My rating would be 0 stars, but that isn't an option. I first contacted this firm on Monday,…read moreFebruary 16...Heather Whitaker Goldstein, specifically. I left a voicemail with her admin that day, but never heard back. On Tuesday, Feb. 17, I called back again. This time her admin did answer and told me she didn't receive a voicemail from me on Monday, Feb. 16. I explained what was going on and why I was seeking legal help. The admin took down my information, explained pricing (just fyi the pricing I was quoted for the per hour rate at this firm is roughly in the 89th percentile when compared to the average per hour rates of attorneys in the state of NC) and told me she would need to run a "Conflict of Interest" form. The admin told me she would get back to me by the close of business on Tuesday, February 17 or at the latest, Monday, February 23. Apparently, the admin was going on vacation and would be out of the office February 18-20. Today is Thursday, February 26 and I still had not received a call back from this admin. I just called and the admin told me she had been really busy since returning from vacation and was trying to get caught up...not my problem at all! She explained that my "Conflict of Interest" form came back ok but that she was waiting to hear from Mrs. Goldstein as to whether or not she would be interested in the case. The admin told me they are really busy and can't always get back to potential clients within 24 hours...10 days is significantly different than 24 hours, which is how long it had been since my initial contact with the firm. I don't have a problem paying a premium for potential services that will be rendered by a professional. However, having said that, I do expect premium customer service in return...that simply was not the case with my experience with this firm. So, now, I am 10 days in to this process and starting back over at square one!

Dealing with death in your family is never easy. It's painful, trying, and often quite messy. My…read moresituation is no exception. There are people in the family trying to act nefariously, and so I felt I needed to seek legal advice. I'd tried calling two different estate attorneys in NC (I am out of state). One was outright rude, replying, "Where did you get my number?" to a long, heartfelt message I sent him. The other firm was fine enough, but they wanted to charge me for a 5-minute phone call and didn't travel to the part of NC I needed them to. Another Google search led me to call Westall, Gray, & Connolly in Asheville. The receptionist asked what I needed, I gave a quick summary, and she transferred me to Wiley, an estate attorney who was very knowledgeable, patient, and just a lovely person to interact with--that's very welcome when you're dealing with vultures fighting over the family member's estate like it's carrion. Before I chatted with Wiley, I was afraid and upset, but his practical suggestions and warmth made me feel so much better. He's a humble guy as well. I didn't find out until the very end of the call that his last name is first on the letterhead. :-) So, if (let's be honest, more like WHEN) my family tries to cheat me out of my inheritance, I will happily hire Wiley to represent me. And I highly recommend that if you need an estate attorney, that you hire him as well.
