So on Tuesday's, if you book a cut and colour, the colour is half price! Which is what I always do. And they also give you a loyalty card which does entice you to come back. I arrived and within a minute was checked in and told to sit in the waiting area. After a couple of minutes my hairdresser came over and discussed with me what I wanted done. As I was going for a cut and colour, she discussed with me what colour I wanted and how I wanted the cut, advising me on what would suit me and what wouldn't. She then mixed the dye up in the back and put it on. Whilst it was on she checked it and massaged it in when necessary and took it off at the right time before cutting and styling it. I was also offered and given tea and water (although there was other options available). The service is great and you really do leave feeling like you've been pampered!

The booking was easy, I got a Saturday afternoon appointment which is always a bonus, parking availability is good and I wasn't kept too long waiting before I was seen. The consultation seemed to be fine, but their stylist was dismissive of my thoughts and said that she would not cut it the way I asked as it would not turn out right. The lady washing my hair was quite rough and her attention was obviously elsewhere as the water when from cold to hot and back to cold again. My main concern was that although the stylist although chatty she came across as arrogant and did what she wanted to my hair and when it was finished, I was pretty disappointed. It was the opposite of what I had described, dull really ageing. I came out looking older than when I went in. Im sure that she isn't really arrogant, but confident in her abilities, but when my thoughts were dismissed it just looked I should be quiet and just let her get on with it. I should have probably challenged it there and then but I just wanted to get out and get home, I just wanted to cry and to see what I could salvage by styling it myself. I did have to visit another salon to have it re-cut. My overall impression is one of real disappointment, obviously there are many people who love this place, but my experience did not match up. I have to be honest and give my opinion and hopefully it is taken in the spirit in which it is meant.

I took my sorry barnet in to several salons in Croydon, who either refused point-blank to even attempt anything, and told me to go away and grow it out, or wanted several hundred pounds to make it a colour I didn't want it to be because 'it would be easier'. Only Alex at Ice in Croydon was confident that he could put my hair back to an approximation of my natural colour. And he managed it, too, meaning that I have now sworn my undying (and un-dye-ing) devotion to him. Several of my friends go to Ice, too, and all are constantly delighted with the results for both colour and cut. What's more, it's fairly reasonable money, in the grand scheme of hairdressers. And, first time you go you get a voucher for 50% off for a friend, which in turn entitles you to 50% off next time you go, so if you get everyone in on the act you'll all be quids in.

Anyway, someone recommended this salon to me and I haven't looked back. Vilma, the owner, is an excellent colourist and stylist and I've never yet been disappointed. She is also really lovely and the salon has a relaxed, friendly vibe. Stylish rather than trendy I would say, and not trying too hard to be cool like some others do. The prices are very reasonable and there are always great deals on. My two sisters also get their hair done there and one of them lives in Deptford so it must be good for her to travel all that way!

She even made the blonde to brown thing work without the awful murky in-between stage which is pretty impressive! I also get my nails done with TLC Nails and Beauty in the upstairs salon which is great. I never thought my nails could look nice until I went there. Anyway, I can't recommend this place enough, so if you're sick of paying for overpriced chain salons like Headmasters give Shine a try.
