Probably one of the better bars in Groningen to have a super relaxed evening. They have a beer…read moreelevator that brings the beer upstairs if you sit there which is quite funny to see. also there are games you can borrow and play. once a week there is bingo night also which is fun. the guests tend to be a bit more alternative than other places in town which is a pleasant change. in my opinion this bar ranks in the top 5 of town.

There was no apologies with it (bottled beverage not something particularly complicated to prepare...) to come. As for the food, all of us enjoyed it much, we selected e.g., poke salad, curry pasta with frutti di mare, club sandwich or pork skewers and more. On Mondays they also serve lobster but it was not Monday, so didn't have chance to try it. Portions will vary in the amount of food served with tendency towards less than more. Overall the Paviljoen van de Dame seemed worth the visit; the views, design, weather and food quality somehow compensated the gaps in building the impression that your visit is important to them. 4:1 yelps for now.

I was with family, and we ordered the Tagine for two, with different meats, plus a few side dishes. IT WAS AMAZING! So Rich in flavour and spices. The amount of dishes to choose from is insane, and they range from meaty to vegetarian, although I don't know about vegan. The service was really nice and tried to translate everything we didn't understand. I would definitely go again, although it is a bit pricey for a student-budget.

My relatives there think I'm crazy for being so enamored of tiny little Surhuisterveen. To them, it's nothing much: just the neighboring town where they do their shopping. To me, it's a charming European town with a great mix of practical chain stores and wonderful little boutiques. Where better to watch the locals go about their business on foot and bicycle than Kolkzicht? Literally, it's something like View of the Kolk (the main drag that it's on). During the Summer months (or if you're a smoker), enjoy their outdoor seating for the best view. There are heat lamps if it gets chilly. When last I went, in early December of 2010, that was not an option. Inside it's lovely as well. I just stopped in for an afternoon coffee. I was seated by a window and could gaze outwards, left in peace, to my heart's content. I've been there for drinking and for dinner. Both were great. (Note to self: Too many Berenburgs really are too many!) Next time I'm going to need to try their lunch fare. Uitsmijter, anyone? The bar and restaurant are attractive in a classic way. It's definitely worth a 'go'!
