My daughter had her fifth birthday party here. We had gone to a birthday here several months ago…read moreand she had her heart set on this place for hers. The two young women who led the event were absolutely wonderful managing several 4 and 5 year olds. Everyone had the best time, and I had parents telling me how much their kid loved it. Some said they would be signing their kid up for lessons! My one criticism is that it is pretty hard to reach someone about birthdays. I had left several messages and it took a few days for someone to return my car. It was much better once we were emailing, although I did have to email a few days before the event to confirm and ask when we could get in to decorate.

My daughter had a hard time doing kartwheels and got no help at all while practicing, and felt defeated a few weeks in a row with a specific instructor who paid no attention to help her. Other instructor were better, but not all were created equal. I found the facility dirty and smelly, but tolerated it because the kids enjoyed it. We decided to try out the summer camp the following summer and I enrolled my daughter, who was 5 at the time, in for a few weeks. It was going fine until the third day I dropped her off. She was having a hard time with me leaving, and the young instructor was not particularly helpful. She gave her some coloring pages and was sitting with her talking to other instructors as I walked out of the building. I got in my car and a few minutes later started to drive away. I looked in my rearview mirror and saw my daughter had run out of the building alone into the parking lot looking for me. I jumped out of my car in a panic and grabbed her. When I walked back into the building, there was ZERO concern that they had not supervised my child and had not even noticed she had run out of the building. They looked at me like I was overreacting when I explained my concern. I was horrified by the lack of professionalism and disregard for my child. I will never return or recommend anyone to this facility.

A new gym that opened up in Southie. There's currently no sign outside the building (hopefully…read morethere will be soon), but Iona was right outside the entrance and led us up to the little room. It's slightly confusing to get up to the little space that they have, but there are small signs inside the building along the stairways and hallways. The space itself it probably the size of a large bedroom and is half wood floor and half hard grippy mat material. They have a bunch of weights, rings, ropes, and a hang bar. They do have a small water bubbler next to the shoe racks with a small bench to put your belongings. I took a movement class, which was interesting and time seemed to pass fairly quickly. I signed a quick waiver and Iona promptly started the class with demonstrating some exercises across the floor. Iona explained the class puts an unconventional spin on the normal exercises you would generally do in a typical workout (squats, lunges, planks etc). This class allows you to move your body in different ways that we don't typically move in. All the exercises built off one another with varying difficulties depending on your level of mobility. Iona walked around to check in with everyone during the exercises. We also played a partner tennis ball game that put all the aspects of mobility together that definitely helps with eye-hand coordination. The class ended with "the shake", which you close your eyes and move your shoulders up and down for a solid 5 minutes. It was a really weird way to end the class and I'm not really sure what the purpose for it was. Besides the movement class, they also offer a mobility class, handstands, and open gym (early in the morning and late afternoons/evenings). They also offer personal 1:1 training for people to come in and train during open gym. Your first class is $10 with the code "bodyofwork" while your first month is $99 to take as many classes as you'd like. They also offer a 5 class pack and a monthly membership. If you live in the area and are looking for something different, then I'd give it a try.
