I revisit it whenever I…read morecan because I love the atmosphere, the building (especially the interior), and the statue of James Watt (famous son of Greenock of course). I was there again in October (3 weeks ago) and took the photos which accompany this review. It has been greatly updated over the years and now has web-linked computers and other things from the modern age - besides all the up-to-date books of course! The librarian could have been a bit friendlier - that's my only gripe!

Apart from their selection of books,CDs & DVDs being better than before they're doing more such as an afternoon craft programme for young children & a teenage chill time. There are a bank of PCs which are free and I believe MacMillan also come in. The only downside is no comfortable seating to make me want to come and stay a while. Maybe there's a reason for that but with only hard chairs & small study desks I didn't spend as long there as I would have liked.

I spent many a grim hour in the basement study room of Clydebank library cramming for my university…read moreexams. Most of the time it was pretty peaceful but occasionally the place was overrun by excitable teenagers. The staff were pretty good at telling them to shut up though. My main complaint was the opening hours. Eight pm Monday to Thursday, 5pm Friday and Saturday and closed on Sunday, many a time I was just beginning to get the grips of a literary theory when the librarian told me it was time to pack up and go home. Interesting fact: Clydebank Library was funded by American Philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Anyone want to start a petition to change the name of the building to Carnegie Hall 2? Anyone?

It's reasonably sized but incredibly stocked for the space they have available to them! When you walk in the door you're hit with a revolving bookcase full of Mills and Boon (guilty pleasure....ask me no quesitons), crime fiction and popular books. They also have a healthy selection of gardening books, cookery books and a bookshelf dedicated to recent book-turned-film adaptations. Speaking of movies, they not only have a spattering of videos left for those with VHS, but a good collection of DVD's - cheaper than the DVD rental store, but you didn't hear it from me... What impressed me the most, however, was an exciting collection of Western books with quite possibly the most animated covers I've ever seen. That, above all else, will get me going back, but on a broader scale there's a little something for everyone in here. Good choices for light reading, an audio book and music CD choice and exciting books for kids - with the additional community evenings they host this library's a good meeting place for Kilbirnie's culture vultures.

Sadly there is no free Wi-Fi at the moment and the staff could be friendlier but they're just small points for me. More important and the reason why it doesn't have 5 stars, is because they only open one evening a week. A city centre library should be open a few more evenings so those of us who work can use it more often. I'm sure there must be a way of closing off the art gallery so this can happen. Anyhoo, it is worth a visit as the sections also include graphic novels, modern classics, lgbt literature and everything in between. They can also order in books from other libraries.

It's quite busy during the day and has a good buzz about it, more like a cafe with books than a library with a cafe. Depending on what you're after, this will either be good or bad. A handy wee place I can see me going to alot over the summer.

Books are always in great condition, and there is a grat choice available. I really like that you can borrow books from this library and renew them online if you cannot get in to return them avoiding any late fees! This library also offers lessons for people who are not sure about using computers. A bit difficult to park but the bus stop is right outside and the doctors surgery is attached so it's easy to pop in on way to doctors!

Giffnock library is a fantastic little local library, it isn't huge but it still has a good…read moreselection of books, computers, scanners and various other library resources. My local library is Clarkston library but often if they don't have something then Giffnock will have so I take a little trip down to collect my book. It's really handy as Clarkston library is right next to Clarkston train station, so I can hop onto the train and get off at the next stop three minutes along the road which is Giffnock. Even more handy is the fact that Giffnock library is right next to the station too, so minimal walking effort required, fabulous! I don't use this library so much now but I used to all the time when I was younger as I was a total book worm. I still am a book worm but tend to use Amazon most of the time when I need a book. The staff are always super helpful and can give you great recommendations if like me, you struggle to pick a good book and after reading a couple of pages give up as you're bored stiff.

They kindly directed me to their toilets to use. I never seen much of the library as I was there for one thing. But it looked a very clean looking place inside of what I seen. Admirably…read morehesitant to change, the Langside Library is much the same inside and out - bar the selection of computers - as it was ten, fifteen, twenty years ago. The kids section is large and comprehensive, with all the favourites accounted for. However, special mention must go to the classics section which has a particularly extensive Dickens collection. Pretty much every newspaper is accounted for, as well as plenty of magazines and periodicals.

Conveniently located next to the hospital, Langside Library is a little more old fashioned than the…read morenew libraries that are springing up across Glasgow: even the book selection is dated, with the Mind Body and Spirit Section specialising in the Abrahamic religions and the graphic novel section a mere whimper. It isn't a great place for the specialist, unless it it is in crime novels or science fiction, where they have some idiosyncratic choices, and the CDs are mostly mainstream pop with a bit of classical. But the staff are very helpful and, while it might be a sad comment, it is peaceful and underused. Besides, they have a large section for kids, set away from the rest of the building, which keeps the atmosphere relaxed.
