault for jumping into it without reading the fine print. Then I asked if they could put a note on my account to cancel once the three months was up. Nope. So I put it on my calendar to call when the contract was up. The three months were up and STILL NO PAPER so I called. He said it was cancelled. Thank goodness. Today, three months after I thought it was cancelled, I noticed another withdrawal on my account from the Herald Journal. Come to find out they had charged my account a total of three times after canceling. I called again to get this straightened out. The customer service rep was polite and said there was no stop on my account. EEEEERGH! I explained my situation and he stopped the automatic withdrawals. Then forwarded my call to a supervisor to get my money back for the last three months that I haven't received a single paper. When I spoke to her she said there wasn't much she could do but try to figure out why I wasn't getting my paper then HUNG UP ON ME! I called again to complain about that, sat on hold for another fifteen minutes and next they told me that not a single complaint had been recorded on my account (I had called to complain about six times). Without the complaints the rep wasn't convinced that I would get my money back but still forwarded the call to a supervisor. She was polite and understanding and finally got it all straightened out. She said I would get my money back in six to eight weeks. The question is if they can't seem to do their job of delivering a paper will I really get my money back? read more
