This home is exquisite! I particularly liked entering from the back porch side and being greeted as it immediately gave the mind-set of, "Welcome." And soon after, "Welcome Home." The grounds gardens are an English garden oasis in this Midtown section. The property sits far enough off of Piedmont so that the city noise and traffic is hardly noticeable, yet you are only a couple of blocks from the park and some great restaurants. Everything is wonderful, from the gardens to the architecture and modern upgrades (our shower with ceiling and side wall heads), pasties, snacks, soft drinks at the ready, down to the smaller details like triple sheet bedding and French coffee pressed morning brew. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our host, Judy, was very personable and we connected with her immediately, especially in discussing our shared faith. The porches are spacious, quiet, and if desired, heated. Breakfast is served at a community style table, which also turned out to be pleasant, simply because the type of patron to this particular sort of inn (Select Registry) must have something in common! In fact, a young couple also staying here unexpectedly showed up at a folk concert we also attended in Kennesaw (25-30 miles North) at a community Church. I believe there are eight rooms in the main house, each with a private and spacious bathroom. Personal entry codes are provided and activated during your stay. We had an absolutely lovely time and will be back!

Decatur Alpaca Farm is more of a lifestyle than a physical space. Nestled in an unassuming…read moreresidential neighborhood, this magnificent microfarm and its beautifully manicured gardens, impeccably clean grounds, and hilariously entertaining animals offers such a whimsical and interesting escape from the hustle and bustle of the city -- it is an escape you surely will not want to miss. Marykay, who is by far one of the most interesting, friendly, and intelligent people we've ever met, greeted us with a fresh bowl of eggs hatched that same day from her flock of 25 chickens. The alpaca herd was visible from the nearby gate -- all were happily chomping away at a pile of orchard grass (which Marykay later informed us is the equivalent of alpaca pizza). They are inquisitive, yet a little shy, but if you respect them they will return the favor. Both alpacas, chickens, and cottage guests have plenty of space so as not to intrude upon one another. We opted for the Alpaca Experience, which is an absolute must-do for all guests. It is incredibly informational and as interactive as you'd like for it to be -- assuming you are putting the animals' needs ahead of your own. Marykay is incredibly knowledgeable and has literally built the farm from a small chicken coop to a very impressive, tidy, organized alpaca haven. It is very evident that all animals are so loved, respected, and maybe just a bit spoiled from time to time. All are rescued from varying degrees of past hardship but their new life on Marykay's farm is a blissful existence, as evidenced by their calm, enthusiastic, and curious demeanor. The cottage itself is adorable -- easily comparable to the spaces and vibes found in Garden and Gun or Southern Living. The refrigerator is stocked with all the conveniences of home, snacks and beverages are available for those late-night cravings, and coffee at the ready for early risers. Everything was clean, warm, cozy, and loved -- just like the farm animals. Dare we mention the alpaca fiber blankets available throughout the space? The entire experience is what you make of it. Should you want to hole up in the house (not recommended when alpaca/chicken watching is so entertaining and the spirit of the various flower/vegetable/dyes gardens being so alive, but who are we to tell you how to spend your time), Marykay will absolutely respect your boundaries. But, if you're looking to truly experience something unique, as her a few questions. You will not be disappointed. We travel often and book via Airbnb regularly, however no place has been quite as comfortable, unique, interactive, and interesting as Decatur Alpaca Farm. Marykay has created something so unique and heartwarming -- every open-minded adventurer should include this place as a stop on the bucket list. As for the casual traveler, a couple nights in her garden will erase all stress, even if the alpacas are not your thing. We did not want to leave.

She welcomes everyone here, and I don't mention that lightly in 2021. I used the property for a visual project some years ago, and kept in touch because it was that moving of an experience. And don't get me started on the majesty of the alpacas - my goodness!!! Feeding them carrots might be one of the highlights of the past decade. What a hidden gem right near the city of Atlanta. Do your spirit a favor and definitely visit!

I already knew the owner (Eileen), who also owns Cafe at the Corner in Hapeville, and she really made us feel special that night with plenty of wine and cheese, mimosas, great laughs and good conversation. Eileen goes out of her way to make everything in her b&b top-knotch, from linens to soaps to dishes to decor. It was very clean and comfortable. Even to this day (two years after the wedding), the girls and moms still tell me what a fun and special time we had at Maison Lavigne B&B. Eileen is Paris-trained chef so anything she makes is going to take your taste buds on a trip to Europe. Brunch the next morning was amazing--usually a girl's nerves prevent her from eating on the day of her wedding but not me! The food was so delicious that I had seconds and ate more than any of the other girls that morning! Because the B&B is so scenic both indoors and out, my wedding photographer came and did some shots of us there, and the photos turned out great. I highly recommend Maison Lavigne for any purpose--a girls weekend, a romantic getaway for 2, a family gathering, or just afternoon tea or lunch.
