I take all our bikes for servicing there. By the way it is now called Rad Cycles. Always very pleased with the quality of work and products.

Being a bike geek, I had a lovely time drooling over the amount of carbon and shiny bits and bobs on display even though all I really went in for was some accessories. I nearly walked out with a considerable dent in my wallet but managed to side step the advances of a clued up shop assistane. If you are serious about your riding then Bikelab has a lot to offer, but if you are looking for a general day to day city run about at a bargain price you should probably look elsewhere. At the time of writing they were having a massive bike sale, with some real bargains to be had.

Bikelab is pretty pricey and the few times I've been in there I found some of the staff members to be a little stand offish. They certainly have some really really nice bikes though. Their Cannondale bikes are really pretty and I'll openly admit that I get a bit googly eyed every time I walk past the place. I also like the way they push cycling as a culture, organising group rides and mechanical instruction sessions for those interested. Those kind of things make a good bike shop. I just wish the place was a little more accessible.

This is "as good as it gets" for bike people. T. White is absolutely 'the man' when it comes…read moreputting together what is essentially the perfect shop for people who love riding their bikes and generally soaking in bicycle vibes. T. Whites Bikes is kind of divided into two sections. The first is loaded with high end bikes and bike accessories and apparel and the second sells second hand stuff. Both sections are worth a trawl. All the crap they have in their shop is absolute dynamite, and I can wile away hours just browsing around. What really makes T. Whites Bikes special though is the love they obviously have for cycling and the cycling community in Auckland.

Had my 4 year old son with me and the workers were cursing etc in front of him, and they were pretty rude so I decided not to go back. Last week however, I had to get 2 spokes replaced on the rear tyre of my bike so I dropped it off at T. White's because it was close to my work. All good dropping it off and the employee was relatively helpful, but then I received a text that my bike was fixed and the cost would be $60. Insane price for 2 spokes in my opinion. I came to pick up my bike the next day and a different employee was there arguing with another customer that the shop shouldn't have to replace some component that had broken on a bike that she had recently bought. The employee first ignored me and then looked at me in an unfriendly manner as if I shouldn't be in the shop so I had to explain to him that I was there to pick up my bike. I once talked to a Galapagos tortoise at the zoo that was more personable than this guy. After paying the exorbitant price for 2 spokes I asked for the receipt which he handed to me with a nice glob of grease on it. I know this is a bike repair shop but come on, get a rag! Even though my bike is fixed, I cannot recommend this business.

When I returned to pick up my bike it had been cleaned and rode much better than it had been. I hadn't purchased my bike from the shop, but that didn't matter and the staff were flexible with the actual day I picked it up. Mt Eden Cycles also stock a range of bikes if you are looking at buying one. Check out their pretty flash website for all their latest info (they even organised bunch rides).

Discussed prior setting up hydraulic brakes on my nine year olds mountain bike which was purchased from Mt Eden cycles. Explained with reach set so nine year old can one finger brake the lever presses on the other fingers. Asked and was told topping up fluids would solve problem so lever would not retract and touch fingers. When picked up bike after service found the reach on both levers had been adjusted and let out so. Job card said only rear brake bleed. Discussed with mechanic and told could not achieve outcome promised. Requested the reach was reset properly for the rider. The head mechanic was very friendly and keen for me pay before the levers were put back to how it was when brought into the shop. Won't be using this shop for servicing again, will call into BRM Cycles as they are mountain bike focused.

It was about a 3 hour trip. We made stops along the way. We stopped across from Rangitoto Volcano and we were treated to coffee or ice cream at Movenpick(Swiss ice cream). That was icing on the cake. It definitely wasn't raining, but it was a bit overcast. When the bike path ended along the water, we turned around and went back the same way we came in. The leaders led a small group of 6-8 people at a moderate speed. I was always sure to ride behind the leader because I wanted to go fast and not have to ride behind another group member. Maybe that's obnoxious. Oh well.
