The building is stunning and the displays are pure art. The docents are incredibly knowledgeable and provide you with an abundance of information. My only complaint is that the exterior of this beautiful shrine is marred by ugly QR code banners which make it impossible to take a good photo of the exterior. I also hope they remove 'The 1619 Project' from its prominent display as it has been widely discredited and is a real insult to the 360,000 Union Soldiers who sacrificed their lives - as did Lincoln - to eradicate slavery from our country.

It's a small museum with three separate rooms. There's a fun Morse code activity and some paper and colors to draw with. I'd say it's a place for fifth graders and up. I think it should be complimentary for hotel guests but I guess one time pay is ok ($120 for 4 of us.) The tour was about 45 minutes and it had free champagne and apple cider at the end. The tour guide team was very nice and friendly. They made the tour fun and entertaining :)

What I appreciate most is that this isn't an isolated monument. It sits along the Main Street pedestrian mall, part of a small walking museum that also includes tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Dosan Ahn Chang Ho, and Eliza Tibbets -- figures connected by their fight for justice and dignity in different corners of the world. In 2023, the city completed an enhancement project around the monument, giving the space a more intentional setting for reflection. It's free, peaceful, and easy to visit, with benches nearby if you want to just sit for a minute. I never feel rushed here. It's the kind of place that asks something of you -- not much, just a pause -- and gives you a little perspective in return.

Shiprock, a formidable rock formation rises from the desert floor. Kinda resembles a majestic ship sailing through sandy seas. The Navajo people held it sacred, honoring its significance for generations. Shiprock is a towering, weathered rock commanding respect, shaped by nature's enduring forces. Its origins intrigued me, and I immersed myself in its history. Legend spoke of a great flood, and the Shiprock served as a vessel of salvation for the Navajo people. Transformed into stone, it symbolized protection and resilience. Very very interesting.. Stepping out of my car, I neared the monument, captivated by its grandeur. The colors and patterns etched into the rock unveiled the passage of time. Yet, the desert had other plans. Suddenly, winds roared, untamed and furious. Sand swirled, obscuring the monument. The tempest, relentless, threatened my presence. Struggling to stay upright, I sought shelter in my car. The wind rattled, buffeting the vehicle, while dust particles assaulted the air. It felt as if I'd stumbled into a wild haboob, nature's chaotic storm. With great effort, I retreated to safety, my heart pounding. Inside the car, I realized nature's power had exceeded my expectations. The monument, once serene, transformed into a battleground. Summoning courage, I started the engine and escaped the storm's clutches. Gratitude washed over me as the wind subsided, leaving a calm desert in its wake. With memories of Shiprock imprinted on my mind, it makes me wonder if there is something almost supernatural about this location...

I attended an event as a chaperone with the kids from Micah House, and from the moment you walk in, the Burrage Mansion is stunning. The steps leading up to the home and the beautifully preserved historic house immediately set the tone. The property owner generously hosts events here, and one of the annual events is a Christmas celebration for elementary school kids. He opens up the entire estate for the children to enjoy crafts, a magic show, bounce houses, and even a visit with Santa Claus. There are also two rooms filled with presents where each child gets to choose a gift, which was incredibly special to see. It was such a thoughtful, joyful, and memorable experience for everyone involved. I'm not sure what other events are hosted here, but based on this experience alone, the Burrage Mansion absolutely deserves five stars.
