A nice place, nice people. A great place to get a All Over Tan or a soak in the hot tub on a cool day

I happened upon this place quite by accident. Actually, I was online looking for writing contests…read moreand courses when I came across the page for the Writers Guild of Alberta. After spending a great deal of time looking through the site, I decided that I wanted to become a member. Since they don't take payment online, I went down to the office in the Percy Page Centre. It's a pretty small office but there was a desk just inside the door where I told the girl I wanted to sign up. While she processed my membership, she directed me to a library area. I felt right at home in the small office. There were some great reference books related to writing. Someone else in the office informed me that aside from the reference books, all other books in the library were written by Alberta authors. It was fascinating! I saw a few familiar names but a lot I'd never seen or heard of. It's great to know that there's so much literary talent in the province!

I was excited when we first went down and I was looking forward to making some connections. When we went into the centre, the person who was manning the front desk seemed very disinterested in us being there and didn't know much about her position. We were asking her questions and she didn't know the answer to any of them, After leaving the office, my family friend told me about all the perks that were involved in membership and I was pumped. It is now 2 months later and I have yet to find any worth in the $30 that was spent on the membership. I feel bad that I received membership as a gift from someone who was so excited about it, but it just doesn't do much at all. Yes, you can get discounts on retreats (They still cost upwards of $500) and you can go to lectures and talks from authors in Alberta which is cool, but I hear about enough of these through my school. You are supposed to receive monthly "Writer's Guild of Alberta" publication (I never received one) and weekly e-newsletters into your inbox (mine stopped 2 weeks ago for some reason). To sum up? I won't be reapplying for membership next year.

Special the elder, disabled who have no other source such as family for daily check. I was one of them. It caused me huge anxiety being in my 80s having only now myself in Canada. As much as I tried I could not find a provider with same service so I hired a private person to connect with me daily as a well check. I contacted the Samaritan requesting a proof of them having submitted the yearly invoice to Seniors as this is a credited services when applied and refunded. They did not bother both times I contacted them for proof these were submitted for the past 2 years. My next step was contacting the BBB who accepted my complain and on my behalf contacted Samaritan few time but GOOD SAMARITAN SOCIETY did not ever bother to reply. So, before you donate or leave your estate to them THINK! Are they worthy of such support through you when they don't care. DID NOT CARE in very short notice to drop their service so important to us seniors but surely liked our money monthly or more often. My estate goes to worthy societies, schools or research. The founders of this GOOD SOCIETY SAMARITAN would turn in their grave if only they knew. BAD, bad run society.

Good Sam is an amazing non-profit organization. I love the people who work here. They are some of…read morethe warmest and friendliest people I've met. While the organization is founded on Christian hospitality principals, you don't have to be religious to work here or be a client here. They provide health care services to people in the community who do not have the resources or alternative of private long-term health care. There are lots of clients who live in the building in upstairs accommodations, while the offices are downstairs. The people who work here are committed to making peoples' lives more comfortable. Good Sam runs an annual golf tournament fundraiser and proceeds go towards things like buying more comfortable adjustable beds for clients on bed rest or who are immobile. There is an enthusiasm and passion here for helping others, whatever your race or religion. So if you're looking for an organization to volunteer for, there is a lot of good work to be done here.
