After spending a significant amount of time in Spain, and walking past heladeria after heladeria, it is only just a matter of time before I cave and indulge in some ice cream.
Although there are a few ice cream shops along Avenida Marina (one of the main streets in this part of A Coruña), Heladeria Colon was my favorite of the shops we tried. (Yes, there was more ice cream in my future.)
It's a pretty popular place - you can guarantee that there will be a long queue, especially later into the evening. I have no idea how the employees manage to have such energy helping countless customers and staying on their feet for hours on end.
It's best not to get to the shop TOO late, or you may be sadly informed that your first and second choices of flavors are no longer available.
Because my first choice (turron) was no longer available, I selected a cone of the crema tostada flavor. The ice cream tasted just like the classic dessert that is made using eggs, sugar, and milk. The texture of the ice cream itself was so smooth and creamy. 2 Euro well-spent! read more
