Great, well maintained trail system. Lots of parking. Dogs allowed (on leashes) and clean-up and carry-out expected.

We camped at the group site here this past weekend (6/21-23). I would definitely recommend camping…read morehere with a large group, though it does book up quickly. The group site can accommodate up to 15 people. We had 12 and were MORE than comfortable. The site was large enough for all 6 of our tents and a canopy and could have accommodated more. There was plenty of grass and mulch to set up on, as well as ample space for parking, 2 fire pits, 2 picnic tables and an extra large grill, making it easy to cook for a big group. It was also far enough from other campsites to avoid bothering them, which we were concerned about with 12 young adults. It was located very close to the ranger station which had toilets but no showers. I never checked out the showers because we only stayed 2 nights but the bathrooms we used were clean and well kept. A few bugs in them late at night but that can't really be helped. The mosquitos were present but not as bad as some of the reviews I read suggested. Between the fire, a repelling device and bug spray we were not getting eaten alive. My friend did find one tick but caught it before it burrowed luckily. Just make sure you're checking for ticks each night. Some of the group went hiking which they said was lovely with pretty views. We checked out the beach which was a short walk from the group site. It was mainly set up for kids with a shallow roped off area, though there would have been nothing stopping you from climbing under the rope if you wanted to go for more of a swim. The water was still very cold that early in the season so I didn't get past my ankles. People were also fishing and launching kayaks near the beach. The park was pretty busy the whole weekend, so definitely not a secluded backwoods vibe, which was fine by me since I haven't camped much. I also appreciated the close proximity to Walmart which was useful for getting ice when we ran out. There is also a liquor store a short drive from the campsite, though officially alcohol is not allowed. All in all I would definitely come back here and reserve the group site again. It was an awesome trip for our larger group of friends.

Terrible place for a hike. Poor mapping. A lot of paved roads as "trails". Steer clear.read more

I never gave it much thought and always made it a point to search out this view driving this route. Fast forward to these crazy days of social distancing and taking rides to some of CT's hidden gems , we passed the falls , I pulled out my phone to see if they were noted on a map and we decided to try for a closer look! I grew up in Middletown and while the Westfield de ruin was almost another " town", I can't believe I'd never heard of these falls before. They are located off Miner St just after the golf course, with a small pull off for parking. The Falls are unmarked; no signage exists. A clear path is visible after the set of cement blockades. No more than 3-4 cars can park in the pull off. The path to the falls is flat but traprock covered with many exposed roots. The falls are not that far in. The main path leads to the top of the falls , while a second trail after the entrance to the left leads you down to the base of the falls and a great view! There were 3 waterfalls on this early April day! What a hidden gem! I look forward to returning when it's a little less bleak and gray and the tree foliage is out! Easy walk in to get a waterfall fix!

You have to parallel park on the edge of a non-level curve .... in a residential area. This wasn't for me and I don't recommend it and I believe the trails need some maintenance at the least. If you decide to follow the river down a little, you will be right underneath a busy highway. I also thought this was not nice and it contributed to my very low star rating. I would truly give 0 stars if I could.

What's not to like here? I suppose some may complain about…read morehaving to pay to park. Personally I'd like to see an option for those of us living in the Blackstone Valley (and others) to purchase an annual sticker. Similar to the way you might support a local zoo, for example. They would likely get higher donation amounts voluntarily, vs. the extortion-like pay-to-park each visit. Beyond the parking... For those seeking heat relief, on a hot summer day the low parts of the chasm are considerably cooler. Of course this does generally bring the crowds. Remember to bring bug spray. Children will be in awe of the rock formations and most will absolutely love climbing over, under and through the rocks, crevices and small caves. The rocks are normally slippery, more so after a rain or during the humid summer months - decent footwear is a must. Grandparents beware: not the best place to try to follow an 8 year old! However, across the street by the visitor center there's a nice playground for the kids to tire-out. If you want a longer/safer/less slippery hike you can follow Charlie's Loop trail in it's entirety (start by the covered picnic tables). Then maybe veer off onto the northwest side fire road. From there you can find a couple of trails that head back toward the parking lot. This is a great place to walk the dog(s) - leashed. Please pick up after your pet. Also a wonderful spot for snowshoeing - assuming we still get snow. re: parking - if you are local you might find a place over on Mendon Road, from which you can enter the park via the fire road (47CF+628).
