Areyouserious good. Really amazing little spot in a laneway. Artisan bakery, boulangerie, cafe, with the best food and bread.
Luckily it took a day before D1 remembered that she had found it next to a youth hostel on her last visit. Otherwise we would have eaten there every time and we would have missed out on 'Manuel' at Black Bear. D1's long black index was off the Richter.
I blew $100 on fruit and macadamia loaves, rustic "(insert Italian style bread name with herbs)", Rye and sourdough loaves, eggplant pickle, tomato kasaundi.....no, I don't know either..., lime pickle, and a fig Tarte for Keeno. For brekky GHB had his 'bacon on toast' (see Black Bear review) and I had Bangalow crispy bacon and eggs on sourdough brioche with house made chilli relish, and D1 had 'zucchini with other amazing stuff that I can't remember on some Austrian named bread' - see photo.
This is the best place in Bellingen for brekky and probably lunch, but I have to say that I didn't have the chance to check out about twenty little food places, and my friend who we stayed with (on a community owned property of course, Bellingen has its fair share of hippies) tells me that they are all pretty good. She recommended 'The Purple Carrot' but we didn't get there. Testament to a beautiful little town in a stunning location. Like Byron before it was made the plaything of the wealthy. read more
