My wife and I both suffer from hearing loss requiring the benefit of hearing aids. Given the fact…read morethat hearing aids are expensive and our belief that we could get along without them, we put it off. Our children did not share our optimistic view and encouraged us to get our hearing retested. I started by trying to get a sense of the cost of aids and did some internet shopping, talked to friends that had hearing aids about brands, service and costs. This led us to Schell Hearing Aid Service in Tawas City. Don Schell sat down with us, he asked us appropriate questions concerning our hearing problems, was patient, friendly and helpful. He then administered a hearing test to determine what each of our respective loss was. After confirming that we each had hearing loss that could be helped with hearing aids he patiently explained all the various types of devices and their pros and cons. We really like the relaxed, friendly way he handled the whole process. He gave a price that was far better than we expected, he allowed each of us a 30 day trial period and provided batteries for the entire period, he explained the typical life of a hearing aid battery and took time to show us how to care for them. He assured that he was there for us if we had any questions or concerns during the trial period and made good on those assurances. Ultimately, we both purchased our hearing aids and are completely satisfied. We recommend Shell Hearing without any hesitation or reservation.

I also know many people that have enlightened me on their experiences before and after the purchase of hearing aids. Advantage Audiology Hearing was my choice! Dr. Hamilton is superb with his caring attitude along with his honest and helpful approach to assist me with my decision on the right hearing device. The entire experience was above and beyond what I expected. It started with the initial visit which consisted of a hearing test, and other modern hearing services, then purchasing cutting edge devices that were not over priced, to the great customer service before and after the sale.

I recently had my left hearing device in need of replacement or repair. (I was even within 5 days of my warranty to expire.) I'm going in this Wednesday to pick up the replacement device! There's was no hassle and I'm always treated with respect. Dr. Hamilton, and Candy who runs the front end of the office in Gaylord, is by far the best trusted team to offer many hearing choices that fits your pocket book, and with dedicated follow through. The entire process and great hearing devices with warranties, and also offering extended warranties, is by far superior. I went to other hearing clinics that made me feel less secure in the pricing and service after the sale. I totally recommend this business as you already can see by my review it's worth taking the time to post!

Regarding the Bay City, Michigan office: Highly disappointed in how this business handles the…read moreresponsibility of helping, a mostly elderly clientele, find a hearing aid that works for them. We went into an appointment with this company for a simple hearing aid check and cleaning for my grandmother. After comments were made about not being able to put them in her ears very well, because of her arthritis that is being treated by a doctor currently, the gentleman started a very thorough hearing exam. After the exam was finally over there was a lot of talk about how terrible her hearing was and how it will only progress without using her hearing aids (fact checked this and that is a false statement). Up until now, I thought this was going to be a lecture on her lack of use because of the arthritis, to make sure she tries harder to get them in and we would be on our way with the set freshly cleaned and maybe a little more motivation to wear the aids. The gentleman then takes a mold of my grandmothers' ears and comes back in the room with a quote for an entirely new hearing aid costing upwards of $4500. The current aids she has are only three years old and cost $6000 new, we were not on the market for new aids at this time. The gentleman goes on to explain how new ones will be so much better. I then start asking for the difference in products and what information was used to warrant an entirely new set. The man proceeds to show papers documenting of the previous exam stating that these ones are "better" and will "pick up higher frequencies because her hearing is declining"... the results were exactly the same. I looked at the graphs next to each other and my grandmothers hearing hadn't changed, so stating that these are better based on her current hearing test is another false statement. The man goes on to explain that new ones would be different and help her to hear different frequencies. While this may or may not be true, he failed to show any information on how or why this would work for her, or why the "prescription", as he called it, would have changed in the last three years when her tests had the same results as before. When asked to explain again, and to see the results of the tests, we were refused. We were continuously told that it was the "right thing to do" (to sign the paper that would order a new pair for $4500) and even offered to call another family member right then and there when we tried to explain that my grandmother needed to talk to her family about such a large expense. At this point I felt like I was talking to a used car salesman and not a medical equipment salesman. Not once were we offered options, not one of my questions was thoroughly answered, not once were we even given an option to leave without signing this paper. Finally, my grandmother decided she would sign the paper so we can leave, and he told us that if we didn't want them all we had to do was call back and cancel them. The next morning, she promptly calls to cancel and were told by the Saginaw office (apparently Bay City doesn't have a phone?) that we would need to make another appointment to cancel, we can't do it over the phone. Okay. We make an appointment to cancel and head back a few hours later. Again, we sit down with this same gentleman, and again we go through the same talks about how new ones are so much better, how she needs to set up a payment plan to upgrade her aids. I ask for an explanation again about how they will be any different, no real answer. Ask why we weren't given any other option, no real answer. Ask him to educate me on why he's come to the conclusion that new aids were needed, no real answer. Finally, after over 3 cumulative hours of sitting in the office between the two appointments we cancel the new aids and leave. Overall, I am highly disappointed with this companies' sales policies. There were no options given to us. No explanations given, and I'm not convinced that particular rep even know what he was measuring in the tests he gave and then "read" to "prescribe" a new aid. This is also concerning because not all elderly people have a person that can go with them to every appointment and advocate for their health as well as their finances. My grandmother is on a fixed income, even with a payment plan, she can't afford another set of hearing aids. If I hadn't been there with her that day, she would have been bullied into buying something that we don't even know if she actually needed because we were never given an explanation for literally anything. This was an absolutely terrible experience for both myself and my grandmother. There was a climate of selling, and not helping.
