Hello Sugar was introduced to me on an add on Facebook where it was advertised that I could get a bikini wax for free or a Brazilian wax for $20, and with vacation coming up I decided that now would be a great time for me to get a Brazilian wax since I struggle with ingrown hairs.
If I would have known my experience I would have 100% stuck to shaving. First, my originally appointment was rescheduled 2 times. The first time being because the waxer was no longer with the company and the second time was because the waxer was sick. Which I understand can happen, but at this point now I was 2 days before my vacation and desperate to get in. So I booked with someone that had a next day availability, and went to my appointment that following day.
First, the location is slightly confusing. There is no signs that indicates that Hello Sugar is in the building and you have to be run in through a keypad to access the waiting room. This did not work, so I had to wait on customer service to give me direction on how to get into the building. Which took about 20 minutes for me to get in contact with someone. The waxer was apologetic that the bell wasn't working to get into the building and was kind throughout my service, however this did not makeup for my waxing experience.
Secondly, let's get into the waxing experience. I have had several Brazilians done before, but this wax made me question if I will ever get another done. There was no prep work done before waxing (it wasn't offered), or no powder applied to my skin before waxing. So when the waxer informed me that my hairs weren't sticking to the wax, I wasn't surprised. She continued to wax me multiple times in the same area because the wax wouldn't pick up my hairs. I followed the recommended length to have my hair at before the wax, so there was no reason why it wasn't sticking to the wax.
When the waxer would pull the wax, the strip would break in half and she would have to do two pulls instead of one, in addition to her going over the area multiple times. Also, if you've every had a Brazilian done before, you know how sensitive of an area it is to get waxed ONCE, let alone multiple times.
By the end of the wax my skin was so sore and sensitive. There was no mirror so that I could look at the wax job once I was finished, but I was informed that I had several small hairs that she couldn't get along with the hairs that didn't stick to the wax. The small hairs could only be a result of long hairs being broken by the improper wax application, since like I mentioned previously I had done the recommended length. She also informed me that I had wax residue left on me after she was done. I have never had wax residue left on me to the extent that I had after this wax. I had several large chunks that were left on me, and several pieces that I had to rip out of my hair that she missed.
When I showered later that night, I made sure to keep it at a cool temperature, but my skin burned so bad that I was unable to stay under the water. My skin turned a bright pink color and was so tender that it was uncomfortable to wear clothes. This pain continued for days. I tried reaching out to customer service, and they said someone would get back with me, and no one did.
I am one to give business the benefit of the doubt, but this was a terrible experience and I felt like I was a guinea pig getting experimented on, and I will be terrified to get another Brazilian due to this experience. I would recommend you go somewhere else if you're looking to get waxed. read more
