I really like the libraries that have a separate room for kid's activities, it contains the kids and helps keep calm. But E. Lake doesn't have this, and the children's area it not set up in a way that facilitates story time. It also tends to get really crowded here, while for some reason many other libraries get almost no kids for story times. More and more families seem to arrive as the activity gets going, each new late family plopping on the floor behind another, not in a nice neat circle that generates a sense of order for the kids. Ironically, I also like when the facilitator responds positively to little kids who do choose to get up and move around, but I get little sense at E. Lake what the kids are supposed to do.

There is a parking lot which is always helpful in the city. Its all one floor so I could keep an eye when the kids were exploring. It could also be great if someone has mobility concerns. The back has a large kids area with books, coloring, scavenger hunts, toys, a makeshift storefront, games and so much more! The coolest part was a lightbright table( see pic). If you need to use the internet, there are at least 20 computers available. If you need a room to study, there are at least 2 and one large group room for classes or team meetings. As usual, library staff are super friendly, knowledgeable and open to help with your questions.

It looks like a historic building, is well kept and well stocked. There are lots of areas represented from children's materials, references and periodicals, and books to check out. Oh dear this is a GREAT library! I know I saw that a lot, but the only thing I don't like about…read morethis library is that it is nowhere near my house. First time visit to participate in a kids program. Thanks MIA! Thanks awesome teenage volunteers! We parked in the small lot in the back and walked around the beautiful old building. Inside, a renovation means this little building is looking great too! A great room for small events, a nice play area for tots, a fabulous selection of books (I ended up getting three for myself, which rarely happens bc I'm a reserve list type of gal) Two lovely chatty and knowledgable librarians. Also, you're really close to a lot of good bakeries.

The community meeting room is to your right and down the stairs when you first bête the doors. They keep the extra chairs in the basement so it feels a little like a storage closet at first. The meeting room is very spacious and includes a podium, microphone, large moveable tables with chairs and a white board. It does feel a bit like you're in a planetarium or severe weather shelter (which it probably is), but overall it's a decent space you can book for free. I definitely want to come back and check out the actual library sometime.

I love this library and the fact that it's paired with the Dakota county library systems! I grew up…read morein a small town so I was used to waiting 6+ months for a book to become available. Not the case with this library system. Their online system makes it so easy to get holds transferred from other libraries in the county. They are quick and efficient and it's easy to find where your holds are. The library is clean, welcoming, and overall very quiet. They have Toddler Storytime days and Storytime for 3-5 year olds. I used to love taking my toddler there and she had a great time. They sing songs, read books and have a play time after with the library toys. There is also a small sized selection of kids puzzles, a dollhouse, some magnet walls and magnetic tiles. There are also 4 small computers for kids 5+. Computers are also available for adults in a different section near the entrance. Overall it's not the biggest library, but it's beautiful, clean, renovated, and friendly! I love it and I'm glad to have it around.

A big open kids section, an iLab, and a sensory room (with tools for people with autism or sensory processing issues to regulate), and a fireplace in the back got added with the renovations that happened a year or two ago. The only thing I'd improve is they don't have many places for book displays, and some of the displays are hidden. The featured teen books are just on a small rotating book stand and some featured non-fiction books are on a wall that's kind of hidden. The best displays are the children's books and Librarians choice books, which are right up front in an open are. Sometimes there's also a table with a book display by the entrance next to all the new books, which is changed regularly, so that's nice. I just wish the book displays particularly for the teen and nonfiction sections were more visible and inviting.

This library also has the best selection of lucky day books and I always find something new that I'm eager to read! They also are conveniently located right off of the expressway and they have a parking lot. Unfortunately the parking lot is usually super busy and you can only stay an hour but that usually isn't a problem for me because I am normally just running in to pick up my holds. They also have pretty long hours so I can get there after work or on a weekend. In general, I think the library system is one of the most incredible gifts that the world has created. I love the sharing of resources and the opportunity for all people to have places to go to gain access to information. This library and it's staff are top notch!

If dark academia isn't your vibe, there's also so many tables near windows to get sunshine while you work. There's plenty of computers for students and a couple of computers available for use by the community. The librarians are incredibly helpful with research (online databases and print books). While the library doesn't have as many new books, they are well connected and can borrow books from other University libraries across the country.
