Having discovered this wee gem thanks to Natalie O, I checked it out yesterday on a jolly jaunt about town. The space itself is lovely; it's light, airy, and huge, as the café actually extends over three floors. The toilet is located in the upper echelons, and each room has tons of seating and plenty of space to relax in. The first thing that hit me when I nipped in was how delightful the ladies are that run the cafe -as well as a very warm welcome we had a bit of a natter, and it felt like fitting into an old jumper -warm, relaxed and familiar. Just what you want of a coffee stop!
There are plenty of snacks and goodies to choose from, if you want for a bit of sustenance, namely their hand-chosen Belgian chocolates. There's a lovely sign saying how they have painstakingly tried several chocolates, and took the task on to pick which ones they deemed best, but are always open to suggestion as well. My favourite line was "it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it!" If they need any help in that regard, I'd happily extend my services...
I opted for a vanilla danish, which I could have gotten for free had I popped in before 10am, and a large vanilla shot latte. The large is like a soup bowl, and would have been just about £3 with the shot, only she nixed the charge as there was a half shot of vanilla left in the bottle -win! The coffee was lovingly made, and although perhaps not of the standard of Bottega and the like, it was damn decent and all the more welcome given the friendly vibe and lovely space. Regardless, it seems here you get much more caffeine per English pound than most places, so one can't complain.
I can see myself becoming a regular here, especially if they introduce free wifi, but you can't have it all at once -they've only been open a wee while. Nonetheless, Heaven is well worth your visit. Pop in, say hi, grab a coffee, bring a notepad, and watch the world go by. Everyone ought to take five minutes for coffee and poetry, and this is just the place to do so. read more
