This review is for the CPR training course that I attended at this fire station. I'm currently…read moretaking a drug abuse cause/treatment class at UNLV and this course was a great opportunity to learn how to help someone if they suspect that they are overdosing. I learned so much from this course and I hope I can take what I learned over to someone that may need help. The course speakers and volunteers of the day were Tim, Tom, Brooke and Carolyn. After learning about the dangers of fentanyl and opioids, we were given an overdose response kit that included a pair of gloves and a thing of Narcan nasal spray, along with watching an instructional video of how to use the nasal spray on someone who may have overdosed. I will be definitely carrying this on me anytime when I'm on campus or anywhere else, but I was advised not to leave it in my car. Afterwards, we were taught how to perform CPR on those dummies that have grey heads and blue bodies, to the beat of Stayin' Alive by The Bee Gees (the beats of the song helped us determine how many presses we should give the victim). I tried not to sing along to this while practicing CPR. We all did a great job practicing and moved on to how to stop external bleeding and how to use a tourniquet after taking a quick five-minute break. Having not used a tourniquet before, it was painful the more I tried to twist it, but even though it is painful to use the more you twist it, it's important to use it for anyone who is in need of a medical emergency. The training course wrapped up with a demonstration of how to use an AED. I've never seen an AED machine in action before, so it was interesting to see how it would actually work. Unlike the Narcan nasal spray, AEDs can be left in your car. I'm glad that I got to attend this course. It was definitely worth the two hours and I know that I can attempt to save someone if they needed assistance. Also, I want to add in that I'm A Community Lifesaver! Thank you to Tim, Tom, Brooke, Carolyn, and the rest of the Henderson Fire Department for making this possible.

Review #131 - 2017…read more In all honesty, I don't even know if this is the correct fire station that the two wonderful gentlemen who came to my rescue are actually stationed at, but I hope someone recognizes them from my picture and send them my heartfelt gratitude. I was walking at the North Premium Outlet on Friday, May 26th, around 9:30 AM & all of a sudden my potassium level dropped. It's happened a few times before so I didn't think much of it. I decided to buy some orange juice at Starbucks to hopefully bring it back up. Unfortunately, it didn't help this time around. I ended up feeling worse as I continued to walk and tried to make my way back to my car. I decided to sit down and ask the lady who was cleaning the area next to me to dispatch security and ask them to call 911, since I was unsure of how to tell them exactly where I needed to be picked up. When these two gentlemen showed up about 15 minutes later, they gave me a blood test to see if my sugar level was ok--which it was high since I was downing all that OJ. They also said that my blood pressure was high, which was most likely due to my stress level from missing my flight earlier and my heart rate going all kinds of crazy. They picked me & my 1-year old daughter up and took us to the nearest ER, which unfortunately happened to be Valley Hospital Medical Center. They were really wonderful at taking care of my daughter, the person that was more important than my own life. She was my biggest concern, even while I felt that my life could end at any given moment. I just needed to know that she was in good hands. These two wonderful gentlemen not only saved my life, but they also did a tremendous job at keeping my daughter calm throughout the entire time that they were transporting me into the ER. Thank you, ever so much, for doing your job so well and may God bless you both!

The fire captain offered us a tour and then one of the fire fighters took over. Everyone was super nice and the gentleman who gave us the tour was very knowledgeable and friendly. Even let my son go in the fire engine and try on his gear. What a guy. Great time. Would highly recommend for anyone or any child that is interested in Fire Technology.
